Chapter 120: The Timid Cat and Ruth's Fierceness
“Here, Wukong! Have another piece!”
He Tian carried over a large plate of braised pork, watching as Wukong devoured it in big mouthfuls.
Though it looked rather strange for a monkey to eat meat in such a way, no one could treat Wukong as an ordinary monkey.
After all, the toll Wukong had taken to help He Tian was slowly being mended by these days of eating meat; his spirit was gradually recovering.
He Tian could still sense Wukong’s lingering weakness, but it was only temporary.
As long as Wukong’s condition improved little by little, everything would be fine. The guilt weighing on He Tian’s heart would also be somewhat alleviated.
“Xinrou, have you forgotten what I told you? Freedom—don’t let yourself be constrained! Adapt to your opponent! There’s no such thing as an absolute technique—moves can be changed! The most important thing is the skill of exerting force!” Even in the midst of all this, He Tian found time to loudly chide Wang Xinrou.
This was already her third attempt at mastering a new force-exerting technique. Wang Xinrou’s rapid progress delighted He Tian.
Most of the time, she was diligent and serious in her practice—this, more than anything else, was the key to her improvement.
Of course, if you asked He Tian, he’d say it was all due to his excellent teaching.
“Understood!” Wang Xinrou was always utterly obedient during martial training.
“Keep practicing!” Seeing Lazy Cat ambling over, He Tian stood up, gave Wang Xinrou a few words of encouragement, and then wandered over to the shaded pavilion on the beach, choosing a chair and sitting down with a smile.
“Catch!” Lazy Cat tossed He Tian a can of soda and sat down with the air of a king.
He Tian popped open the drink and took a few sips. Glancing around at the bustling work all around the villa, he sighed, “Looks like things will be a bit chaotic around here for a while.”
“Money makes the world go round! We’ll have it done in a month!” Lazy Cat replied with a laugh.
“But let’s be clear: that’s all the money there is. If it’s not enough, you’ll have to cover the rest!” He Tian said, feigning stinginess.
“Come on, Little Emperor, you’d better watch out or I’ll make this a shoddy construction!” Lazy Cat shot back indignantly.
“Don’t think I don’t know! Five hundred million—there’s no way you’ll need all that!” He Tian rolled his eyes. “Who knows how much you plan to skim off the top?”
“Little Emperor, you’d better explain yourself! Are you questioning my integrity? Am I that kind of person? Absolutely not!” Lazy Cat fumed. “That’s slander! No proof, pure slander!”
“So, dear Cat, how would one find proof?” He Tian teased, grinning.
“Get out of here! There’s nothing to find proof of!” Lazy Cat waved him off, looking for all the world like a paragon of virtue.
So this was a killer with a body count in the triple digits—yet now he was acting righteously… Truly one of a kind!
“Looks like I need to get someone to dig up some evidence,” He Tian said with a sly smile. Someone came to mind—she could surely find something, and then he’d have a good excuse to teach this shameless killer a lesson.
“Who?” Lazy Cat’s face was wary, a bad feeling gnawing at him.
“Ruth,” He Tian replied with a soft chuckle.
“Oh hell, Little Emperor, just kill me now!” Lazy Cat groaned in agony. “I confess! I admit everything!”
“Out with it!” He Tian was thoroughly amused.
“I really haven’t stolen a cent! According to the budget, I actually have to pay three hundred thousand out of my own pocket, just to speed things up! The original schedule was three months, but I’ve cut it down to one!” Lazy Cat said earnestly.
“Cat, you should front even more! We’re not just looking for functionality here—we need beauty, too! Think about it, this is going to be our home! Do you get what home means? Stunning, absolutely stunning!” He Tian smiled. “But back to Ruth, we all know her intentions! Why can’t you accept her? I swear, she’s a wonderful girl! You’d be a fool to let her slip away!”
“I should be asking you! Isn’t Ruth your old flame? Hasn’t she always liked you? How come she’s set her sights on me now?” Lazy Cat looked utterly crestfallen, not even interested in his drink.
“Who told you that? Ruth and I have been through life and death together, sure, but there’s nothing improper between us! If that’s your concern, Cat, I have to look down on you!” He Tian said, uncharacteristically serious.
“Really?” Lazy Cat eyed him with suspicion.
“Of course it’s true!” He Tian replied sternly.
“Still, I can’t do it!” Lazy Cat pleaded, “Can’t you just sacrifice yourself and lure Ruth away?”
“Cat, that’s beyond me. I think you should just give in and accept Ruth!” He Tian chuckled, his face full of mischievous delight.
“No way!” Lazy Cat said, resolute.
“You really think you can resist? I’d love to see how long you hold out!” He Tian patted him on the shoulder.
“Sigh,” Lazy Cat muttered, “Maybe I should just run away. I can’t stay here anymore!”
“Well, I won’t stop you! Really, Cat, if you leave, we’re still brothers. I swear, I won’t hold it against you!” He Tian said with utmost seriousness.
“Damn it, Little Emperor, could you at least smile when you say that? Saying it so seriously creeps me out!” Lazy Cat grumbled. “Hell, I’m actually starting to enjoy this peaceful life! Going out at night, a bit of freedom… I can’t bear to leave!”
“There you go, then!” He Tian laughed.
“I must preserve my chastity!” Lazy Cat muttered softly.
He Tian rolled his eyes—well, Lazy Cat really was one of a kind!
Some people just don’t know how lucky they are!
Being chased by a beauty like Ruth—what could be better? And yet Lazy Cat acted as if it were a death sentence. Truly disgraceful for men everywhere!
“Is Ugly in closed-door training? It’s so noisy, make sure we don’t disturb him,” He Tian frowned, glancing at the busy construction site.
“He’s in the basement, no problem,” Lazy Cat sighed. “Fifth level inner strength… Damn, if I hadn’t been injured, maybe I’d have had a shot at fifth level myself!”
“Cat, when the time comes, I’ll get you a Supreme Rejuvenation Pill!” He Tian patted him on the shoulder.
“Really?” Lazy Cat’s eyes lit up, filled with excitement.
“Of course! But these things can’t be rushed. It’ll take time,” He Tian replied with a smile.
“I know! I can wait! Damn it, it’s been three years already—what’s a little longer?” Lazy Cat grumbled, but the excitement was hard to hide from his face.
He Tian smiled to himself.
He remembered the Dragon Head had once mentioned he had some Supreme Rejuvenation Pills. He wasn’t sure how many, but as long as there was one, he’d try to get it.
Just one was enough—for Lazy Cat, it would heal the wounds he’d been carrying for three years, and then he could aim for the fifth level of inner strength again.
“Damn… Why is she here? Little Emperor, I’m out of here! I have to supervise the workers! With so much going on, safety is paramount—I need to keep an eye on things myself!” Seeing Shinfeng and Ruth approaching, Lazy Cat, in an uncharacteristically cowardly move, took off at once.
He even tried to sneak away, afraid to face Ruth head-on.
“Haha, Ruth, look at you! Your power is something else!” He Tian laughed as he welcomed Ruth and Shinfeng into the pavilion.
“Let him run! Last night, I finally managed to get his door open, but he wouldn’t let me into his bed!” Ruth laughed. “But I believe I’ll succeed in the end!”
Indeed, Ruth was nothing if not formidable!
“I believe in you, Ruth! I can’t wait to see you succeed—and to see you tame that cat! I look forward to watching him squirm!” Shinfeng laughed.
“As you wish!” Ruth said cheerfully.
“All right, Ruth, did you meet with Meng Yang yesterday?” He Tian asked. “How did it go?”
“I’m certain that right now, if he wants to sell Haisheng Supermarket quickly, I’m his only option!” Ruth smiled. “So yesterday, I gave him an offer—1.5 billion. He was furious… stormed off in a rage.”
“One and a half billion! Considering Haisheng Supermarket’s total value is over two billion, you really cut a hefty chunk off the price. I must say, I’m impressed! But do you think it’ll go through?”
“I’m sure it will. Though we’ll have to pay several tens of millions under the table. Meng Yang won’t be able to resist. In fact, we could probably push the price even lower! After all, we’re not the ones in a hurry.” Ruth winked and smiled slyly.
“Well, the lower the price, the better,” He Tian said, turning to Shinfeng. “Has Meng Yang been in touch with you?”
“He has! We haven’t met yet, but I’ll see him this morning. Tongda Auto Repair is valued at about 1.5 billion. I’m going to offer him one billion. He’ll want cash, and who has more cash than us? Boss, you’ve got He Jiansheng right where you want him. As for Meng Yang… he’s showing signs of betrayal. I plan to use that to our advantage.”
“Good!” He Tian smiled. “In any case, I’m leaving all this to you. Stretch out the timeline—no deal until the fifth day, understand?”
“Don’t worry, Boss! With something this fun, how could we possibly forget the rules? Your main business won’t be delayed!” Shinfeng laughed.
Indeed, to Shinfeng, this was all a game.
But he’d have to act like a successful businessman—who knew if his style would cause any problems?
Still, since He Tian had already decided to entrust this task to Shinfeng, there was no going back now. He’d just have to keep believing in him…
“So enjoy yourselves, and have fun with it!” He Tian stood up, noticed a mistake in Wang Xinrou’s movements, and immediately shouted out—
