Chapter 103: Wang Chengzhi Is Dissatisfied!
The other factories had come with a crowd of a dozen or more each.
At Factory One, however, only Shen Guodong and Zhou Meiniang were there.
Of course, the bald man had also been called over by Shen Guodong.
He was merely an unofficial extra.
When they saw the people from Factory Three daring to threaten Shen Guodong here, the bald man and a few of his brothers immediately got to their feet. Though they were far fewer in number, they looked fierce, and since they were underworld men, just seeing them was enough to make people feel a chill of fear.
The bald man rose at once.
“Fighting isn’t about numbers. If you don’t believe me, we can try it. I can still take on all of you useless creatures on my own,” he said with a cold laugh.
The savage aura around him filled people with a nameless sense of dread.
He had been in the game for years.
He might not have taken a life, but crippling people was something he had done more than once.
With a toothpick in his mouth, he picked at his teeth, utterly brazen.
The other brothers remained seated at the table, but even without moving, their eyes said enough. The people around them all instinctively shrank back a little.
The men from Factory Three fell silent at once.
Each of them drew in his neck, looking wary and afraid.
There was no need to mention Wang Chengzhi.
He was the sort of man who was timid and afraid of trouble to begin with.
How could he dare say more now?
“This is a society ruled by law. Why are the people from your Factory One behaving like thugs?” Wang Chengzhi said when intimidation failed and he tried to reason instead.
That was the funniest part of all. Shen Guodong gave a contemptuous smile and said, “That’s our business, none of your concern. If I were sitting here alone today, would you still be talking reason with me?
“So... I don’t want to say any more. Either fight, or get lost! You think you’re worthy of talking reason with us?”
Wang Chengzhi’s face flushed dark red.
He could only glare at Shen Guodong in hatred, but with the bald man and the others watching him like hungry wolves, he did not dare say another word.
“Hmph. What’s so arrogant about you? This order will definitely be ours, and by then your Factory One may well be merged into mine!” Wang Chengzhi said coldly.
That was indeed possible.
Four factories were too bloated.
Using this opportunity, the higher-ups were likely to cut them down to two, and those would most likely be Factory One and Factory Two.
Unless those two factories could win that major order, they would not be able to escape the fate of being merged.
That was an undeniable fact.
Because of that, the leadership above was paying especially close attention.
That was why Manager Xu had sent Shen Guodong here, holding on to the desperate hope that a dying horse could still be treated as a living one. Only by doing that could he preserve his current position.
Otherwise, once his factory was merged into someone else’s, how could he still remain deputy manager?
Not to mention that Manager Xu was planning to be promoted to the top post.
Then there would be even less chance of anything, and that much was beyond doubt.
Wang Chengzhi left in unwilling anger.
Most of those present were people from the other factories.
The scene here had already stirred a great deal of discussion among them.
“Factory One is so arrogant now!”
“They’re about to be merged anyway. Why don’t they hurry up and flatter the people from Factories Three and Four? Maybe they could still land a decent position.”
“Exactly. Curry favor with them now, and once they’re over there, they might get assigned a good post and live a much easier life.”
“Offending them now, they may end up laid off later and become unemployed drifters.”
“They’ve practically smashed their own iron rice bowls with their own hands. I really didn’t see that coming... There are all kinds of people in this world. I have no idea where they get the nerve.”
“Honestly, it’s ridiculous. What right do they have to pull something like this? Of course it was inevitable...”
“Some people really have no idea what kind of situation they’re in.”
“Does the world really have such idiots? I simply don’t understand what those guys were thinking!”
Everyone spoke one after another.
Yet in Shen Guodong’s eyes, all of that was laughably absurd. There seemed to be nothing more amusing than such words.
He had no idea where they got the certainty that Factory One was going to be merged.
Had the higher-ups issued any order yet?
If not, then nothing was settled.
Those people probably still did not know that the order had already fallen into Shen Guodong’s hands, and that no one could shake his position now. That was inevitable.
A smile appeared on his face at the thought.
But since the mouth was on other people’s faces, he had no right to interfere.
What was certain, however, was that these people would be thoroughly slapped in the face.
Thinking of that, Shen Guodong actually began to look forward to the expression on their faces when they learned the final result at the bidding meeting later.
“A bunch of cowards.”
Seeing how spineless the people from Factory Three were, all talk and no action, the bald man sat back down and said irritably.
Shen Guodong smiled. “The mouth is on someone else’s face. Let them say whatever they like.”
Zhou Meiniang glanced at Shen Guodong. “Did I cause you trouble again? I’m sorry.”
“What are you talking about?” Shen Guodong stared at her and said a little impatiently, “If you’re simply too charming, how is that your fault? Besides, if this counts as trouble, then aren’t you thinking too highly of that little punk? To me, he’s no more than a jumping clown. As for trouble, he’s nowhere near that level.”
Shen Guodong would never take such a man seriously.
At that moment, a smile still lingered on his face.
“You don’t need to care so much. Since you’re my woman, I’ll naturally protect you completely. If I can’t even do that, what right do I have to win your heart? Don’t you think so?”
At those words, Zhou Meiniang shyly nodded.
Who could hear something like that and not feel their heart flutter?
She was even more so.
The bald man and the others on the side were left staring in stunned silence.
They could not help but give him a thumbs-up.
“I say, Brother Shen, you’re amazing!” the bald man said. “When you have time, teach me a few lines for chasing girls. I, Baldy, have never even had a proper romance in my life. If not for having made a bit of money, I wouldn’t even have been able to find a wife.”
He did, at least, have a very honest sense of self-awareness.
Shen Guodong laughed as well. “Money is enough. As for love... Bald Brother, I’m afraid that’s just not in the cards for you.”
“I say, Brother Shen, you don’t have to put it so bluntly, do you? I may be a little ugly, but I’ve got a gentle heart. Surely that should count for something with women!” the bald man said, somewhat indignant.
Of course, in this era, being hardworking and gentle could still win a woman’s heart.
But in the future... that would no longer be enough.
There would only be two kinds of men: those with money, and those who were handsome.
