Chapter 100: I Urge You to Be Kind (Third Watch)

Fang Xu, seated inside Shangguan Lian’s carriage, felt thoroughly miserable.
If the carriage’s exterior already gave off an unmistakably girlish impression, then its interior revealed even more clearly what sort of person Shangguan Lian truly was.
When Fang Xu finally came to his senses, he stared in astonishment at the weapons hanging everywhere inside the carriage.
The carriage contained practically every one of the eighteen traditional weapons.
For a moment, Fang Xu even wondered whether he was really inside a carriage—or had somehow wandered into a martial arts training ground.
Shangguan Lian, meanwhile, gazed at him expectantly and began introducing the weapons one by one of her own accord. But after learning her “true nature,” Fang Xu could not help worrying that she might suddenly start swearing the next second.
And the way Shangguan Lian introduced those weapons was truly extraordinary.
Fang Xu had worked in sales in his previous life, so he knew a great deal about presenting things to others.
Yet, to him, Shangguan Lian’s introductions sounded less like explanations and more like threats—along with a fair amount of flaunting.
Why?
Because every time she opened her mouth, she began by explaining how many people each weapon had killed. If Fang Xu had not stopped her again and again, she might even have started demonstrating them inside that cramped carriage.
Fang Xu genuinely regretted it.
Why had he not boarded Zhuge Jun’s carriage immediately? At the very least, he would not have ended up in this situation, would he?
But once you had dug your own grave, you had to lie in it—even if you had to cry while doing so.
Fang Xu could only weep inwardly as he watched Shangguan Lian continue her introductions. He truly could not understand why she had collected all these things.
Outside the carriage, she looked like such a delicate young lady. Inside, however, she was nothing short of a rugged brute.
“Master Fang, why are you sweating so profusely?” Shangguan Lian asked curiously, looking at his sweat-covered face.
“Well... perhaps it’s a little too hot in here...” Fang Xu said, swallowing nervously.
Shangguan Lian touched her forehead, yet she did not feel hot at all.

“But why don’t I feel hot in the slightest?” Shangguan Lian asked as she leaned closer to Fang Xu.
The corner of Fang Xu’s mouth twitched uncontrollably.
“Miss Lian... I’m not hot anymore. Could you put away that meteor hammer?” Fang Xu pointed toward the weapon hanging above his head.
The spiked meteor hammer was only a few millimeters away from him.
Fang Xu could even feel the sharp points of its flail brushing against the air above him. Only after hearing his words did Shangguan Lian finally realize what she was doing.
“My apologies, Master Fang. I was simply too happy! You are only the third person ever willing to enter my carriage!” Shangguan Lian said with a smile.
Fang Xu, however, felt that there was something rather strange about that statement.
“May I ask what happened to the first two?”
Fang Xu did not know why he had suddenly asked. Besides, as far as he was concerned, he had not exactly entered willingly.
“The first two? Unfortunately, they’re already dead,” Shangguan Lian said with a sigh.
Fang Xu instantly felt as though he had fallen into an icy abyss. His entire body began to tremble.
“Ahem. May I ask how they died?” he asked, forcing down his unease.
“It would be better if Master Fang did not know. Otherwise...” Shangguan Lian let the sentence trail off, leaving Fang Xu with an ominous feeling.
“Otherwise... what?” Fang Xu swallowed instinctively and could not help asking.
People were like that. The more frightening something was, the more desperately they wanted to know the truth. Otherwise, they would spend all day imagining the worst, which was even more damaging to their peace of mind.
“Pfft!”
Shangguan Lian turned away and burst out laughing. Fang Xu stared at her in confusion.
“Hahahaha! Did you really believe me, Master Fang? That was absolutely hilarious!”
Covering her stomach, Shangguan Lian laughed until tears gathered in the corners of her eyes. Fang Xu’s face, meanwhile, had turned livid.
“Miss Shangguan! That was not funny at all!” Fang Xu said sternly. He made no effort to be polite merely because of her status.
“All right, all right. I won’t tease you anymore. We’re almost there.” Shangguan Lian wiped the tears from the corners of her eyes and took a breath before speaking.
Fang Xu felt as though he were about to lose his mind.
If he had not needed the Shangguan family’s assistance, he truly would have liked to teach Shangguan Lian a proper lesson.
“From the look on your face, you seem like you want to beat me up. Do you dare?” Shangguan Lian sat beside him and asked with a smile.
“Miss Shangguan, I advise you to show some mercy,” Fang Xu said in a low voice.
He did not even bother glancing at her, which made Shangguan Lian puff out her cheeks in displeasure.

“Hey! Hey! Are you really angry? Aren’t you being a little too petty?” Shangguan Lian tugged at Fang Xu’s sleeve, but he could not be bothered to respond.
It was not that Fang Xu was angry.
He simply had no idea what Shangguan Lian was planning.
More importantly, he needed to think about what was going to happen once they arrived. What sort of situation would they soon find themselves in?
Before he could finish thinking, however, Shangguan Lian had somehow already appeared directly in front of him.
“Miss Shangguan...” Fang Xu began, but before he could finish, he no longer knew what to say.
Why?
Because Shangguan Lian had suddenly pushed him down onto the seat. Fang Xu stared at her in a panic as she straddled him.
Why did this scene feel so familiar?
Looking at Shangguan Lian above him, Fang Xu could not help thinking.
Then he suddenly remembered Qin Suwen. When he had first met Qin Suwen, had they not been in almost exactly the same position?
Was he really just destined to be the one pinned down?
Fang Xu could not help giving a bitter laugh. Shangguan Lian, seated on top of him, immediately looked displeased.
“Hey! What are you laughing at?” she asked curiously, reaching out with a pale finger to poke his cheek.
“Shouldn’t I be asking what you intend to do, Miss Shangguan? Could it be that you have taken a fancy to my handsome appearance?” Fang Xu said with a bitter smile.
“Good grief, you really are shameless!”
Although she spoke disdainfully, Shangguan Lian’s face flushed despite herself.
“If that isn’t it, then I’m genuinely curious. What exactly are you planning to do, Miss Shangguan?” Fang Xu shrugged indifferently.
He truly had no idea what Shangguan Lian was trying to do.
