Chapter 126: [Fairy Tale] He Has a Little Gray Wolf (51)
Asi stood on the wall, her brow clearly furrowing when she heard Mrs. Griffin mention guns. Her tail pressed tightly against her body. She had never seen such things, though she had heard celestial friends speak of them back in the Heavenly Palace. They spoke of how rapidly times were changing, how mortals no longer needed swords or knives for battle—a single bullet or bomb could annihilate an entire army. Asi had been engrossed in writing fate charts in her room at the time and hadn’t paid much attention. Such weapons must be formidable. She had to run fast.
She had barely taken a few steps when something whizzed past her tail. The destructive power of that thing must be immense. Sure enough, there was a loud bang. Turning her head at the sound, Asi saw that the wall of Mrs. Griffin’s house had been pierced. Then countless bullets came flying toward Asi.
Startled, Asi’s fur bristled. "Tantan, what is that? It’s so terrifying!"
“Asi, get out of the way quickly! This is a new kind of human weapon. How can people in this world have them too? Though a bit outdated, they’re still very powerful!”
No sooner had Tantan spoken than a bullet pierced through its body—but since it had no physical form, it had nothing to fear. Poor Asi, however, had never encountered such powerful things here. She had nowhere to run, nowhere to place her feet.
“Hmph! You wicked wolf, prepare to meet your end!” Asi grew desperate, her fur standing on end.
If she didn’t flee, she’d be riddled with bullets. She glanced downward—only Mrs. Griffin held a gun. A wave of grievance welled up inside her. Why treat her like this? She hadn’t done anything wrong.
Wailing, Asi lifted her head and howled at the full moon. Then she suddenly turned and lunged toward Mrs. Griffin. The massive wolf’s body blocked the light before Mrs. Griffin’s eyes. A bullet tore through Asi’s body with a bang. Crimson blood flowed freely. It hurt terribly. Asi felt tears welling up.
Angrily, she opened her mouth and stomped her paw on Mrs. Griffin’s gun-holding hand. She bit down hard on Mrs. Griffin’s arm, ceasing only when the metallic taste of blood filled her mouth. Her dark eyes glowed with a cold light. With a sharp swipe of her claw, she wrenched the gun from Mrs. Griffin’s grip. The pointed nails dug into Mrs. Griffin’s arm, tearing open veins and drawing blood.
“You wicked wolf, you won’t get away with this!”
Asi gripped tightly with her claws. Her black eyes grew misty. The blood on her body splattered over Mrs. Griffin. The wolf’s mournful, aggrieved howl echoed through all of Red Hood Town.
Then Asi turned and fled swiftly. Her earlier howl would surely have been heard by the knights. Wounded as she was, she stood no chance against so many—they would only be her death. Asi cast a lingering glance at Ryder’s house, then quietly slipped inside. Despite the pain, she grabbed a piece of date cake and ran off.
Tantan looked at Asi in surprise. “Hey! Why are you eating at a time like this?” Asi ran quickly, leaving a trail of blood. The date cake was already swallowed. She said pitifully, “Tantan, my body hurts so much. If I don’t eat, the pain will be worse.”
Tantan looked beneath Asi; the fur there was stained bright red. Tears welled in Asi’s eyes from the pain. So pitiful. At that moment, Tantan silently vowed never to speak ill of Asi again.
Me: Asi, you’re very strong, right?
Asi: Mm-hmm.
Me: Then I... bang bang bang!
Asi: (collapses) Ah! I’m dead.
Me: End of the performance, hand over your tickets!
