Chapter 59: Her Virtuous Son-in-law Is Truly Capable!
“Lin Feng?!” Fang Ziyue cried out in shock.
Jiang Yahui quickly chimed in, “That’s right! Weren’t you getting along so well with Xiaofeng?”
She stepped forward, took Fang Ziyue’s arm, and whispered conspiratorially, “Given our family’s situation, you should talk to him too. When the time comes, I’ll play the villain and ask him for a larger bride price!”
Fang Ziyue’s eyes widened, and the image of Lin Feng being intimate with that masked beauty flashed through her mind.
Her eyes filled with grievance.
“Mom, you don’t understand! Lin Feng already broke up with me. He moved on instantly—he had someone else all along!”
“What did you say?! Instantly moved on?! ...”
Jiang Yahui stared in disbelief.
“Exactly! That shameless couple made it look like I was the other woman. How could you still want me to go find him!”
Fang Ziyue was nearly beside herself with anger. The way they’d humiliated her in a public place like the convenience store—how could she not feel wronged?
Jiang Yahui was about to speak, but her precious daughter ran off to her bedroom in tears. In an instant, Jiang Yahui’s anger flared.
“That Lin Feng always seemed like such a good kid, but to do something like this!” Jiang Yahui turned to look at Fang Jiancheng, who was crouched by the door smoking.
She marched over, snatched the cigarette from his hand, and crushed it on the floor.
“Really, old man? Our daughter has suffered so much, and you can still think about smoking?!”
Seeing his last Huazi cigarette thrown away, Fang Jiancheng picked up the stub, blew on it, and retorted angrily, “How is my smoking bothering you?!”
Jiang Yahui, already upset over losing her job, was now fuming.
She slapped Fang Jiancheng on the back, grumbling, “Do you even act like a father? Our daughter’s been made out to be the other woman, and you’re still making snide remarks!”
“Enough, enough!” Fang Jiancheng took a deep drag, his expression turning grim. “Is now really the time to worry about whether our daughter’s the other woman? Neither of us has gotten paid this month. I’ve only three thousand left—how are we supposed to pay the mortgage?”
His words doused Jiang Yahui’s fury like a bucket of cold water.
“We’ll ask Lin Feng!” she muttered through gritted teeth. “He dated our daughter for so long, and now he’s cheated—he owes us some compensation!”
“I agree.”
Fang Jiancheng nodded, unwilling to part with his cigarette butt.
“Even though that kid got fired from the Xu family, a lean camel is still bigger than a horse. He must still have money,” Fang Jiancheng mused, squinting thoughtfully.
“But where do we find him?”
“Let’s ask Hao first. If that doesn’t work, I’ll go myself!” Fang Jiancheng said, pulling out his phone.
The call had barely connected when Jiang Yahui heard her husband exclaim.
“What?! You saw Lin Feng driving a Rolls-Royce?!”
Jiang Yahui rushed over and shouted into the phone, “Son, are you serious? He can still drive a Rolls-Royce?!”
“It’s true! I didn’t find him at the convenience store, though—no idea where he went,” Fang Minghao’s voice answered from the other end.
Jiang Yahui snatched the phone. “Son, get your friends to help! Find your brother-in-law, just tell him we’re inviting him for dinner!”
She hung up and turned to her husband, excitement alight in her eyes. “Hurry, you go look too! I’ll contact my colleagues!”
Fang Jiancheng was just as thrilled. A Rolls-Royce! Would someone like that lack cigarettes?
“I’m on it!” He nodded, took his phone to the dining room, and lit his last cigarette, tossing the empty pack without hesitation.
Jiang Yahui was nearly overjoyed. She hadn’t misjudged—her son-in-law was truly capable!
What did it matter if her daughter was the other woman?
As long as Lin Feng made the call, she’d even take her daughter to serve the main wife during her postpartum confinement!
...
“Hello, I’m Qian Yipin. You must be the newcomer Chairman Cao mentioned?” In the Haishi Cao Pin Fresh Foods Processing Plant, a bespectacled man in a black suit greeted Lin Feng with a smile.
“Yes.” Lin Feng nodded, smiling. “Wherever you need an extra hand, I can start right away.”
“No, no, no!” Qian Yipin quickly waved his hands. As if! This was someone Chairman Cao had sent personally; there was no way he’d really put him on the assembly line!
“We do need a deputy manager in the packaging division. I’ll arrange for you to go there,” Qian Yipin said, pulling out his phone to make arrangements.
Lin Feng quickly shook his head. “No, no, I’m fine with working on the line.”
Qian Yipin paused, looking at him in surprise. “You want to work the line?”
“Yeah, I probably won’t be here long…” Lin Feng nodded. He had no idea if Chu Lingshuang would make trouble for him. More importantly, she’d given him three days—if she really shut down Nuannuan Convenience Store after that, he’d have to go back for sure.
Qian Yipin eyed Lin Feng up and down, his lips twitching. This had to be Chairman Cao’s friend coming to experience life.
Even if Lin Feng insisted, he couldn’t really put him on the line—what if he exhausted the chairman’s friend? He’d lose his job!
“How about this,” he offered, “you’ve got the looks, and we’re about to run a promotional livestream in one of our areas. Why not go there?”
A livestream?
Lin Feng’s eyes lit up at once. The fact that he was in Haishi was something Chu Lingshuang could find out with a snap of her fingers, but he was worried she wouldn’t investigate him in these three days and would just wait for him at the villa. If he appeared on a livestream, and she saw him working here, maybe she’d stop targeting the convenience store.
This was a great idea!
Lin Feng nodded eagerly. “Sure, no problem!”
Finally relieved, Qian Yipin took Lin Feng to his post.
From a distance, Lin Feng saw a blond youth lounging lazily on a rocking chair by the conveyor belt.
Lin Feng almost laughed—so there were easy jobs on the assembly line after all?
When Qian Yipin arrived, the blond youth quickly jumped up. “Manager Qian, what brings you here?”
Qian Yipin shot him a glance and barked, “Zhou, you’re on the production line now.”
“What?!” Zhou Tian was stunned. “But Manager Qian, aren’t I the most telegenic in the factory?!”
He glanced at Lin Feng, and instantly fell silent.
“That’s enough, get to work and don’t get in the way!” Qian Yipin pulled the chair aside and turned to Lin Feng with a bright smile. “Here, this is your spot. The livestream will start when the shift begins—just face the camera.”
“Don’t I have to work?” Lin Feng was surprised.
“Of course you do!” Qian Yipin handed him a handful of straws. “Here, put these in the snack boxes.”
