Asi slept through the night.

It was the most comfortable sleep she had had since arriving in this world.

Lad was right beside her.

Asi withdrew her paw from Lad’s body.

The boy was truly handsome, with long eyelashes.

They curled slightly.

His skin was fair and delicate.

Asi flicked her tail, her eyes suddenly brightening.

She crept behind Lad and bit at the fabric of his clothes with her teeth.

“No, stop…” Lad mumbled.

He slowly opened his eyes.

He felt something moving behind him, momentarily forgetting that he had slept with the little wolf the night before.

He struggled forward, and suddenly his shirt was torn open by the wolf’s sharp teeth.

Asi, with a scrap of fabric still in her mouth, looked up.

Sure enough, she saw a red mark there.

She relaxed instantly.

Spitting out the piece of cloth, she crawled nonchalantly to Lad’s front.

“Woof woof.”

Asi called out in a pleasing tone.

She pushed her head forward, gently licking Lad’s cheek with her tongue again and again.

Lad was still dazed.

Suddenly his shirt was torn, and suddenly his face was covered in slobber.

And then—

He seemed rather poor.

He barely had any clothes to change into.

Still, Lad lowered his eyes to the lively little wolf before him.

He sighed softly and patted its furry head.

“I’ll... go make breakfast.”

There were still some supplies in the kitchen, ones Lad had set aside days ago.

It seemed he would need to visit the market again today.

Asi sat up perfectly straight on the bed after Lad rubbed her head.

She was remarkably well-behaved.

Hearing Lad say he would cook, her eyes brightened instantly.

-

When Lad entered the kitchen, he was stunned.

There was nothing left in the kitchen—completely empty.

Asi followed Lad, circled the kitchen, and then came to stand before him, looking at him expectantly.

Lad pressed his lips together, his brows furrowing.

“Little wolf, it seems our home... was robbed…”

Nothing else was missing, only the food kept in the kitchen was gone.

Even the dishes had been scrubbed clean.

Who would break into Lad’s house just for a bite to eat?

Everyone in Red Hood Town knew Lad wasn’t a knight and was the poorest.

Who would ever come to his house?

Lad was puzzled.

Asi let out a few confused whines.

“We’ll go out and buy things later,” Lad said.

-

Lad crouched down, gazing lovingly into the little wolf’s moist black eyes.

The little wolf’s belly was sunken.

Even if Asi wasn’t of the wolf tribe, Lad believed she’d fare better among the wolves of the Black Forest than in his home.

But Lad didn’t want Asi to leave him.

He hadn’t felt the presence of another in his home for so long.

He had spent too much time alone.

Then, all at once, the little wolf had burst into his life.

Lad, bit by bit, didn’t want to let go.

-

Asi burrowed into Lad’s basket.

On her head lay a layer of herbs, meant to conceal her from prying eyes.

Truthfully, Lad didn’t want to take the little wolf out; it was too dangerous.

But seeing the wolf’s silent, moist gaze, full of grievance, as if he were about to abandon her—

Lad relented, letting her come along.

After all...

He could use magic.

He’d used it once, so he wasn’t afraid to use it a few more times.
