Chapter 70: Comprehensive Upgrade
Three days later.
Yun Zhonghe arrived at the headquarters of the Sky Eagle Sect.
By the time he got there, a good number of people from the martial world had already gathered.
“Brother Yun, we parted ways at the Martial Arts Gathering, and I didn’t expect to see you again so soon.”
Following the direction of the voice, Yun Zhonghe saw Ye Kai approaching, smiling in greeting.
“Brother Ye Kai, so you’ve come as well,” Yun Zhonghe replied with a laugh.
“I’m fond of lively occasions,” Ye Kai said, “and besides, I wanted to see with my own eyes how the legendary Dragon-Slaying Saber commands the world, making all bow before its owner!”
Yun Zhonghe chuckled; he was equally curious.
The Heaven-Reliant Sword and the Dragon-Slaying Saber, those two peerless weapons, had been forged by Guo Jing and Huang Rong, who melted down Yang Guo’s Black Iron Sword, reforging it with meteorite from beyond the heavens. Within the blade and sword were hidden the Nine Yin Manual, the Eighteen Dragon Subduing Palms, and the military stratagems of the Martial General’s Legacy.
But now Guo Jing and Huang Rong were still alive, and Yang Guo had yet to become the Condor Hero, let alone obtain the Black Iron Sword.
So how could the Heaven-Reliant Sword and Dragon-Slaying Saber already exist?
Was this a bug?
As soon as the thought crossed his mind, the long-absent system suddenly reappeared. An icy electronic prompt echoed inside his mind:
[Ding, a temporal anomaly has been detected. Attempting repairs.]
Yun Zhonghe rolled his eyes—so it really was a bug!
This system was by far the most useless he had ever seen. Since his arrival in this world, it had offered only a daily sign-in function, most of the rewards gathering dust, useless and forgotten in the system’s inventory.
For anything else, it was utterly unhelpful.
Yun Zhonghe silently cursed the system, listing its countless flaws.
Just then, the system prompt sounded in his mind once more:
[Ding, host’s demand for the system has rapidly increased. System will now undergo a full-scale upgrade. Please wait patiently!]
[Estimated time: thirty-six hours.]
[Upon completion, the host will receive a generous compensation package.]
That notification nearly moved Yun Zhonghe to tears.
If only this had happened sooner, he wouldn’t have had to stumble blindly like a headless fly, crashing into walls and getting battered and bruised.
The pain was more than physical—it was truly miserable.
“Brother Yun, Brother Yun.”
Seeing Yun Zhonghe lost in thought, Ye Kai called to him softly.
“Sorry, sorry,” Yun Zhonghe apologized as he returned to himself, looking at Ye Kai with embarrassment. “I was just a little lost in my thoughts.”
As soon as he spoke, he managed to compose himself.
“No harm done,” Ye Kai replied with a dry laugh.
An awkward silence fell between them.
After a period of dull waiting, during the time it takes for an incense stick to burn, a figure in violet leapt gracefully onto the high stage.
Her voice, pure and clear as mountain spring water, rang out: “Welcome, fellow heroes of the martial world, to the Sky Eagle Sect’s Saber Presentation Ceremony.”
Ye Kai was about to remind Yun Zhonghe that the ceremony was beginning, but when he turned to look, he saw Yun Zhonghe staring fixedly at the woman on stage, not blinking once.
Gone was any trace of sleepiness.
Upon the stage, the young woman was clad in violet, her long hair flowing over her shoulders, a violet headband adorning her head.
Her features were exquisite, her delicate nose proud and straight, her brows carrying both the vigor of a man and the grace of a woman. Her cherry lips were as inviting as a ripe peach, gleaming red and luscious in the sunlight, tempting one to take a bite.
This was none other than Yin Susu, beloved daughter of Yin Tianzheng.
Unconsciously, Yun Zhonghe became utterly entranced.
Seeing Yun Zhonghe so enraptured, Ye Kai could only shake his head in silence. Could a woman truly possess such allure?
To him, no matter how beautiful, women were but painted skeletons.
If Yun Zhonghe had known Ye Kai’s thoughts, he would surely have mocked him for his inexperience. Anyone who’d tasted the joys and pains of love would never utter such words.
Just then, Yin Susu’s gaze swept over the assembled heroes, and she called out, “Bring forth the Dragon-Slaying Saber!”
At her command, two burly men carried a stone pedestal draped in red cloth onto the stage.
Yun Zhonghe’s eyes burned with anticipation, as if he could pierce through the cloth and behold the fabled blade beneath.
After placing the pedestal, the two men withdrew.
Yin Susu circled the pedestal gracefully, extending a slender hand to caress the blade beneath the cloth.
This sight stoked the fervor in the eyes of all present.
A legendary weapon and a breathtaking beauty—both the ultimate pursuits of any man.
Seeing that the moment was right, Yin Susu flashed a devastating smile at the crowd, her slender fingers gripping the red cloth and whisking it away.
The cloth drifted to the ground, but everyone’s gaze was fixed above, moving to the object revealed.
A saber, entirely golden, appeared before their eyes.
It was about three feet long, its blade inscribed with mysterious runes. Even from a distance, one could feel the fierce, domineering aura it exuded.
“So this is the Dragon-Slaying Saber of legend—the blade that grants its wielder dominion over the martial world!”
“Truly an unparalleled treasure, unmatched throughout the ages!”
“I wonder what secrets are hidden within?”
Ye Kai’s eyes gleamed with wonder.
He glanced at Yun Zhonghe, wanting to discuss the saber’s mysteries, only to find his companion’s attention still wholly fixed on Yin Susu, as if the peerless weapon before them could not interest him in the least.
Ye Kai wisely refrained from interrupting, instead scrutinizing every detail of the saber, hoping to glean some secret.
As the crowd’s excitement mounted, Yin Susu sensed something amiss. Glancing down, she discovered that Yun Zhonghe’s predatory gaze had been fixed on her the entire time.
His eyes were brazen and invasive; under his stare, she felt as though she’d been stripped bare.
Discomfort and anger welled up, a frosty chill settling over her features. She longed to storm from the stage and gouge out Yun Zhonghe’s eyes.
But she quickly reconsidered—killing him in front of everyone would only cause unnecessary complications.
It wasn’t worth disrupting her plans for the sake of this lecher.
With that decision, Yin Susu shifted her focus to the Dragon-Slaying Saber at her side.
“Ha!”
With a crisp shout, she gripped the hilt, channeling her inner force, fingers tightening around the handle.
Under countless watchful eyes, she raised the saber high overhead.
Then, before the crowd, she began to demonstrate a saber routine.
Whether it’s a beauty wielding a blade or a fan, the sight is always pleasing—soon, all gazes were drawn to her performance.
Sensing the time was right, a cold glint flashed in Yin Susu’s eyes.
Her foot stomped the ground, her graceful figure spinning rapidly with the momentum.
“Bravo!” someone in the audience couldn’t help but cheer.
But before anyone else could react, Yin Susu, having gathered enough force, swung the Dragon-Slaying Saber down toward the crowd below.
