"How can you be like this? I told you, this is a hospital—you can't make a scene here! You can't just barge in looking for your son, and your injuries haven't healed yet! Stop running around and go back to your room!" The medical staff trailing behind the woman wore expressions of pure anxiety.

They had never encountered such a troublesome, even a bit deranged, patient before. The moment she heard that hospitalization would cost money, she wanted to leave immediately and demanded the hospital return all her fees. When they refused, she threw a fit. Someone let slip that her son was in one of the VIP rooms upstairs, so the woman insisted on rushing up, and no one could hold her back.

"Lu Yu! You ungrateful wretch! Did I give birth to you just so you could drive me to my grave?" The moment she entered, she saw Lu Yu lying in bed, a young girl sitting beside him, the table piled with snacks. Instantly, her temper flared.

"Look at this! My son hasn't managed to kill his mother yet, and now he sits here enjoying himself! Is this just to spite me? You won't even give me money!" She lunged toward Lu Yu in a frenzy, but her eyes caught him moving closer to Asi, standing protectively in front of the girl.

The woman halted at once, scoffing coldly. "Well, well, even when you’re sick you can’t forget to have a girl at your side. You really are your father's son!"

She wore a pale blue hospital gown, and as she reached out, the scars on her wrists were revealed—deep, jagged lines. The fact that she was still alive was nothing short of a miracle.

In truth, when Lu Yu’s mother was young, she had been beautiful. But now? Her face was sharp and bitter, any trace of past loveliness long since vanished. The nurses hesitated at the door, unsure what to do—after all, it was late, and many patients were resting. Her outburst had woken several people already. This was the VIP ward; most of the patients here were not to be trifled with.

Lu Yu nodded at the nurses, who quickly closed the door and withdrew. From the moment his mother entered, his expression had grown cold and shadowed, his hand at his side slowly curling into a fist.

Asi stood behind Lu Yu, casting a furtive glance at the woman, startled by the venom in her eyes. She was glaring at Asi with such hatred that she couldn't understand why. Asi knew this was Lu Yu’s private affair, but she didn’t want to leave—after all, it was because of his mother that Lu Yu had ended up in this state. She was genuinely afraid his mother might try to hurt him again.

So she remained quietly behind Lu Yu, ready to step in and protect him at the first sign of trouble.

"Heh, father? Mother?" Lu Yu’s voice was flat. "If you two can even be called that."

His mother’s eyes widened. "You think I wanted to give birth to you? Lu Yinjun, that scumbag, slept with me and then denied it. After you were born, all you ever did was make my life hell! And now you’ve grown up, and you won’t even give me money when I ask!"

Lu Yu pressed his fingers to his brow, frustration etched across his face. He hated for Asi to see how sordid and ugly his origins were, or to witness his mother like this.

"Asi, could you please step outside for a moment?" Lu Yu’s voice was hoarse, tinged with pleading—and shame.

"What, afraid I’ll hit her?" his mother snapped, seeing Lu Yu whispering to Asi. She lunged toward Asi, intent on slapping her.

She blamed Asi for everything, convinced the girl was only interested in Lu Yu for his money, just like herself. In her eyes, it was because of Asi that Lu Yu refused to give her money. She was determined to teach this insolent little brat a lesson.

With eyes brimming with spite, she charged forward, her fury undiminished.
