Chapter 155: The Young General and the Handsome Emperor (8)
"Really?"
Yan Ancheng suddenly looked up at Asu, his dark eyes shimmering with starlight and a faint trace of trepidation. He was terrified that Asu might refuse him.
Asu nodded earnestly. Picking up the ointment from the side, she said, "Your Highness, you have so many wounds on your body. If they aren't treated, they will leave many scars."
The soldier who had come to relay the message had not only mentioned that Yan Ancheng wanted to see Asu, but also described how difficult the prince was to serve. Despite the numerous wounds on his body, he refused to apply medicine, choosing instead to simply soak in the water to wash them. The blood flowing from his wounds had dyed the water red, yet the Fourth Prince merely knitted his brows with a pale face, not letting out a single sound.
"Will you..." Yan Ancheng lowered his head, his gaze immediately falling upon the various large and small scars on his exposed arms. A flicker of gloom passed through his dark eyes as he asked, "Will you be repulsed?"
"Huh?" Asu, holding the ointment, looked over, appearing quite puzzled. She said seriously, "Your Highness, if wounds aren't treated properly, they will hurt."
She tilted her head and thought for a moment, assuming that the Fourth Prince must be afraid of the pain, which was why he didn't want to apply the ointment. So, she quietly took a small packet of malt sugar from her pocket.
The young girl carefully retrieved a piece of the candy. Her dark, almond-shaped eyes looked at Yan Ancheng, blinking incessantly.
"Don't worry, I will apply it very, very gently. And, you know..." Asu glanced cautiously behind her to ensure Wei Jingyu wasn't peeking, then leaned in closer and whispered, "If you eat this, it won't hurt anymore. It's very sweet."
Yan Ancheng watched the youth before him, his heart suddenly beginning to race. The girl's fair, delicate fingers were right in front of him. For reasons unknown, Yan Ancheng suddenly leaned forward and took the candy directly from Asu's fingers with his mouth.
Seeing how obedient Yan Ancheng was, Asu squinted her eyes in delight. However, a moment later, her cheeks flushed a deep red. Yan Ancheng stared blankly at Asu, his eyes clouded with mist.
Asu finished applying the ointment to all of Yan Ancheng's wounds. Feeling as though she had completed an arduous task, she let out a long sigh of relief.
"Your Highness, I was right, wasn't I? I was very, very gentle. Once the ointment is on your wounds, they will heal quickly."
Yan Ancheng lay prone on the bed, turning his head to look at the youth beside him. A flash of gloom darted through his eyes—like a poisonous snake long hidden in the shadows, waiting for the right moment to drag its prey into the darkness.
"Asu, what are you doing!"
A man's voice suddenly rang out. It was Wei Jingyu.
Asu immediately straightened her back and said obediently, "His Highness has wounds on his body, and I am applying medicine for him."
Wei Jingyu looked at Yan Ancheng, who was lying on the bed in disarray, and a surge of anger flared in his heart.
"You are applying medicine for His Highness? Where have all the army doctors gone? Is it necessary for you to be the one to apply medicine for him?"
Wei Jingyu glared at Asu. Even without him saying it, Asu could guess what he wanted to scold her for: "Where have your sense of propriety, righteousness, integrity, and shame gone?"
