Chapter 134: Gunshots on Campus
"How is Reginder doing, the one who was arrested a while back?" Qin Xuan asked.
"I haven't really paid attention to that. Why? Is there some sort of situation?" Su Mubai asked, surprised.
"Yes. According to recent reports, his former drug-trafficking cohorts have been plotting to break him out. I think Reginder needs to be guarded closely, otherwise, there might be trouble."
Su Mubai frowned.
Although he hadn't paid much attention to what happened to Reginder after he was locked up, it was still of great significance to him. For one, Reginder had been a real estate tycoon in Jinling; his incarceration had allowed the Su family's real estate business to expand significantly. Secondly, Reginder had been arrested because of Su Muqing. If Reginder were to escape, Su Muqing might be in danger, a prospect he was unwilling to contemplate.
"Don't worry, I'll look into it later and instruct them to be careful..." Su Mubai nodded.
But just then, Qin Xuan’s brow furrowed abruptly, and he stood up without a moment's hesitation.
"Hm? Qin Xuan, what's wrong?"
Su Mubai was stunned, wondering why Qin Xuan had suddenly stood up.
"I just heard gunshots coming from the direction of the school!"
Qin Xuan quickly strode to the window of the private room, leaned out, and looked toward the school gate. Cultivators possess far better hearing and vision than ordinary people, which was why Su Mubai hadn't heard a thing.
Qin Xuan looked out and saw two large black vans parked in front of a restaurant a great distance away. Students, appearing as small as ants, were running out of the restaurant one after another, their screams echoing incessantly.
"Something's happened. Brother Su, I have to go there now!"
Qin Xuan's heart skipped a beat, and he threw open the window and jumped out!
Su Mubai was shocked. This was the fourth floor—Qin Xuan had actually just jumped down like that? He hurriedly ran to the window and looked down, seeing Qin Xuan’s black-robed figure already sprinting across the street, moving with incredible speed toward the school.
Looking into the distance, he could indeed see that the entrance to a school restaurant about three hundred meters away was in chaos.
"Gunshots?"
Although Su Mubai hadn't heard them, he trusted Qin Xuan’s hearing. The fact that he had jumped from the fourth floor without suffering a single scratch filled Su Mubai with a sense of awe.
He hurriedly pulled out his phone to call the police.
...
Qin Xuan ran toward the scene with extreme speed, feeling quite anxious.
Zhou Xiaoyu had told him earlier that the place she was hosting lunch today was the very restaurant where the incident was taking place.
The restaurant had been opened by Jinling University students as a form of self-employment. Thanks to the school's support, its prime location, and good service, business had always been excellent.
It was also the student restaurant closest to the teaching area, and foot traffic was always high.
And now, a gunshot had actually rung out from inside!
Qin Xuan realized instantly that something was wrong and dared not waste a single second. He knew that Zhou Xiaoyu, Dongfang Qingwan, and the entire Business Class 1 were having lunch in that restaurant!
In just half a minute, Qin Xuan arrived at the entrance of the restaurant.
Although it was only about three hundred meters from the place where he had been eating with Su Mubai, that was the straight-line distance. Qin Xuan had to navigate around teaching buildings, statues, and other obstacles, which was why it took half a minute. Otherwise, he could have covered that distance in ten seconds.
Arriving at the entrance, Qin Xuan felt the gravity of the situation even more. The two black vans were parked firmly in front of the restaurant; he didn't know who had brought them, but they exuded a dangerous aura.
A large number of students were running out of the restaurant, screaming and shouting.
"Help! Run!"
"Someone's been shot!"
"Don't kill me, don't kill me!"
...
The entire entrance was in total disarray.
Qin Xuan frowned and stepped into the restaurant. While a large crowd of students was fleeing, he was the only one heading inside. His black robe, in particular, attracted countless gazes.
"Damn, that guy is still heading in? Is he going to his death?"
"What do you know! That's Brother Sword!"
"So what? Whatever brother he is, there’s someone in there with a gun."
The crowd whispered among themselves, watching Qin Xuan with curiosity, though none dared to approach, all keeping a safe distance to watch the spectacle.
In a place they deemed perfectly safe, no one wanted to miss out on the show.
...
Qin Xuan felt extremely tense. He hoped that Dongfang Qingwan and the others hadn't been harmed; otherwise, the trouble would be immense. Along the way, Qin Xuan hadn't seen a single student he recognized, which meant that Dongfang Qingwan, Zhou Xiaoyu, and the others were definitely still inside the restaurant and hadn't escaped.
It was very likely that the two vans outside and the gunshot he had heard were aimed specifically at them.
The entire restaurant was divided into two floors. The ground floor was a main hall with some ordinary small booths along the sides. The second floor consisted entirely of private rooms, featuring an elegant environment with various sizes suitable for different types of student gatherings, whether for class parties or couples.
Qin Xuan didn't know which way to go, seeing only the chaos in the main hall as restaurant staff, chefs, and servers all fled.
Qin Xuan quickly grabbed a chef. "Where did the incident happen?"
The chef had wanted to break free and continue running, but he hadn't expected Qin Xuan’s grip to be so firm. Unable to escape, he turned back with a mournful face: "Young man, the shooter is on the second floor. Please, let me go. I have elderly parents and young children at home; I don't want to get shot..."
Qin Xuan released him and hurried toward the second floor.
The restaurant's staircase was beautifully designed, a wooden spiral that felt elegant and noble. Qin Xuan raced up, and by the time he reached the second floor, there were very few people left.
After reaching the top, he found a network of interconnected private rooms of various sizes. He didn't see anyone at first, but then he heard a commotion from a nearby room and, heart pounding, rushed toward it.
Within seconds, he turned a corner to find Room 208. The door was ajar, and figures were flickering inside, with the noise coming from within.
Anxious and without a second thought, Qin Xuan rushed forward and kicked the door.
With a "bang," the ajar door swung open!
But after kicking it open, he froze.
The room was not large, holding less than twenty people across two tables, all huddled on the ground covering their heads. Several men in black were standing in the room, gesturing wildly. The leader wore sunglasses and held a Type 54 pistol!
Seeing Qin Xuan kick the door open and charge in, everyone in the room was startled.
Qin Xuan was even more startled, because the people in the room were not Zhou Xiaoyu and her group, but a different set of students having lunch.
