"Why are you here?"
Aci was pushed into the car by Lu Yu.
The car pulled up in a shady spot on the road outside the school gates.
"Did you miss me?"
Lu Yu turned and ruffled Aci’s hair.
The feel of her in his palm was so good he didn’t want to let go.
"No."
Aci shook her head honestly.
She leaned against the window, gazing outside. "Xiaobai, if you have something to say, hurry up. I won’t be able to go in soon."
Lu Yu pinched her cheek in annoyance.
He had spent the last few days rushing through his own work, all for this chance to see her.
He wasn’t exaggerating—he’d been so desperate to see her, he’d lost sleep for days.
And here this heartless girl was, barely exchanging a few words before wanting to dash off to school.
What was so great about school anyway?
Aci shook her head in protest, unable to shake off Lu Yu’s hands.
She could only glare at him, cheeks puffed in indignation.
"You’re using too much force."
Aci pressed a hand to her cheek. "It hurts when you pinch."
"Sorry," Lu Yu laughed. "I’ll be gentler next time."
Aci pursed her lips. "There won’t be a next time."
With that, she turned to look out the window again, urging him to speak quickly.

Lu Yu could only smile helplessly.
"Open your mouth, let me see."
Aci obediently opened wide.
She knew this was his routine checkup.
Lu Yu examined her mouthful of white teeth and nodded in satisfaction.
"I’ve been very good. Only one candy a day, I didn’t eat more."
She held up a finger, very solemn.
Her dark eyes shimmered, blinking brightly.
"Good girl." He patted her head as a reward, and, under her expectant gaze, took out a bag and handed it to her. "Strawberry flavor. Do you like it?"
Aci took it happily, peeking into the bag.
Inside the delicate little box was a cream cake, topped with two strawberries.
Aci smiled, satisfied.
"Xiaobai, thank you."
She blinked and added, "Blueberry is delicious too."
With those words, Aci opened the car door and ran off towards the school.
Lu Yu watched her retreating figure and couldn’t help but laugh.
His eyes were full of tenderness.
He understood what she meant—she’d switched flavors again.
So fickle.
The dappled shadows of the trees still couldn’t block the summer sunlight, which filtered through the car window and fell across Lu Yu’s face.
He pressed his tongue against his cheek.

Lu Yu chuckled softly.
He listened to the thudding in his chest, beat after beat.
He lingered a little longer before leaving.
Aci carried the little cake into the classroom.
No sooner had she set it on her desk than Rose came over, grinning at her.
"Wow, a little cake. That packaging isn’t cheap. Has Lu Yu struck it rich?"
She was just teasing casually.
Rose’s family wasn’t short on money, and she was used to cakes like this—fancy packaging, sweet taste.
But nothing compared to a boyfriend delivering it himself.
Aci smiled, and as she sat down, she noticed several classmates glancing her way.
She blinked, ignoring them.
"By the way, Aci, what’s up with Sheng at the door? Why did he call you ‘sis’?"
"He tried to pick a fight with me before. He couldn’t beat me."
Her tone was calm.
"Mm..." Rose propped her chin, gazing at Aci. "Right, you scared that whole group of girls by yourself back then. How are you so tough?"
"I told you a long time ago," Aci said, not bothering with modesty, "but you didn’t believe me."
She’d told Rose long ago—if anyone bullied her, just let Aci know.
She was tough.
But no one believed her.
