Chapter 73: After Class, Come Into My Arms (71)
Before getting out of the car, Asi carefully secured the box containing the cake. When she turned around, Luc was already standing by the door, thoughtfully opening it for her. One hand hovered protectively above her head.
“Why are you doing this?” Asi blinked, finding Luc’s behavior oddly unfamiliar today. “You never used to do this before.”
Luc coughed a few times. Meeting Asi’s clear gaze, his cheeks flushed a deep red, the warmth suffusing his face so intensely he could feel it himself. Fortunately, it was nighttime.
He took Asi’s hand, his tone serious. “There’s no need to ask why.”
“Oh.” Asi lowered her head, watching the tips of her shoes.
The lights around the amusement park had all been switched to a soft, warm yellow. The glow was gentle, not too bright, creating a comfortable atmosphere.
Yet…
Luc glanced at the two cars creeping along not far away, a sense of foreboding flickering through him. Both sedans moved more slowly than a walk, their pace almost suspicious. Instinctively, he drew Asi into his arms.
Asi had been watching their shadows on the ground, head bowed, when she was suddenly pulled close. She looked a little stunned.
Behind them, Chaoyun seemed about to explode with rage. Shangyuan was utterly shameless! How dare he embrace Asi!
She yanked off her sunglasses, considering for a moment whether she should just drive straight into them. After all, Asi was immortal—if she died, there would be another life. Still…
Chaoyun worried Asi might be heartbroken. After all, in this life, Luc had treated Asi very well.
She had seen it all.
Up ahead, Luc held Asi close, step by step leading her toward the amusement park.
Motan was driving while snacking, shoving a big handful of beef jerky into his mouth. Suddenly, he looked up, realizing he was about to collide with the car in front of him. He cursed under his breath and slammed on the brakes.
But then—
The car lurched uncontrollably forward!
Motan’s mouth fell open in panic, still full of beef he hadn’t swallowed. He had stepped on the gas instead of the brake!
The meat stuck in his throat, and Motan choked to death.
With a bang, Motan’s car crashed into the equally suspicious vehicle ahead, sending it skidding far down the road.
Luc was still holding Asi as they walked toward the amusement park, just about to cross the street. He was bending down, saying something to her, when suddenly a blinding light flashed before them.
Reacting instantly, he pulled Asi into his embrace.
The impact came swiftly.
Chaoyun, caught off guard, was struck by the car behind her. Unluckily, she hadn’t fastened her seat belt. Her head slammed into the windshield.
As her consciousness faded, she dimly saw two figures lying by the roadside, the ground beneath them stained red with blood.
It was a strikingly tragic sight.
Luc clung to Asi, holding the pale girl tightly in his arms. Fury surged within him, a violent urge to kill the two in the cars behind nearly overwhelming him. His own body ached terribly, blood flowing freely from his head.
He had reserved the entire area, so there were no pedestrians and no passing vehicles.
He pulled Asi closer, refusing to let go. Enduring the pain, he leaned in, with the last of his strength pressing his lips to hers.
Just as sweet as he had imagined.
A faint, satisfied smile tugged at his lips.
“Asi, I love you,” he whispered. “Be my girlfriend.”
Luc closed his eyes, arms still wrapped tightly around Asi.
“If you don’t say anything, I’ll take that as a yes.”
His heart was full.
“Does this count as dying together?” he murmured to himself, until even the last shred of strength left him.
A car crash on earth had claimed two deities from the heavens, the Demon Lord of the underworld, and the King of the Monsters.
All perished together.
For a long time afterward, this became the talk of every immortal, demon, and monster alike.
