Chapter 78: Is Our Relationship Something That Can Be Revealed to Others?!
Lin Feng couldn’t be bothered to speak with her any further. He strode directly to the sofa and sat down, assuming the posture of a master at ease.
Seeing his casual movements, Chu Lingshuang arched her brow slightly but said nothing.
Half-reclining against the sofa cushion, Lin Feng spoke coldly, “When do we enter? When does it end?”
That was the only thing he cared about.
The sooner this unpleasant ordeal ended, the better. He’d had enough.
“Seven o’clock,” Chu Lingshuang’s lips curled into a slight smile, but then her tone shifted abruptly. “As for when it ends, I have no idea.”
Banquets were always like this—so long as the host wished, the festivities could last until dawn!
Lin Feng understood that well enough, but—
“What’s your problem? The banquet starts at seven, so why drag me here so early? It’s not even six yet!”
He grumbled; the earlier he arrived, the longer he’d be forced to be alone with Chu Lingshuang. If he could, he’d arrive at the last minute!
Chu Lingshuang was unhurried, watching Lin Feng with that mischievous smile still lingering on her lips.
“With an hour, there’s plenty we could do...”
She spoke as she slowly placed her legs onto the plush carpet.
Her gaze was flirtatious and fixed on Lin Feng, her fingers beckoning him with a slight motion in the air.
“Come over here.”
She commanded him.
He was already seated on the sofa to her left—not far, but she wanted him closer?
Though this was a private room, it was still within the main banquet hall. Had two days apart truly made her so desperate?
Seeing the hungry mix of desire in her eyes, Lin Feng felt nothing but disdain.
“Miss Chu, surely you aren’t so famished?”
He spoke bluntly, almost mocking—he’d been forced to come, so he had no reason to be polite.
Yet Chu Lingshuang showed no anger, only a playful, teasing look. “Aren’t you supposed to be some great saint? Then—”
She suddenly stood up. As her high heels clicked slowly forward, the diamonds on her dress shimmered dazzlingly.
It was almost blinding...
That was Lin Feng’s direct impression. He squinted as Chu Lingshuang drew closer, step by step.
He knew that, being in the banquet hall, he could shout and people would rush in; no matter how unhinged she acted, she wouldn’t dare torment him here.
So he slumped on the sofa, unmoving.
Chu Lingshuang approached, finally standing before him.
She bent low; the expensive emerald necklace around her neck swayed in the air, back and forth, and then lower...
No!
Lin Feng drew in a sharp breath, turning his head away and forcing himself not to look down—he’d suffered for it last time.
Noticing his small gesture, Chu Lingshuang’s smile deepened. She leaned in closer, her lips near his ear as he turned his head.
She whispered, “Seeing me like this, shouldn’t a saint like you be content with humble fare and hunger?”
Her breath, warm against his ear as she spoke, sent a tremor through Lin Feng’s heart.
His body betrayed him, but his hatred burned even brighter.
Lin Feng’s voice was hoarse, his laughter cold. “Miss Chu, are you seeing things? These days, where would I find you a bowl of humble fare?”
Apparently pleased with his reaction, Chu Lingshuang mischievously blew softly against his ear, her teasing voice sounding again.
“Is there a need to look for it?”
Her eyes held a hint of curiosity, and she brazenly pressed one knee onto the sofa cushion, the meaning clear: “Don’t you always carry it with you?”
Lin Feng immediately understood her metaphor.
What was with this woman? Like a ravenous wolf, never satisfied!
He bit his lip, the pain jolting him awake.
He leaned back, adopting a completely indifferent posture, refusing to look at Chu Lingshuang.
“Then you can starve. I’m not in the mood now.”
The first half was innocuous, and Chu Lingshuang hadn’t truly intended to start anything here, but the second half was grating.
Unless she was unwilling.
How could he have the right to say no?
She lifted her hand, gripping his chin, forcing him to turn his face toward her, her fingers stroking his cheek.
The sensation was pleasing.
She licked her lips with satisfaction. “Looks like you still haven’t learned, after all this time.”
The roles were reversed now!
How could Lin Feng, who would soon be free, endure such humiliation?
He slapped her arm away, stood up, adjusted his trousers, and moved to the other end of the sofa.
Seeing his actions, Chu Lingshuang’s smile reached her eyes. She didn’t press the issue; instead, she sat where Lin Feng had just been.
Surprised that she didn’t trouble him further, Lin Feng relaxed and changed the topic. “Who’s the guest of honor at this banquet?”
He hadn’t betrayed Liu Tianhan, but he wanted to see if Chu Lingshuang would tell him the truth.
Very quickly, Chu Lingshuang replied, “Gu Wenxuan.”
“Is it the Gu family, one of the Four Great Families?”
Lin Feng feigned shock at the news, then asked with some confusion, “Does the Chu family really need to attend such a banquet?”
At this, a shadow flickered in Chu Lingshuang’s eyes.
She picked up the delicate teapot in front of her, poured herself a cup of water, and sipped it before speaking slowly, “It was arranged by my mother.”
“Your mother?!”
Lin Feng was stunned, staring at Chu Lingshuang in disbelief.
He could hardly believe his ears—this wild woman actually obeyed her family?
It was truly rare!
Perhaps seeing through Lin Feng’s doubts, Chu Lingshuang replied languidly, “She arranged a matchmaking meeting between me and Gu Wenxuan.”
She spoke as if it were someone else’s business, though her eyes remained fixed on Lin Feng, clearly eager to see his reaction.
Now it was Lin Feng’s turn to be incredulous!
So, this banquet, supposedly Gu Wenxuan’s birthday, was really just a pretext—the real purpose was to arrange a matchmaking for Miss Chu?
But that couldn’t be right!
How could the Chu family be interested in a small Gu family?
Lin Feng stared hard at Chu Lingshuang, and recalling her wild treatment of him, he suddenly understood.
Perhaps her parents also knew their daughter was so unhinged she’d never marry otherwise?
Only someone from the Four Great Families could meet the Chu family’s standards in the capital...
Thinking of this, Lin Feng’s mouth twitched. Every family had its own troubles!
But another question followed.
“Wait, this is your matchmaking banquet—why did you bring me here?”
Lin Feng spoke bluntly.
Come on! Their relationship was hardly fit for public display!
It would be one thing to keep it hidden, but now she’d not only brought him to her matchmaking banquet, she’d brought only him.
Could it be she intended to announce all their messy dealings at the banquet?
And she’d talked about letting him go afterward!
Wasn’t that just another form of control?
