Aze found that his appetite was excellent today, and he ate bit by bit until his belly was round and full. Greed at his side cried out in protest.

If he was not allowed to eat, it was as though a layer of skin had been peeled from him.

Aze stuck out his tongue and licked his lips, his tail swaying back and forth behind him.

Leid looked at the nearly empty bag and refused, “No more. You’ve already had enough.”

He reached out and patted Aze’s belly.

Those hands were warm, and Aze felt so comfortable he almost wanted to lie on the floor and let him keep touching him.

Greed cried, “Aze! How can you do this? What good does it do you to let me starve? Ah! Not giving me any food? How cruel! Bad Aze!”

Aze wagged his tail and rubbed affectionately against Leid’s chin, though his eyes were fixed on the pastries.

Every so often, he even used his paw to paw at Leid.

Leid truly could not win against the little wolf. After all, as long as it blinked, Leid would obediently give in to it, helpless against its charms.

“Last one.”

Leid held up one finger and waved it in front of Aze, signaling that he could have only this final piece.

Aze nodded obediently and let out a few soft whimpers.

Then he took the pastry Leid offered him into his mouth, while casting a meaningful look at Greed.

After all, this creature had been sent down by the Heavenly Emperor and had followed him for quite some time.

Though Greed was a little noisy and a little hot-tempered, still, still, one could not let him go hungry. The feeling of hunger was far too miserable.

Aze remained considerate enough to give Greed the last pastry.

When Greed finished eating and finally stopped chattering in his ear, Aze licked his paw and nuzzled back to Leid’s side.

His eyes narrowed.

He felt especially sleepy today, especially now.

Before long, he had leaned against Leid and fallen asleep.

His tail was still looped around Leid’s body.

Leid thought the little wolf was merely dozing, and stroked its back again and again.

The gray fur along Aze’s back grew smoother beneath Leid’s hand.

“Little wolf?”

Beside him, the little wolf made faint, soft breathing sounds.

Leid smiled and picked him up, placing him on the bed.

He ate a little something himself, then, as was his habit, lay down beside the little wolf.

As soon as he did, the sleeping wolf rolled into his arms.

The young man’s azure eyes blinked gently, as though flecks of blue light were appearing within them.

His hand moved through Aze’s fur again and again.

“Little wolf, if only you were a girl.”

Leid rested his chin on the little wolf and quietly curved his lips.

If she were a girl, he would fall in love with her, court her, and then the two of them would marry.

Leid swore he would be good to her forever and always, and treasure her in the palm of his hand forever and always.

But she was a little wolf.

Leid, what a shameful thought.

Leid closed his eyes, holding the little wolf in his arms.

Warmth seeped through his body, a temperature that made him feel safe and at ease.

--

Leid slept for a while, and when he woke, his body felt numb beyond belief.

His arms, especially, were almost stiff.

He opened his eyes, squinting slightly at the sunlight streaming in from outside the window.

Then, almost unconsciously, he reached to the side.

A fluffy gray tail was caught in his hand.

Leid instinctively rubbed it a few times.

“Ticklish...”

The tail quickly slipped from his grasp.

Hmm, Leid thought, perhaps he had used the wrong amount of pressure.

He rubbed his eyes with his other hand.

His mind went blank with a sharp buzz.

What was that sound just now?

Why was there a girl’s voice on his bed?
