Chapter 131: The Last Revelry Before the Storm
"Fine, fine!"
Lin Feng casually spread his legs, watching as Chu Lingshuang turned sideways, her weight instantly pressing down upon him. The posture was inexplicably strange; she sat sideways, yet held her back remarkably straight with a sense of nobility.
Lin Feng’s hand hung stiffly in mid-air, and he couldn't help but remark, "Miss, how about you rest your head on my arm?"
Chu Lingshuang’s face flushed slightly, and she cast a displeased glance at him. Though she didn't answer, she obediently followed his suggestion, resting the nape of her neck against his arm.
Though slender, Chu Lingshuang was soft and supple to the touch. Holding her felt like cradling something delicate. The faint scent of roses clung to her, and as she leaned against him with such bird-like vulnerability, for a fleeting moment, Lin Feng felt she resembled a child. Yet, the displeasure and forced compromise brimming in her proud eyes stood in stark contrast to her posture, adding a stimulating sense of dissonance.
For no reason, Lin Feng found this version of Chu Lingshuang unexpectedly cute, though it went no further than that—she was, after all, a contradictory madwoman.
"Here."
Lin Feng used his free hand to pop the tab on a beer can and held it out to her. Chu Lingshuang glanced at it with cold arrogance before finally accepting it.
The fireworks had just faded, leaving the starry sky in full bloom. Beside them, two horses lowered their heads, sniffing at the ground. Behind them lay the deep blue sea beneath the hillside, where the brilliant white moonlight spilled down, scattering across their shoulders.
Lin Feng fell silent, burying his head in his beer, drinking in long, deep gulps. He opened can after can, while Chu Lingshuang took only a few sips, her mind no longer on the drink. She stole glances at him from time to time, watching as the moonlight bathed his refined features, casting a soft, luminous glow upon his cheeks.
Beside her, at their point of contact, Lin Feng’s arm felt firm and solid. Initially, Chu Lingshuang hadn't trusted him, so her body had remained tense. But the moment her neck touched his arm, a strange sense of security washed over her, and she relaxed almost involuntarily.
His arm was strong and powerful, much like the way he held her when they shared a bed every night—a tight, binding grip that brought with it an inescapable sense of falling.
She loved this feeling. It was the feeling of being held tight by the person she loved. It was proof that he needed her, an expression of his urgency to possess her.
As the tipsiness of the alcohol slowly clouded her mind and the sea breeze brushed past, Lin Feng’s scent lingered at her nose. With every breath, she sank deeper into this gentle embrace, unable to stop herself.
"Will you stay with me forever?"
Gazing at the twinkling stars, Chu Lingshuang blurted out the question.
Startled by her voice, a slightly intoxicated Lin Feng pulled himself back to reality. His gaze landed on Chu Lingshuang, less than a foot away, and he carefully studied her expression. She looked as cold and distant as always, her thoughts unreadable, yet her eyes were fixed on the void, filled with a trace of anticipation—perhaps even a hint of fragility.
Lin Feng was momentarily stunned. *Fragility?* That was never Chu Lingshuang’s style. Perhaps this was a test.
His heart skipped a beat. The cool sea breeze helped clear some of the alcohol from his head. *How could that be?* No matter how many times she asked, his answer would always be the same, even if it meant bowing to her authority.
He paused for a moment before speaking slowly, "Miss Chu, I..."
"You will stay with me forever, won't you?"
Before he could finish, Chu Lingshuang’s icy eyes bore directly into his, meeting his evasive gaze.
Lin Feng’s Adam’s apple bobbed as he instinctively said, "Miss Chu, you're drunk... Let me take you back."
He had a bad premonition, especially when he saw her crimson cheeks reflected in the moonlight. He tried to make excuses to deflect, but unexpectedly, Chu Lingshuang suddenly raised her hand, grabbing his chin with a swift, reverse motion.
With extreme force, she compelled him to look at her.
"Look at me!" she commanded, enunciating every word.
The wild, bloodthirsty insanity in her eyes charged into his. As their gazes locked, they tangled together like infinite, suffocating vines. She would not allow him to change the subject; especially when she was speaking, the only master occupying his senses had to be her. She wanted her own reflection clearly mirrored in his black-and-white eyes. Only she could be his everything.
She was invading his world in the most overbearing way, forcing herself to be etched into his soul.
Lin Feng’s eyes flickered, but he was clear-headed enough to know what answer she wanted. She was too overbearing, not even allowing him the slightest room for rebuttal. But to Lin Feng, need could be faked. So could affection. Before his plans reached their conclusion, keeping her steady was the best option, and there was no reason to turn on her now.
He curled the corners of his lips upward and met her gaze fearlessly, his answer spilling out.
"Of course."
*Of course I will stay with you—at least for tonight.* Once this night was over, who knew what tomorrow would bring?
He had expected Chu Lingshuang to force him to repeat it in a full sentence, but unexpectedly, she leaned in closer, crashing against him. The searing heat of her touch rose up, and Lin Feng’s eyes widened slightly. It was an experience he had known many times before, one he had grown accustomed to. Yet, amidst the rising heat of their lips, the alcohol he had consumed rushed to his head.
He responded to her fearlessly. In that proximity, the distance between them turned to zero.
"Lin Feng..."
He heard her low murmur, a blurred, indistinct call amidst their contact. Her hands had climbed onto his shoulders, her eyes hazy, entangling him.
"You are mine..."
Her eyes were a deep, dark red as she gripped his collar tightly. The neckline tightened, and a sense of suffocation rushed to his head. Lin Feng’s vision blurred, his body feeling light, while her all-encompassing intensity continued, forcing his breath to stall time and again.
Dizzy, Lin Feng heard her say, barely audible.
"Call me."
"Miss Chu... hiss!"
"Call my name!"
"Chu Lingshuang..."
"Tell me you will stay with me forever, and never leave."
Lin Feng was dazed. He caught a glimpse of her flushed face beneath her half-closed phoenix eyes, sweat beading on her forehead, her hair damp from the sea mist, clinging to her skin. He felt his resolve flicker as he listened to her voice, which seemed to echo from a place where heaven and earth collided, intermingled with the wild sound of waves crashing against the rocks.
At least in this moment, he chose to surrender.
"I will stay with you, and I will never leave..."
The moonlight shone on the hillside, and amidst the murmuring of the waves, their final revelry began, just before the storm.
