Chapter 126: I Won't Sell if You Buy Too Little
"Wait, Director Shen, you're actually planning to go into business?" Wang Chengliang asked, looking completely bewildered.
Shen Guodong, no longer concerned about Wang’s mockery, replied, "It seems like a business opportunity, so I want to give it a try. Besides, even if I can't sell them, I can give them to my wife and family. You can never have too many clothes, right?"
Upon hearing this, Wang Chengliang became animated again. "Sure! If you're interested, Director Shen, that’s no problem at all. I’ll get my cousin’s phone number for you, and you can talk to him directly."
Wang Chengliang clearly didn't have much money, and he was the type who preferred stability. Since he had finally found a steady job, he certainly didn't want to jeopardize it. After discussing the matter, the two had a few more drinks before heading home.
The next morning, Shen Guodong woke up with a pounding headache from the hangover. The feeling was miserable. He held his head and stumbled toward the kitchen to find something to drink.
Liu Yueru’s voice drifted over. "Wang Chengliang brought you home last night. Why did you drink so much?"
Shen Guodong shook his head and groaned, "Ah, I couldn't help it. It just happened."
Seeing how much pain Shen Guodong was in, Liu Yueru walked over with a bowl of hangover tea. "I brewed this for you as soon as I woke up. It’s the perfect temperature to drink now."
Looking at the steaming bowl of tea, Shen Guodong felt a sudden, profound stir in his heart. In his past life, he had been a CEO of a large group, and drinking and socializing were as routine as daily meals. Whenever he woke up with a hangover, it was always in a hotel room, surrounded by messy clothes, often with a beautiful model in his arms. Yet, in all those years, no one had ever specially woken up early to brew him hangover tea. He felt genuinely moved.
He stood up, pulled Liu Yueru into an embrace, and said, "Wife, it’s so good to have you."
Liu Yueru, finding him clinging to her early in the morning, pushed him away. "Ugh, you stink! Go on, drink the tea to sober up, then go take a shower. You reek of alcohol, and you have to go to work soon."
Shen Guodong checked the time and realized it was only 7:00 AM. "Ugh, I want to lie down for a bit longer," he muttered.
Liu Yueru looked at him, half-amused and half-exasperated, as if he were a child. "It’s 8:00 AM soon! Even if you are a director now, you still have to go to work and set a good example."
She continued to lecture him with earnest concern. If Shen Guodong didn't know for a fact that he had no masochistic tendencies, he might have started to doubt himself—the feeling of being cared for like this was surprisingly pleasant.
After struggling in bed for a while, Shen Guodong finally got up and drank the tea. The effect was immediate.
"I’ve made breakfast for you," Liu Yueru said. "I have to head to work now; we have a staff meeting this morning, so I need to go in a bit early."
As Shen Guodong showered in the bathroom, he shouted, "Alright, wife! Go ahead, stay safe on the road!"
Watching his childlike behavior, Liu Yueru smiled, thinking that life finally had something to look forward to. As a regular elementary school teacher, she still held traditional, conservative values in high regard.
Shen Guodong finished getting ready and walked out the door exactly at 8:00 AM. When he arrived at the factory, he saw Zhou Meiniang already waiting at the gate.
"Why are you here so early?" Shen Guodong asked, surprised.
Zhou Meiniang turned slightly red. "Well, about the planning... My cousin and I came early to start working on it. We’re aiming to finish the proposal today. It’s just a rough draft, of course."
Shen Guodong shook his head. "There's no need to rush like that. Just show me what you have when you're done. Baldy is still finding people, and this is a big project for the factory."
"I know, but I don't want to delay your schedule."
Seeing how dedicated she was, Shen Guodong didn't push it further. He reminded her to take care of her health and headed into his office. He immediately contacted the warehouse manager to arrange for a phone line to be extended from his office to his home. Of course, he told himself, it was for the sake of work, not just for convenience.
He also contacted the local telecommunications department and had Xu Haishan pull some strings with the Urban Construction Bureau to get the line installed at his house. Naturally, as a man of his current status, Shen Guodong didn't have to pay a dime; Baldy covered all the costs.
Baldy had gathered all his "brothers" together. With a single word from Shen Guodong, they could transport workers over by bus at any time. Baldy had plenty of men under his command, all under the guise of working for a "demolition company."
Once everything was settled, Shen Guodong met with Wang Chengliang. Trembling slightly, Wang handed over the phone number. "Director Shen, this is my cousin’s number. Sometimes he doesn't pick up, and long-distance calls are very expensive."
Shen Guodong didn't care about the cost; he could afford a few minutes of long-distance fees. In his office, he dialed the number for Huadu. After several transfers, the line connected.
"Hello? Who is this?"
Wang Chengliang took the phone. "Hey, Cousin, it’s me, Chengliang."
"Oh, Chengliang! What’s up? Have you thought about it? Did you call to tell me you’ve quit your job and are coming to Huadu to join me?" His cousin sounded excited, eager to bring him over.
Wang Chengliang cleared his throat. "No, it's not that. Look, Cousin, I have a workshop director here who wants to know if he can purchase some clothes from you to wholesale back here."
The cousin’s tone turned enthusiastic instantly. "Oh, you want to wholesale from me? What’s his minimum order? We don't usually deal with small quantities."
Wang Chengliang frantically signaled to Shen Guodong, mouthing, "One hundred sets! One hundred sets!"
