Hehe.

The other party smiled at him, then responded with lively excitement, “From the moment I first laid eyes on you, I have buried you deep within my heart. Today, with ancient trees as our companions and the white mist as our matchmaker, beneath this beautiful scene, shall we confess our feelings to each other?”

Heh.

Bai Mu grinned slyly, simply turning the tables with a counter-question, “Actually, I’ve been enchanted by you for a long time as well. Since our feelings are mutual, shouldn’t we next...”

At this, Bai Mu suddenly paused, his face breaking into a mischievous smile as he fixed his gaze on the petite figure before him, making it look as though he were about to lay his hands on her at any moment.

The false Ling Yan, seeing his eagerness, felt a surge of delight inside. Staring at the fair-skinned youth before her, she thought gleefully that today she would again feast on a rich meal of his vital essence, which would surely greatly enhance her cultivation.

What a pity, she mused, that such a handsome face would soon become nothing more than a short-lived ghost—truly a waste.

After weighing her options, the fake Ling Yan boldly stepped up to Bai Mu, her body as delicate as a willow in the wind, and fell into his arms, ready to entangle herself with him.

Yet, both harbored secret intentions.

Bai Mu, of course, had long seen through this little demoness’s ruse; he delayed exposing her only to wait until she was within reach, so he could capture her with lightning speed.

The false Ling Yan, once nestled in Bai Mu’s arms, breathed in his masculine scent and suddenly felt her senses reel, swayed by a reckless impulse.

But quickly regaining her composure, she glanced at him from the corner of her eye. Seeing no movement, she stealthily conjured two sharp white fangs in her mouth and slowly moved toward Bai Mu’s neck.

By now, Bai Mu was also ready, only waiting for her to let down her guard completely before subduing her with a powerful hand seal.

Just as both were pretending affection while concealing their true motives, a sharp, feminine voice rang out from the mist ahead: “Brazen demon! How dare you impersonate me? You have no shame!”

As soon as the words faded, Ling Yan’s figure, clad in flowing green gauze, drifted out of the white mist and shot toward the impostor’s back with incredible speed.

At that moment, the fake Ling Yan’s sharp fangs had already reached Bai Mu’s neck—just another second or two, and she would have drained his essence to fuel her cultivation.

But at this critical juncture, an unexpected intervention forced her to abandon Bai Mu and attempt a hasty escape.

Yet, just as she moved, she felt a tremendous force strike her abdomen, laced with threads of biting sword energy—cold and chilling.

She hurriedly glanced up and locked eyes with Bai Mu, whose gaze was filled with amusement.

Realizing she had fallen into his trap, she began to tremble all over in fright.

Nevertheless, even in her panic, the impostor summoned all her strength to break free from Bai Mu’s grip and darted backward in a desperate bid to escape.

Boom—

A thunderous crash sounded from the white mist ahead. In a flash of green, the real Ling Yan struck the impostor from behind, sending her crashing to the ground just a meter in front of Bai Mu, where she howled in pain, unable even to stand.

Clearly, Ling Yan’s blow was fueled by anger, using at least half her power—how could a low-level demon possibly withstand such force?

Especially since someone had dared to impersonate her to seduce Bai Mu; she was already seething with rage and struck without mercy.

Uhn...

After being knocked to the ground, the impostor let out a pained groan. Under their watchful eyes, her form gradually shrank until she finally transformed into a creature somewhat resembling a rabbit.

Though it had soft, white fur and a rather adorable form, the pair of sharp fangs in its mouth were utterly unlike a rabbit’s. Such gentle creatures could never possess such thin, lethal fangs.

“What kind of strange beast is this?” Bai Mu muttered in confusion, staring at the creature on the ground.

“That is a Deceiver Beast,” Ling Yan replied nonchalantly, glancing at the creature as the corners of her mouth turned up in a faint smile. “Deceiver Beasts are ancient and mysterious creatures, exceptionally cunning by nature. They love nothing more than lying and often disguise themselves as humans to deceive others, then feed on their essence and souls to cultivate.”

“So that’s it!” Bai Mu looked at Ling Yan with a meaningful gaze, his cheeks flushing as he smiled. “No wonder she looked exactly like you. If not for her strange behavior, I might have been completely fooled...”

“What did she say to you?” Ling Yan asked with keen interest, a blush quickly rising to her cheeks. Clearly, she might have overheard their earlier conversation, but her maidenly modesty kept her from admitting it.

“N-nothing,” Bai Mu replied hastily, trying to brush it off. He quickly changed the subject, staring at the Deceiver Beast on the ground and asking curiously, “So what should we do with this harmful thing?”

“No need to do anything,” Ling Yan replied with a disappointed shake of her head and a wry smile. “This Deceiver Beast’s cultivation is weak. After I struck its spirit acupoint, its powers have been utterly destroyed. Let it fend for itself in this haunted forest.”

Finishing her words, she stole a resentful glance at Bai Mu, inwardly blaming him for being too honest—how could he not seize such a critical moment to confess his feelings?

“By the way, where did you go just now?” Bai Mu asked awkwardly, lowering his head. “Why did you disappear in the blink of an eye?”

“Oh...” Ling Yan hesitated for a moment, then replied cautiously, “Just now, I heard some movement to the west of the forest, so I went to investigate. There was indeed something suspicious there.”

“I was worried you might run into danger alone, so I hurried back to find you. I never expected you would actually get into trouble—and the romantic kind, no less!”

When she mentioned “romantic encounter,” Ling Yan emphasized the words, clearly teasing him.

Although Bai Mu was unusually clever in most matters, he was completely inexperienced when it came to matters of the heart. With Ling Yan’s gentle mockery, he stood frozen, unsure what to do.

Knowing that Bai Mu was rather shy, Ling Yan didn’t press the issue of the Deceiver Beast’s ploy. Instead, she quickly composed herself, cleared her throat, and then said solemnly, “Bai Mu, we may be in for some trouble.”

“What kind of trouble?” Bai Mu asked curiously, lifting his head while casting his eyes warily around the eerie misty forest. The place already put him on edge.
