I have to praise the little restaurant outside the school—it’s delicious and cheap.

A Si and Rose both patted their round, full bellies and smiled contentedly.

As they were leaving, they ran into a girl head-on.

She wore heavy makeup and looked so frail that a gust of wind might knock her over. With a fierce expression, she dashed into a convenience store near the school gate.

It was mealtime, so most students had already gone home. Only a handful remained outside.

“Come out here! Do you know that Sheng is my boyfriend? What right do you have to seduce him?”

Sheng? The name sounded familiar, but A Si couldn’t recall where she’d heard it before.

Rose leaned over conspiratorially and whispered, “Do you remember the girl who cornered us in the bathroom back in our second year?”

A Si tilted her head and thought for a moment; she had a vague recollection. After all, she hadn’t just been cornered in the bathroom, but also on her way home.

“Hmm... Jiang Xiaorui?”

“Yes, that’s her! Back then, she was always giving me trouble because of Su Jing. I always thought she liked Su Jing and went against her a lot. But guess what?”

A Si blinked, signaling for her to continue.

“Jiang Xiaorui never truly liked Su Jing! She even chased after your Lu Yu before, but was rejected so miserably that she turned to Su Jing. Meanwhile, there was a delinquent called Sheng after her, and at some point, the two got together…”

A Si blinked. She remembered this part. Back in their second year, the two had started seeing each other and even teamed up to cause her trouble. They were quite nasty.

“Now she’s getting what she deserves. That Sheng was just toying with her! And you know what’s wrong with that guy? He always targets girls from our school, finds a girlfriend and never breaks up, just asking for trouble!”

Rose was speaking animatedly, completely oblivious to the fact that Sheng, along with his gang of followers, was walking their way. Her voice was loud, and Sheng heard every word.

So did his crew, and the phrase “what’s wrong with his head” made Sheng instantly furious.

He was already tired of Jiang Xiaorui, but the girl wouldn’t let go and was now bothering his new girlfriend. Hearing someone insult him pushed him over the edge.

“You think you can talk to me like that?” Sheng roared.

The students nearby scattered quickly. Sheng was well known for loitering at the school gate—a reckless thug who bullied others. He strutted around shirtless in the summer, showing off his muscles, looking quite menacing. Most students wouldn’t dare mess with him.

Hearing such a fierce male voice, Rose immediately panicked. Luckily, they were close to the school gate.

She was about to pull A Si and make a run for it.

“Trying to run? You insult me and want to run away? Who gave you the guts?” Sheng shouted. “Boys, stop them!”

His gang looked just as menacing, and at his command, they quickly surrounded the girls.

“A Si, what do we do…” Rose clung to A Si’s arm, frightened. She’d never been surrounded by so many tattooed men before, and just looking at their size, she knew they were no match.

Both she and A Si were petite; wouldn’t they be beaten to a pulp?

A Si, however, wasn’t nervous at all. The sudden strong smell of sweat made her wrinkle her nose in distaste.

“Don’t worry, Rose,” she said, gently rubbing Rose’s head to comfort her. Rose was trembling so much that it made A Si shake a little, too.

“Are you really going to hit us?” she asked.

Sheng strode over, brimming with aggression. A Si looked up and met the man’s gaze, her lips pressed together in clear annoyance.
