Chapter 28: The Perfect Accident
Liu Jianming was deeply agitated.
As the general manager of the Huizhong Grand Hotel, Liu Jianming was a prominent figure in Tianhai. Yet, the events of yesterday had left him restless and uneasy. Agitated as he was, Liu Jianming now sat motionless, afraid to move. He was waiting to be summoned.
The entire room was silent.
After a while, a man entered.
Liu Jianming immediately stood up and greeted respectfully, “Young Master Hai!”
“Sit,” Young Master Hai ordered, settling onto the sofa.
Liu Jianming dared not sit, keeping his head lowered.
“Didn't you hear me? I told you to sit!” Young Master Hai glanced at the standing Liu Jianming, frowning slightly.
“I was wrong, Young Master Hai!” Liu Jianming finally sat down, but only halfway, his posture cautious and apologetic.
Liu Jianming knew all too well the methods of Young Master Hai. Fear gripped him entirely.
“Wrong? Where were you wrong?” Young Master Hai’s voice was cold.
“I shouldn't have let Wu Hao try to stop them,” Liu Jianming answered carefully.
“Hmph…” Young Master Hai snorted, saying, “What did I tell you? We can provide them a place to stay, and protect them from being discovered if necessary. Did I promise anything else?”
“No,” Liu Jianming replied in a soft voice.
“Then why did you have Wu Hao try to block them?” Young Master Hai’s voice suddenly rose, his gaze sinister as he looked at Liu Jianming.
“I was wrong, Young Master Hai!” Liu Jianming hastily admitted his mistake.
“Wu Hao is my piece out in the open! He takes the money, we keep our distance. It’s a good business. Why give Wu Hao those hints? Can you guarantee Wu Hao’s mouth hasn’t been pried open? If Wu Hao exposes you, won’t they come looking for you? And you… would you expose me?” Young Master Hai’s tone grew increasingly chilling.
“No, Wu Hao doesn’t know I’m connected to them too!” Liu Jianming explained, “I hinted very subtly.”
“Subtle? Nonsense! You were careless!” Young Master Hai’s tone was still grim. “Seems you’ve already answered my question—if they come for you, you’ll expose me!”
“No… Young Master Hai, I absolutely won’t! Never!” Liu Jianming broke out in cold sweat, hurriedly pledging his loyalty.
“You’d better not! You know what would happen if you talk. You and your family would have no good ending!” Young Master Hai threatened.
“Yes, Young Master Hai!” Liu Jianming kept his head down, certain of this. If he dared betray Young Master Hai, Young Master Hai would truly kill his whole family.
“Be smarter in the future. Anyone who can find them quietly on our side is someone we can’t afford to cross! Even if they suspect us, it won’t be their main concern. The real issue is finding who’s behind them—that’s not our business. Liu Jianming, I’m telling you again, keep your mouth shut!” Young Master Hai warned.
“I understand, Young Master Hai!” Liu Jianming paused, then said, “The other side has contacted me, asking if something happened. They intercepted the last payment.”
“Just tell them an irresistible force intervened! Their people have failed. As for the money, don’t worry about it… Observe their reaction, and if necessary, cut off cooperation!” Young Master Hai said in a low voice.
“But… if they retaliate?” Liu Jianming knew well what kind of organization he was dealing with.
“Retaliate? Hahaha, let them try in Tianhai!” Young Master Hai’s face was murderous, his voice low and threatening. “Remember, no one is allowed to act recklessly in Tianhai, especially foreign organizations!”
“Understood!” Liu Jianming was never clear on how much hidden power Young Master Hai controlled, but he knew Young Master Hai was formidable.
“Go now!” Young Master Hai waved his hand.
Liu Jianming respectfully backed away before leaving.
Young Master Hai curled up on the sofa.
Working with the assassin organization, providing their people with shelter, was only part of the collaboration. Young Master Hai used the assassin group for targeted killings. But now, clearly, a powerful force was tracking the organization.
This made Young Master Hai hesitant about continuing the partnership.
The crux was, he couldn’t yet identify the nature of this powerful force.
What Young Master Hai feared most was those mysterious and formidable powers at the top...
“We’ll wait and see. Some loose ends need to be dealt with quickly! Such overt cooperation… can’t happen again!” Young Master Hai murmured, resolving instantly. He picked up his phone and made a call.
Liu Jianming drove home, anxiety mounting as he recalled hinting to Wu Hao. The threat from Young Master Hai filled him with terror, but also deep worry.
Did Wu Hao really throw the blame on him?
If so—
What then?
A chill ran through Liu Jianming.
He instantly understood why Young Master Hai had stressed the possibility of him being exposed.
So whose mouth was truly the tightest?
Without a doubt, only the four of them.
Liu Jianming grabbed his phone, intending to call home and warn his wife and child to leave Tianhai. He himself needed to leave as well—
Escape this place of trouble!
Now Liu Jianming felt that his involvement in Young Master Hai’s secrets was a mistake from the start.
Just as Liu Jianming took out his phone—
A large truck suddenly sped out from a side street, running the red light.
But that wasn’t the worst—the truck crashed directly into Liu Jianming’s car!
“Young Master Hai!” was all Liu Jianming could think as darkness enveloped him.
A perfectly staged accident… The truck driver was taken away by the arriving traffic police.
As long as the driver insisted it was an accident, everything would be considered accidental.
He Tian waited near Liu Jianming’s house.
Huizhong Grand Hotel’s general manager Liu Jianming!
He was also connected to the assassin organization!
And the Huizhong Grand Hotel was Young Master Hai’s property, making He Tian suspect Young Master Hai’s involvement. If so, was the assassination attempt the other night linked to Young Master Hai?
He Tian wanted answers.
But now, the most important thing was to pry open Liu Jianming’s mouth.
As for Young Master Hai… his identity was special. Even a Dragon Soul member like He Tian couldn’t act rashly.
Yet what puzzled He Tian was that it was past midnight, and Liu Jianming hadn’t returned home.
He Tian was patient, but Liu Jianming’s late return contradicted his expectations.
A car approached in the distance.
But He Tian frowned—it was a police car, sirens blaring.
He watched as a group of officers entered Liu Jianming’s home, then escorted a weeping, grief-stricken woman and a young boy into the police car.
He Tian’s brows furrowed tightly.
He followed at a distance.
But the police didn’t head to the station.
They went to the traffic bureau.
In the courtyard, He Tian saw a large truck and a shattered Audi.
And the crying woman and child.
He Tian quietly withdrew.
Liu Jianming was dead.
He Tian was certain.
Clearly, the other side already knew He Tian might learn about Liu Jianming from Wu Hao.
They knew He Tian would seek out Liu Jianming.
So they silenced him first.
And Liu Jianming must have known quite a lot.
Was it the assassin organization? Or Young Master Hai himself?
He Tian’s trail had gone cold.
After thinking for a while, He Tian quietly returned to Liu Jianming's home.
But it was already cordoned off.
He Tian frowned again.
But was an accident enough to warrant a full cordon?
He Tian didn’t regard the police as a threat, but after all, they were his own people. He wouldn’t act against them.
He could only drive away, heading straight to the Huizhong Grand Hotel.
The hotel sparkled with lights.
But He Tian saw several police cars parked out front.
“Would the assassin organization do this? Or did they kill someone and send information about Liu Jianming? Is Young Master Hai trying to erase all traces?” He Tian muttered.
In the end, he drove away.
He returned to the Wang family villa.
After parking, he entered the hall, where he saw Old Hu sitting on the sofa.
“Waiting for me?” He Tian walked over and sat opposite him.
“Is there anything you need my help with?” Old Hu looked at He Tian and asked.
“Not for now,” He Tian shook his head.
“If you need anything, just say so,” Old Hu paused, saying, “Your earlier warning made me think. There’s no such possibility within the Dragon Group.”
“Are you sure?” He Tian looked at Old Hu with interest.
“Absolutely,” Old Hu said in a low voice.
“Old Hu, I spent years in the Dragon Group myself… but I won’t be swayed by that. I have my own way of doing things,” He Tian grew serious.
“Alright, suit yourself…” Old Hu paused, speaking softly.
“I hope you and everyone in the shadows will protect the Wang sisters' safety. The investigation is my responsibility. If you discover anything, inform me at once,” He Tian said gravely.
Old Hu turned, watching He Tian.
He Tian now held a token in his palm.
Old Hu’s eyes lit up, his whole body tensed.
“I understand! I’ll cooperate fully!” Old Hu finally realized He Tian’s identity.
“Remember, just because you trust someone doesn’t mean you really can. Judge carefully—don’t let others lead you by the nose. Our people… always fall for this,” He Tian shook his head slightly.
“Do you… really believe the problem is internal?” Old Hu asked, unable to hold back.
“I can’t be certain… but everyone is under my investigation. That’s all, Old Hu… No offense. I just want to remind you—don’t let routine cloud your vision. Goodnight!” He Tian stood, slowly ascending the stairs.
Old Hu remained where he was, watching He Tian’s silhouette, lost in thought.
