Chapter 47: Is the Young Lady Going to Walk Over?!
"Hey? Weren't you a security guard for Yihan Group? How come you're working as a cashier here now?"
Early the next morning, Xu Zhiqing looked at Li Hao behind the cashier counter with surprise.
Li Hao, who was busy scanning goods, looked up and froze when he saw the beautiful woman in front of him. Wasn't this the sister of the guy his friend had beaten up last time?
Xu Zhiqing, still startled, quickly asked, "Is your company planning to open a chain of supermarkets? Why are you working here?"
Even though he had been fired, thinking about her brother peeping at girls changing clothes made Li Hao feel disgusted. As the old saying goes, birds of a feather flock together. Even though she was a beauty, his attitude was far from friendly.
"Three hundred and fifty-eight yuan. Cash or card?"
Xu Zhiqing was clearly stunned. Other than Lin Feng, this was the first time someone had treated her so coldly! Considering she was the president of the Xu family and he was only a cashier, what was he so arrogant about? And in front of so many people! Wasn't he deliberately embarrassing her?
Her expression darkened instantly. But remembering the joint venture between Yihan Group and this convenience store, and that even their employees were coming over to work here, plus her father's instructions to maintain a good relationship with Yihan Group, Xu Zhiqing decided to endure it.
"I'll become a member," she said, pulling out her phone to pay, her gaze wandering around the store.
A crowd was still bustling beside the shelves. Li Hao moved quickly, scanning her code and deftly pushing her things aside, asking, "Your phone number?"
Xu Zhiqing was taken aback but quickly recited her number.
As Li Hao was registering her information, Xu Zhiqing couldn't help but ask, "Is Lin Feng still with the company?"
She was still upset. Xiao Jie was still in the hospital, her parents had been taking turns staying up all night to look after him, and yet she hadn't heard any news of Lin Feng being fired from Yihan Group. The thought was a constant thorn in her heart.
Li Hao glanced at her and immediately realized she was probably here to cause trouble for Lin Feng. In his hurry, he blurted out, "Don't bother, he's not here!"
Wasn't that just admitting he was there?
Xu Zhiqing instantly picked up on his meaning and tried to ask more, but someone behind her gave her a nudge. "It's my turn to pay, miss, please step aside!"
The store was packed, the checkout line stretched all the way outside. Xu Zhiqing waited for a while but couldn't find another chance to talk. Still, from Li Hao's words, she guessed that Lin Feng was indeed at this convenience store.
She pondered this as she picked up her things and headed out. He couldn't run far; if she didn't catch him today, she could always come back in the evening when things were quieter.
The matter of Xiao Jie being hurt wasn't over yet. Though he had a kind heart and had been speaking up for Lin Feng since waking up, she still wanted Lin Feng to apologize to Xiao Jie in person!
Business at the shop was booming. Li Hao was so busy he didn't even have time to eat until after one in the afternoon, when things finally slowed down a bit.
Now, Lin Feng, Zhang Xiuhua, and Li Hao took turns managing the store. Zhang Xiuhua had already prepared a large pot of food and warmly called Li Hao to eat while she took over his shift.
In the back storeroom, Li Hao wiped the sweat from his brow and grumbled as he saw Lin Feng eating shirtless. "Hey, brother, you sure are relaxed. Do you know that the sister of the guy you beat up last time came looking for you?"
Lin Feng paused, chopsticks mid-air. "Xu Zhiqing was here?"
"Must've been her. I don't know her name, but she looked like she came specifically for you." Li Hao scratched his head, scooped some meat from the pot, and added, "But don't worry, I didn't sell you out—I told her you weren't here. She just signed up for a membership and left."
At that, Lin Feng's mouth twitched. Not selling him out? Who would believe that?
But Lin Feng didn't blame Li Hao. After all, with Yihan Group's reputation, and so many customers, it was only a matter of time before Xu Zhiqing came looking.
Hadn't the Xu family just secured a contract with Yihan Group? To maintain appearances, they still had to send someone over.
Meeting Xu Zhiqing was inevitable.
Lin Feng’s eyes darkened, but he said nothing more, simply ladling some meat into Li Hao's bowl. "Thanks for your hard work. Eat up."
"Much appreciated!"
...
"Xiao Hao, are you sure it's this convenience store?!"
Near the university town, in a modest district, Fang Minghao was driving a second-hand Santana with Fang Ziyue beside him, struggling through the crowded, narrow streets.
"Yeah! I saw it last time. Brother-in-law works at this store!" Fang Minghao was excited, frequently glancing at Fang Ziyue. "Sis, you have to talk to him properly this time—my bride price is all depending on you!"
Fang Ziyue shot him a look, replying sharply, "I know."
If she could win over Lin Feng, that Rolls-Royce alone was worth a hundred million. Not only would her brother’s bride price be covered, she could also afford an apartment in the capital. She herself would transform into a wealthy lady overnight—a dream she’d harbored since childhood.
After all, her good looks shouldn’t go to waste.
Lin Feng probably still held a grudge, but three years of feelings couldn’t just vanish overnight. She figured this was his way of testing her. As long as she was sincere and admitted her mistakes, he’d surely forgive her.
Love was complicated; she’d only been a little too harsh with her words—it wasn’t unforgivable.
The more Fang Ziyue thought about it, the more relaxed she became, even urging Fang Minghao to drive faster.
He wanted to, but the street was narrow to begin with, and now a popular social media spot was causing a traffic jam that made it almost impossible to move.
...
"Miss, the road ahead is blocked. It’ll take at least twenty minutes to get through."
In the heart of the ordinary district, a luxurious yet understated Porsche was parked roadside. Inside, Yu Xueyan spoke cautiously to Chu Lingshuang from the passenger seat, frowning.
Glancing at the old buildings and congested road ahead, Chu Lingshuang’s expression turned even colder. If it weren’t for Lin Feng, she would never have set foot in a place like this in her life.
She remembered their first meeting, also in a dilapidated warehouse...
Gritting her teeth, she put on her hat, mask, and sunglasses, and said icily, "We’ll walk."
Yu Xueyan was stunned. Was the young lady really going to walk?
It was early spring, the weather was warming, and the midday sun was blazing. Yet her mistress was willing to walk? This was the first time she’d ever seen her break the rules for a man.
If Chu Lingshuang weren’t sitting right there, Yu Xueyan might have suspected she was possessed.
