Chapter 119: Yuyao’s Heart Is Stirred
In the primordial world, storms of change roared across the heavens, yet the Celestial Court found itself in utter turmoil. Originally, the Jade Pool Holy Mother and the Supreme Emperor of Heaven, Haotian, had been jubilant over finally resolving the persistent troubles caused by the Spirit Sect. However, neither anticipated that Haotian’s own sister, Yunyao, would develop feelings of love.
Could there be a more vexing complication?
Haotian was naturally displeased. Who dared to be so bold?
Upon further investigation, Haotian’s fury only deepened. The reason for his shame was not that he minded his sister experiencing human emotions, but because the suitor’s identity and background were troubling.
Haotian himself had married the Jade Pool Holy Mother and fathered children; it was unreasonable to forbid his sister from feeling love. Yet if the suitor were a noble figure, perhaps it could be accepted, but this man was merely a young attendant before Haotian — and yet, the two immortals had fallen in love.
Already wary and cautious, Haotian sensed the young attendant’s ambition. Against Yunyao’s protests, he condemned the youth to the cycle of the Six Realms of Reincarnation.
To break his sister’s attachment, Haotian informed the Underworld authorities that the boy was forbidden to ever be human again.
The Emperor of Fengdu, known to hold grudges, was not pleased. During the power struggles in the Celestial Court, Haotian had treated Tongtian—his own matchmaker—so harshly that Tongtian harbored resentment.
Retribution was imminent.
Haotian, uneasy about the Underworld’s efficiency, frequently consulted the Haotian Mirror in his spare moments. The young attendant wandered through the six realms—becoming a leaf on a tree, a drop of water in the sea, a grain of sand—for eight centuries, roaming all but the human realm.
Finally, Haotian could rest, believing the trouble resolved.
To ensure his sister’s heart would heal, Haotian appointed Yunyao to oversee the Rain Department, hoping to wash away her dreams before her eyes.
Yunyao, while dispersing clouds and spreading rain, searched for her beloved. Yet for eight hundred years, she failed to find the young attendant.
By now, the primordial world had entered the Yin-Shang era. Due to the cruelty of the Xia dynasty’s rulers, the people had overthrown them, enthroning the wise King Cheng Tang. After establishing the state of Shang, his descendants later moved the capital, and the Shang dynasty became known as Yin.
One day, as Yunyao carried out her duties of cloud and rain, a casual glance stunned her.
It was him—it was truly him!
Eight hundred years of longing had finally brought Yunyao her happiness.
She hurried to the mortal realm and found the young attendant resting beneath a great tree, unaware that his fortune had arrived.
Yunyao approached quietly, gazing upon the man she had yearned for day and night. Overcome, tears fell from her eyes.
Lost in her joy, she did not notice her tears landing on his face.
“Who… who are you?” The youth looked at the ethereal woman before him, his voice trembling with excitement.
“What are you doing here? You are a spirit of this place. Seeing you here disturbs my cultivation; I came to investigate,” Yunyao hastily wiped her tears and lied.
Thus, Yunyao and the youth reintroduced themselves.
To keep him from leaving, Yunyao used her magic to trap him in this world and fabricated a story about an enemy who had wounded her, necessitating a protective formation for healing.
Upon learning the “truth,” the youth was moved by her story and stayed to care for her.
He revealed his true name: Yang Tianyou.
Their love blossomed swiftly, leading to marriage and children.
Unbeknownst to them, their story had not escaped a certain watchful eye—that of the Matchmaker, who had orchestrated this grand design for the Yang family’s descendants.
Soon, Yunyao bore Yang Zhao, Yang Jian, and Yang Chan.
The Matchmaker, sensing opportunity, reported to Tongtian.
Tongtian then dispatched the Jade Spirit Holy Mother, Zhao Gongming, and Luo Xuan to recruit disciples.
They aimed to gather all future followers of the Chan Sect under their guidance. Without the third generation of disciples replacing the Twelve Immortals’ seats on the Investiture of the Gods list, what could the Chan Sect do?
After explaining their intentions, Yang Tianyou and Yunyao agreed to have their children enter the Spirit Sect, despite being a generation junior in status. Yunyao bore no regrets.
She understood the rivalry between the Spirit Sect and Haotian, but chose not to concern herself with the complex rights and wrongs.
Moreover, having already broken the Three Prohibitions of Immortality by secretly descending to the mortal realm, she feared capture by the Celestial Court. With Spirit Sect disciples protecting her family, her husband and children were safe.
The three emissaries then took Yang Zhao and the others back to Golden Turtle Island.
They advised Yunyao to accompany her children to meet the revered Tongtian, the sect’s founder, before returning.
Bound by sect rules, Yunyao consented.
But no one foresaw that this journey would tear the Yang family apart, leaving them destitute.
As the grand Peach Festival approached, the Jade Pool Holy Mother summoned the celestial maidens to discuss the event’s details.
Yet Yunyao failed to appear, enraging the Jade Pool Holy Mother.
After investigation, it was learned from the Southern Heavenly Gate that Yunyao had gone out to oversee rain ten days prior and had yet to return.
The Jade Pool Holy Mother never imagined Yunyao would fall in love and be with Yang Tianyou; she feared misfortune.
Yunyao was her sister-in-law; if harm befell her, how could she explain to Haotian? She hastened to inform Haotian.
At this time, Haotian was also busy preparing for the impending Investiture calamity, conducting meetings to arrange strategies.
The Jade Pool Holy Mother quickly arrived at the Lingxiao Palace and whispered the news of Yunyao’s disappearance to Haotian.
Haotian, supreme ruler of the Celestial Court, remained composed.
He dismissed the court and summoned the Haotian Mirror to investigate Yunyao’s condition.
“Nothing serious,” Haotian observed upon seeing his sister wandering among mortals; he took no offense.
Yunyao had once quarrelled with Haotian for years over the young attendant, leaving him remorseful.
Perhaps a change of scenery would help her forget.
Yet the Jade Pool Holy Mother suddenly cried out in alarm, “What is this?”
Before them, a man and Yunyao were intimately close, her face radiant with joy.
Haotian’s fury erupted upon further inquiry. “How dare this insolent wretch deceive me!”
He smashed a nearby teacup to the ground.
That man was the same youth from Haotian’s court.
Haotian had once decreed that Yang Tianyou be condemned to the Six Realms to sever Yunyao’s attachment.
But he never imagined Tongtian would break his promise and allow Yang Tianyou to live as a human.
This matter was far from simple; the Matchmaker was involved. Without him, Yunyao would never have married or borne children.
Haotian’s hatred for the Matchmaker and Tongtian’s Spirit Sect disciples deepened.
“Marshal Tianpeng, proceed immediately to Lingxiao Palace!” an attendant ordered the marshal training soldiers in the Heavenly River.
“By imperial decree!” Marshal Tianpeng swept his robe and followed the attendant to the palace.
