Chapter 21 After Class, Come Into My Arms (19)
Lu Yu's gaze settled on the small hand holding the lollipop, his eyes growing deeper.
He asked, "What is this? How do you eat it?"
He would never have paid attention to these girlish things before, but today was different—Asi had given it to him.
Anything from Asi was different.
Hearing this, Asi took the lollipop back, her delicate brows knitting together slightly.
She had never eaten one before either, and had no idea what to do.
Surely the outer layer wasn't edible, was it?
But how was she supposed to get it off?
The girl pressed her lips together, her expression troubled.
Lu Yu looked at her, feeling an unexpected dryness in his throat. He swallowed and, trying to sound casual, suggested, "Maybe you have to peel off the wrapper first? Just tear it a little, and it should come off, right?"
His tone was tentative.
Asi tried to tear it open, and sure enough, she saw the round candy inside. She carefully held it out to Lu Yu, her voice sincere: "Xiaobai, you're amazing!"
She hadn’t even noticed the wrapper could come off.
Lu Yu took the candy, the tips of his ears flushing red.
The moment his gaze met Asi’s dark, bright eyes, he quickly looked away, suddenly feeling a bit guilty.
He put the candy in his mouth—strawberry flavor.
Sweet.
Just knowing it was from Asi made his heart melt with honeyed warmth.
What did the bitterness matter now? The shadows that once clouded his mood vanished without a trace.
"Xiaobai, are you happy now?"
Her eyes sparkled; the lollipop must have been very sweet.
Looking at him, he certainly seemed happy.
Lu Yu took the lollipop out of his mouth, about to speak, when a girl suddenly ran over.
She grabbed Asi in her arms, looking at Lu Yu with wary eyes.
"Asi, class is about to start. Come with me."
He Meigui wrapped her arm around Asi and led her toward the school. She was strong, giving Asi no chance to resist.
Because it was Meigui, Asi didn’t want to push her away. She simply turned her head and waved to Lu Yu, who was still standing there. "Goodbye!"
Her silly, sweet expression made the corner of Lu Yu’s mouth curve upward.
He put the lollipop back in his mouth.
Then he clicked his tongue.
Damn, it was sweet.
His heart felt like it was melting.
"Asi, didn’t I tell you before? Lu Yu isn’t a good person—he’s really bad!" He Meigui whispered urgently in Asi’s ear, her eyes full of worry. Asi was so cute and obedient, why was she standing with Lu Yu?
He Meigui didn’t even dare imagine—what if Lu Yu hit Asi?
"He’s not bad," Asi said, pressing her lips together, a little unhappy. Though Meigui was her good friend, Xiaobai was different—he was someone truly important to her.
"Are you just fooled by his looks? I’m telling you, besides being good-looking, he’s useless! And really bad..."
The more He Meigui talked, the more animated she became, not noticing Asi’s face growing serious beside her.
"Meigui, stop talking about him, or I’ll get angry."
The dimples at the corners of her mouth deepened as she pressed her lips together, and her dark eyes shimmered with tears of grievance.
He Meigui’s brows knitted together; she quickly pulled Asi close, apologizing, "Alright, alright, I won’t say anything about him. But you have to be careful."
She really was worried about her.
Lu Yu was simply terrifying—even someone as rebellious as He Meigui couldn’t handle how frightening he was.
"He’s really nice, not bad at all!"
To Asi, Xiaobai was wonderful in every way.
Except that he had pushed her off the Wheel of Reincarnation—but...
He had jumped after her, too. So in Asi’s heart, the current Xiaobai was still good in every way; even pushing her off the Wheel of Reincarnation was no longer a fault.
