Chapter 29: After Class, Come Into My Arms (27)
Lu Yu pulled Asi into his embrace with one swift motion.
The little girl seemed quite unwilling, continuously pushing at him with her hands.
“Xiaobai, let go,” she said angrily.
His chest was so firm—she’d bumped into it just now, and her cheek still ached from the impact.
Her eyes brimmed with unshed tears, though Lu Yu couldn’t see them.
The young man’s brow was relaxed; his dark eyes sparkled with irrepressible amusement.
“Lu Yu, let go of her!” the dean hadn’t left yet. He’d just reached the stairwell when he heard that low, cheerful laugh from behind—it was unmistakably Lu Yu’s.
The fire in his heart flared even higher.
Of course, Lu Yu heard him, but he didn’t loosen his hold.
Instead, he drew her in even tighter.
“No,” he said.
The boy tilted his head back, his dark gaze flickering ahead before returning to the girl in his arms.
Asi was looking up at him, her black eyes shimmering with tears, lips pressed into a tight line.
She looked truly angry.
He blinked, questioning.
What’s wrong? Why are you crying?
Asi averted her gaze and lowered her head.
“Asi, come here to your teacher.”
“Mm.”
The little girl pushed herself free of Lu Yu and obediently stood at the dean’s side.
Lu Yu shot the dean a frustrated glare.
With nowhere to put his hands, he stuffed them into his pockets.
His dark eyes landed briefly on the dean as he asked impatiently, “Sir, what exactly do you want?”
He just wanted to be alone with the girl—why did this man always have to show up?
The dean snorted, ignoring Lu Yu, and turned instead to the well-behaved Asi.
“Asi, right?”
“Yes.”
“You’re in Class One—your studies are going well, aren’t they?”
For the first time, embarrassment flickered across Asi’s face. She pressed her lips together and said, “Not really.”
The dean was taken aback. “How modest.”
Asi lifted her head. It wasn’t modesty.
She really wasn’t doing well.
She hadn’t even taken an exam yet, so she didn’t know how her grades would turn out.
“A girl who studies this well and is so obedient should stay away from certain people, you know?” The dean had meant to pat Asi on the head—she was just too adorable—but the icy gaze boring into him from two directions made him hesitate.
“For example, your classmate Lu Yu here—now, I’m not being prejudiced,” the dean said with a kindly smile, glancing at Lu Yu before turning back to Asi. “You must study hard, understand?”
Asi nodded. “Yes, I understand.”
“Stay away from him.”
Asi nodded again. “Alright.”
Completely ignoring Lu Yu’s now stormy expression, Asi said softly, “Sir, class has started. I’ll go back now.”
“Yes, yes, hurry back to class! Study well!” the dean all but shooed her away, stepping forward to block Lu Yu’s view.
Only after the girl’s figure vanished around the stairway did he turn to Lu Yu. “You should get back to your studies too!”
The dean widened his eyes, hoping to intimidate him, but Lu Yu didn’t even spare him a glance.
He seemed eager to leave, striding away quickly and disappearing from the dean’s sight.
“Hey, Asi, wait up!”
Luckily, she hadn’t gone far. Lu Yu strode forward, hooked a finger through the collar of her shirt, and pulled her back in front of him.
Lowering his head, he met Asi’s reproachful gaze.
She shifted unhappily. “Let go of me.”
