Chapter 7: We Have to Wait for Her to Come Back Just to Eat?!
How could it not hurt? Lin Feng felt as if his molars were about to shatter from clenching his teeth, but was now really the time to talk about such things?
After the sharp sting passed, all that remained was to apply medicine and bandage the wound.
He had already endured the worst of the pain; everything after that could be ignored.
Watching her busily tending to his injuries, Lin Feng moved his lips and finally chose to ask, “Can you help me leave this place?”
Yu Xueyan’s hands paused in surprise. “You want to leave?”
“Yes!”
Finally, someone was willing to speak with him—Lin Feng’s extinguished hope flared anew!
He spoke urgently, “I don’t want to stay here. If you can help me get out, I’ll repay you with everything I have.”
He no longer naively expected strangers to help him out of kindness; he was negotiating now.
He would trade whatever value he had left for a way out.
Yet Yu Xueyan only let out a laugh at his words, “Your abilities? Don’t be ridiculous. Do you really think your abilities surpass those of my lady?”
Lin Feng fell silent.
Indeed, he had nothing now—how could he compare to the illustrious Miss Chu of a noble family?
Seeing his silence, Yu Xueyan countered, “Why are you so desperate to leave? Do you know how many men outside dream of what you have now?”
She spoke as she picked up the gauze, wrapping it as she continued, “If I were you, I’d just do as Miss says. Forgive my bluntness, but I’ve never seen her bring a man home before. Do you know how lucky you are?”
“Lucky?!”
Lin Feng couldn’t take it anymore. Was being chosen by Miss Chu really supposed to be luck?
That kind of luck was something he didn’t care for!
“I’m just an ordinary man. I only want a simple, ordinary life. I have no interest in getting involved with her at all!”
Yu Xueyan seemed to hear the most absurd joke in the world; her hands trembled as she wrapped the gauze. “Do you know, with a wave of my lady’s hand, all of Jing City would tremble? Such splendor and wealth, and you don’t want it?!”
Ever since she had started following Miss Chu, she’d always wondered what kind of man would ever be worthy of someone as extraordinary—and as beautiful—as her lady.
A few days ago, when she learned that Miss Chu had brought a man home, she’d been in shock ever since.
After meeting him, she found this man was indeed quite handsome, his build impressive, but that alone hardly seemed enough.
And now, this man looked completely at a loss, constantly shouting about leaving...
Was there something wrong with his head?
“I’m not interested in money!” Lin Feng, at the end of his patience, emphasized. No amount of wealth could bring him peace of mind; all he wanted was a stable place to live, a home of his own, freed from all restrictions, to live his life as he wished and do whatever he wanted.
Yu Xueyan stared at him as if he were a fool, tearing off the gauze and securing it with medical tape.
Probably, he’d never seen such a lavish place before.
Well, he had said he was just an ordinary man—suddenly being thrust into such a world, it was normal to feel out of place.
Some people were like that, pride making them uncomfortable.
As a doctor, Yu Xueyan had studied a bit of psychology; she knew that once he got used to this, he’d start to enjoy it, even become addicted, and eventually beg Miss Chu to let him stay.
She didn’t think much more of it. She packed up her medical kit and stood up to leave.
Seeing her about to go, Lin Feng panicked. Even if she wouldn’t help him escape, she could at least undo the iron chain, couldn’t she? Was he supposed to spend the whole night on the sofa?
“Wait, help me take this off!” he called, waving his chained wrist.
Yu Xueyan picked up the medical kit and replied indifferently, “Miss only asked me to treat your wounds, not to free you.”
With that, she left without a backward glance.
“Hey! Hey, hey, hey!!” Lin Feng struggled and shouted after her, his voice causing his Adam’s apple to scrape against his wound. Once the numbness wore off, the pain made him bare his teeth.
When he saw her disappear around the stairwell, Lin Feng lost all hope.
He stared at the opulent ceiling, not even bothering to struggle anymore.
Chu Lingshuang didn’t return, and Lin Feng lay on the sofa until the middle of the night before finally falling asleep...
When he woke again, he saw two servants unfastening the iron chain from his wrist.
He tried asking them a few questions, but they ignored him completely, as if they were mute.
At that moment, Lin Feng finally accepted reality.
Without Chu Lingshuang’s permission, he really couldn’t leave.
Well, then, he would just wait until she grew bored.
He’d already waited fifteen years—what were a few more days?
He figured Chu Lingshuang’s interest in him was only temporary. When her curiosity faded, it would be over. He warned himself not to try reasoning with her anymore; she was, after all, a complete lunatic.
Finally freed, he rubbed his wrist where the chain had left its mark. After the servants left, he rushed to the bathroom.
Once he’d relieved himself, he stared at his reflection in the mirror.
In just a few days, his complexion had grown alarmingly pale. After enduring hunger for so long, the sudden gluttony had made him vomit. The persistent pain in his neck only made things worse.
Forget it—if he couldn’t fight, he’d just avoid it.
He had nowhere else to go anyway; he might as well be a corpse here for now and focus on recovering.
His stomach felt queasy; he couldn’t bring himself to eat the lavish meals.
He wanted some porridge.
Feeling his way downstairs, he saw Madam Wang and others cleaning the dining table.
Catching sight of the gauze around his neck, Madam Wang’s eyes flickered with surprise, but she said nothing and greeted him with a smile, “Good morning, sir.”
Lin Feng said nothing. He noticed there were far more people in the living room today, at least seven or eight, all in uniform, bustling about as if preparing for an important banquet.
None of that mattered to him. He asked, “Is there any porridge?”
“Porridge?” Madam Wang hesitated, then smiled. “Yes, but you’ll have to wait until Miss returns before you can eat.”
Was she insane?
He had to wait for her just to eat?
Anger flared across Lin Feng’s face as he retorted, “So if she doesn’t come back, am I supposed to starve to death?”
“Of course not!” Madam Wang waved her hand with a laugh. “The meal is already prepared. Miss will be back in an hour. Please wait on the sofa for a while.”
With that, she went off to attend to her duties.
Lin Feng was so angry his lips twitched. What nonsense—compromise? He refused to compromise!
He had to wait for her to eat? If she didn’t return, he’d have to go hungry? What kind of ridiculous rule was this?
This was already interfering with his basic life!
Speechless with rage, Lin Feng saw the dining room door was locked—he couldn’t get in at all.
Fuming, he sat on the sofa and shouted up at the ceiling, “I want some water!”
