Chapter 70: A Villain’s Deeds
"Why hasn't the ambulance arrived yet?" Qin Xuan saw Su Muqing standing nearby and hurried over to ask.
"I don't know." Su Muqing frowned and shook her head, indicating she had no idea.
Qin Xuan glanced around and suddenly noticed something unusual. The wealthy, handsome freshman from the medical school who had caused a stir earlier that morning was now hiding off to the side, watching the scene while cautiously making a phone call.
Qin Xuan sneered, focusing his attention, and immediately overheard the conversation.
"...Yes, it's him. That guy from military training today just had to go against me, even tattled on me, making the regimental commander and class advisor scold me. Now I have to write a long self-critique. Can't believe he got hit by a car—serves him right. Mom, I was so angry this morning. Make sure you give him a hard time..."
Listening to this, Qin Xuan was instantly enraged.
Instructor Liu had acted bravely, risking himself to save two female students, only to be struck by a car. What noble conduct! Yet this privileged youth, over some trivial grievance, wanted to make things difficult for Instructor Liu. "Give him a hard time"? Didn't he realize this was no minor matter—a car accident. A delay of even a few minutes could be fatal.
But it was the mother who angered Qin Xuan even more. Through the phone came the doting voice of a middle-aged woman: "Alright, dear son. I've just sent the ambulance out. He crossed you—bad luck for him. If he can't pull through, it's his own fate..."
Qin Xuan's gaze turned icy.
These two, with their petty schemes, ignited his fury. Yet he knew now was not the time to deal with the spoiled freshman. The most important thing was to ensure the instructor's survival.
"We're leaving. Let's take him to the hospital," Qin Xuan said to Su Muqing.
"Huh? Aren't we waiting for the ambulance?" Su Muqing asked in surprise.
"There's been a problem." Qin Xuan cast a glance at the privileged youth in the distance, but didn't explain further to Su Muqing. Lives were at stake—another few minutes might be too late.
"Bring the car around. I'll stabilize the instructor's condition." With that, Qin Xuan strode decisively toward the fallen Instructor Liu.
Though healing him wasn't possible, Qin Xuan's abilities could at least keep his injuries from worsening, which was better than lying helpless on the ground.
Su Muqing hesitated briefly, then chose to trust Qin Xuan, hurrying to prepare the Chevrolet.
"What are you doing! Step back immediately!" a police officer shouted at Qin Xuan.
"Move aside," Qin Xuan pushed him away.
"Stop! What do you think you're doing?" the leading officer, surnamed Ma, noticed the commotion and rushed over to intervene.
"Taking him to the hospital," Qin Xuan replied coldly, preparing to lift Instructor Liu off the ground. At that moment, the instructor's eyes were tightly closed, his resolute face inspiring respect, and there was no blood at the scene—apparently, no external injuries.
But Qin Xuan remained cautious. Often, internal injuries are more serious than external ones...
"This is reckless! Who are you? If something happens to this hero, can you bear the responsibility?" Officer Ma called out, and several others moved to surround Qin Xuan.
"If something happens, I'll take full responsibility!" Qin Xuan's words made the police step back several paces.
"Quick, get in," Su Muqing had just brought the car around.
Without hesitation, Qin Xuan carefully helped the unconscious instructor into the vehicle.
The Chevrolet sped off, leaving the police officers exchanging puzzled looks. Officer Ma growled, "Remember, if anything happens, that kid takes the blame!"
"Of course! He was injured in a car accident—how can they be so reckless?" the others protested angrily.
None of them considered why Qin Xuan's words alone had made them retreat instead of stopping him...
On the way to Jinling First Hospital, they soon passed a sluggish ambulance heading toward the campus. Qin Xuan sneered inwardly—at this pace, even minor injuries would worsen.
Without stopping to notify anyone, Su Muqing drove straight to Jinling First Hospital, the nearest major facility to Jinling University.
With Qin Xuan channeling his internal energy to regulate the instructor's breathing, Liu's condition did not deteriorate during the journey. Qin Xuan could sense the internal organs had suffered trauma, but there was little he could do.
Soon, they arrived at the hospital.
"Make way—emergency!" Qin Xuan carried the instructor toward the emergency room, and the crowd parted for them.
"Emergency? You need to register and pay first," said a matronly nurse in a white coat, initially intent on something else, but upon seeing one in military uniform and the other in camouflage, she snapped irritably.
"He was hit by a car. Shouldn't he be taken straight to the emergency room?" Qin Xuan frowned.
"Register and pay—didn't you hear?" the nurse glared at Qin Xuan, annoyed.
Just moments ago, the emergency department director had called, instructing her to delay any military patient, to give them a hard time.
Naturally, the nurse obeyed her superior without question.
"Qin Xuan, what's going on?" Su Muqing had parked and hurried inside, surprised to see them still at the entrance.
"Just look," Qin Xuan gestured toward the nurse.
"Register and pay. Otherwise, forget about getting him into the emergency room," the nurse repeated sternly, facing Su Muqing.
"I'll make a call," Su Muqing ignored the nurse, pulling out her phone.
After saying a few words, she hung up and gave Qin Xuan an "OK" gesture, indicating the matter was resolved.
Qin Xuan was still puzzled when suddenly a group rushed over from the emergency room, led by a middle-aged doctor who asked anxiously, "Where is the patient? Quickly, bring him into the emergency room—procedures can wait, lives come first!"
A stretcher was swiftly prepared. Qin Xuan, though surprised, knew this was no time to dwell on details, and quickly laid the instructor flat.
A moment's thought made it clear Su Muqing's phone call had made the difference.
"Qin Xuan, how is it?" As the doctors entered the emergency room, Su Muqing stood beside him and asked quietly.
"What do you mean?" Qin Xuan replied, puzzled.
"In this country, sometimes connections are vital," Su Muqing said.
"That's true. Without connections, it's hard to get anywhere," Qin Xuan narrowed his eyes, agreeing.
"Exactly," Su Muqing smiled, "So do you still plan to resolve Li Shihao's issue your way?"
At the mention, Qin Xuan's gaze immediately turned cold. "There's no need to discuss it. If I can solve something myself, I won't rely on connections—and this is clearly a different matter."
Su Muqing said nothing, but her heart was conflicted.
Li Shihao, after all these years, I hope you don't disappoint me... If even you are such a beast behind the scenes, is there any goodness left in this world?
Thinking of the words "good man," Su Muqing glanced at Qin Xuan, then shook her head with a bitter smile.
