Chapter 154 Xinjiekou
"Yuexian, the goods have arrived right at my doorstep. If you have time later, just come over and take a look at the house."
Upon receiving Liu Yuexian's call, Shen Guodong arranged the time for her right away.
"What is it, brother-in-law? You're not expecting me to sell this all by myself, are you?"
Hearing this, Shen Guodong furrowed his brows and said, "Of course not. See if you can find someone to go with you."
Finding someone to go with her meant she couldn't quite figure out the logistics either. She quickly searched her mind, realizing she didn't really have anyone she could fully trust, especially since this business was a guaranteed profit with no risk of losing money.
Liu Yuexian suggested on the other end, "How about this? I'll just call my sister over, and the two of us can go sell together."
Shen Guodong frowned again and replied, "How about this instead? I'll send two other people over to watch the ground there. You two can handle the selling and collect the money."
After all, if two women were to sell such a wildly popular product on the streets, it would undoubtedly become quite dangerous if anyone grew envious or harbored malicious intentions. It would be best to send a couple of men over from Baldy's crew to help out.
He hurried downstairs to find Baldy, who readily agreed without hesitation, "Alright, I'll dispatch two big, strong fellows over there."
Shen Guodong skipped work and rushed back home accompanied by the two strong men.
Since it was a weekday, Liu Yueru was still in class, so Shen Guodong didn't bother her. He brought Liu Yuexian straight to the front courtyard and said, "There's still an evening peak hour coming up today. Let's start by taking about a hundred sets over."
Liu Yuexian exclaimed, "Brother-in-law, a hundred sets? Can we really sell all of that?"
"They'll definitely sell, it's just a matter of time. Let's go, let's push this small handcart over."
They arrived at their previous spot on XinjieKou, though foot traffic was much lighter today than it had been before.
With Shen Guodong standing by as support and two bodyguards nearby, they quickly set up the clothing racks and hung the garments.
Immediately, the surrounding neighbors noticed the arrival of the Hong Kong-style clothes they had seen on the previous occasion.
A few people rushed out onto the street, calling out, "Oh, the clothes are back! Are these imported items from last time again?"
Liu Yuexian eagerly stepped forward to explain, "These were custom-made for us from Guangzhou, and they are exact one-to-one replicas of the styles from Hong Kong."
Naturally, this crowd didn't yet understand what a "one-to-one replica" meant, but someone chimed in, "Oh, yes, absolutely! I saw clothes just like this on television."
At once, the eyes of the young mothers lit up with excitement.
They had deeply regretted missing out last time when those college students had snapped everything up. Now, seeing that none of the college students were around, they anxiously demanded, "No, no! I want some! Hey boss, do you have any discounts this time?"
Hearing this, Liu Yuexian shook her head and replied, "The past couple of days were just our trial operations. Today marks our official launch, so while there are still discounts, they won't be as big as last time!"
"That's fine, that's fine! I saw a young girl wearing one the other day, and oh, she looked so pretty. I think she even made it into the Fengcheng newspaper; I'm pretty sure I saw her."
Several women began chattering animatedly. After all, a group of three women made a crowd, and these stay-at-home mothers had very little to occupy their time aside from reading newspapers, raising children, and cooking meals.
Moreover, since their husbands worked in factories, their household incomes were quite decent, leaving them with plenty of leisure time.
Seeing the mothers chatting away, Liu Yuexian chimed in, "Oh, dear sisters, what are you hesitating for? Look at this floral little dress I'm wearing. Does it look good?"
Upon hearing this, the mothers nodded in unison. "Good-looking, it looks so good! Wearing this out makes you look adorable and takes years off your age."
Liu Yuexian nodded and said, "Of course! These clothes are the absolute trendiest items right now, the kind only female celebrities get to wear. You should hurry up and buy them so your husbands will look at you with fresh eyes."
This remark prompted an immediate flurry of lively chatter from the group. "It's true! The old man at home acts like he wants to run and hide from me the moment he looks at me lately."
"Oh, you've got it easy compared to me. My husband comes home every single night complaining about how exhausted he is, ugh, completely killing the mood."
Listening to the mothers' uninhibited discussion from the sidelines, Shen Guodong couldn't help but marvel at how bold married women could be. Were all veteran mothers this open-spoken?
Though usually quite spirited, Liu Yuexian was still just a young girl at heart. Hearing the subtle undertones of the mothers' conversation, her face flushed red as she stammered, "Hey, what are you all talking about? We're here to sell clothes, clothes!"
Since they were here to shop rather than get sidetracked, the women quickly agreed, "Alright, alright, let's get back to business. This dress is so pretty, I want to buy a few more pieces."
Seeing the conversation return to normal, Liu Yuexian nodded and said, "Don't worry, we have quite a wide variety of clothing styles today—around twenty different kinds. You can browse through them yourselves. There are more inside the handcart that I haven't taken out yet due to limited space."
"We have all kinds of styles. If you stand close, you can take a good look. You can buy them and try them on at home first, just don't remove the price tags. If the sizing isn't right, you can exchange them."
"Let's establish the rules clearly first, right? We'll be setting up our stall here regularly from now on. If you want any new styles, or if you see something you like in Hong Kong movies or films, you can come and describe it to us, and we can even custom-make it for you."
These were all things Shen Guodong had taught Liu Yuexian on the walk over, and she recited them word for word.
Upon hearing this, the mothers asked in astonishment, "Really? You can even do custom tailoring? Won't that be quite expensive?"
"Custom tailoring just means your own D.I.Y.—for instance, if you want to embroider a little dragon here, or add a small flower, or change the color or variety of the flower."
"All of that can be arranged. Of course, the price might be just a tiny bit higher, but it's all for the sake of convenience and having it your own way."
Shen Guodong didn't utter a single extra word, merely watching as the usually chatty girl delivered her advertising pitch as smoothly as a little swallow.
Before long, the passersby at XinjieKou were all drawn in by the commotion.
Hesitating no longer, one of the mothers said, "Alright, then take this one down for me. This little vest looks rather nice."
At this, Shen Guodong turned to look. Goodness gracious, wasn't that the classic vest paired with a white shirt style popular among Hong Kong starlets?
When athletic female stars wore such an outfit, it could be described as exceptionally alluring, and combined with those form-fitting athletic leggings, it was simply irresistible.
