Yu Youchu almost rolled her eyes when she heard that—it’s just acting, isn’t it? She could do it too, but there was simply no need. Right now, all she wished was for the Baoli staff who were handling her case to come quickly and take her and Mu Chuan—who was sitting beside her with gossip sparkling in his eyes—away.

If possible, she wished she’d never have to see anyone connected to Shen Wang ever again, let alone be entangled with them. So whether it was Lin Qingwan or Shen Wang, she wanted them to disappear from her life as soon as possible!

“You’re misunderstanding the relationship between Ah Wang and me, Youchu. We... we’re just good friends. Don’t blame me for ruining your relationship,” Lin Qingwan said softly.

“Senior sister, there’s no need to say more. I have nothing to do with Shen Wang anymore,” Youchu replied firmly.

“Youchu...” Lin Qingwan’s voice faltered just then as the door to the lounge was pushed open.

“Qingwan, sorry to keep you waiting. Let’s go...” A stranger’s voice came from the doorway, drawing the three of them to look in that direction.

The newcomer was evidently a successful young man, his hair slicked back elegantly with a few soft strands drifting over his brows. His deep eyes and hooked nose gave off a commanding presence, while his thin lips pressed lightly together and his slightly protruding chin added a hint of allure.

He wore a sharply tailored coat that draped with a gentle flow, hinting at its expensive quality. His sleek suit trousers extended down neatly to polished leather shoes.

“Benson! You came so quickly. I just happened to run into my friend,” Lin Qingwan said naturally as she linked her arm through the man’s shoulder. His body stiffened, and a faint blush slowly rose on his face.

“This is Yu Youchu, and this is Mu Chuan. Youchu, Mu Chuan, this is my good friend Benson whom I met abroad. He’s currently collaborating with Baoli Jewelry, and the next collection features his designs,” Lin Qingwan said, her eyes smiling warmly. Beneath her gentle and graceful expression, a proud tone was unmistakable.

Yu Youchu watched Lin Qingwan’s every move but said nothing.

“Benson, can I invite my friends to the new product launch?” Lin Qingwan took on the demeanor of a hostess, while the seemingly cold Mu Chuan appeared quite taken in by her, tightly controlled by her charm.

Youchu twitched the corner of her mouth; this sister had caught quite a few fish in her net. She wondered what number Shen Wang ranked—surely not last.

“Of course. Qingwan’s friends are my friends,” Benson replied promptly.

Benson was the first to extend his hand in greeting to Yu Youchu and Mu Chuan.

“Youchu, now that you’ve broken up with Ah Wang, I wish you find another boyfriend just as outstanding as him soon,” Lin Qingwan said, leaning slightly closer to the man beside her as if hinting at something.

Yu Youchu’s eyelid twitched—what a poisonous curse.

She replied calmly, “There’s no need for that. My ambitions lie elsewhere. But senior sister did get one thing wrong—men like Shen Wang, I wouldn’t even look at them if they were chasing after me, let alone make the first move.”

Lin Qingwan’s subtle frown was barely noticeable. What invitation? She clenched her phone tightly—could Youchu have found out something?

But she quickly thought it through. So what if Youchu knew? She wanted Youchu to know that the man she loved so carefully was nothing more than a dog she could call and dismiss at her whim!

Lin Qingwan quickly composed herself, a trace of triumph in her eyes. Just as she was about to say something, the Baoli staff responsible for receiving Yu Youchu and Mu Chuan finally arrived, albeit late.

Youchu breathed a sigh of relief. “I won’t disturb senior sister’s date any longer. I hope everything goes smoothly and no disasters come your way.”

She winked mischievously at Lin Qingwan before turning to leave the smoky, chaotic lounge with Mu Chuan.

Lin Qingwan felt as if she’d been punched into cotton. Gritting her teeth, she wore a displeased expression and dragged Benson away.

By the time Yu Youchu and Mu Chuan finished their business and stepped out of Baoli’s doors, it was already seven in the evening.

Early spring nights fell quickly, and the yellow street lamps had already come on, casting soft circles of gentle light that flickered on the two as they walked.

Yu Youchu and Mu Chuan chatted casually about the day’s work.

Yu Youchu was a meticulous person. Mu Chuan had heard plenty of gossip about her today but hadn’t asked a single question. That told her Mu Chuan was someone easy to get along with—she liked dealing with people who respected boundaries.

“Youchu, I owe you today,” Mu Chuan smiled warmly, like a breeze in spring. “You carried the lion’s share of the work. If I don’t treat you to a meal, it just wouldn’t be right. Luckily, it’s still dinner time.”

“And judging by the expressions on the faces across the way when we left, I bet Group Leader Bai will have nothing but praise for us tomorrow,” he added, a touch of pride in his voice.

“You flatter me. I just did my job properly. There’s a long road ahead. Besides, I couldn’t have done it without you,” Youchu said, looking into Mu Chuan’s deep eyes. She keenly sensed beneath his warm exterior a profound indifference.

“By the way, I always eat dinner at home, so don’t worry about that,” she added suddenly, then froze mid-sentence. Right—she needed to go home to cook dinner. Was Pei Jiayin still waiting for her?

Hurriedly, she pulled out her phone. Sure enough, there were two missed calls from Pei Jiayin.

Crap, she’d forgotten to tell Pei Jiayin she wouldn’t be back!

“What’s wrong? Did something happen?” Mu Chuan asked with concern. “Do you need help?”

“It’s nothing, nothing. I have to go home. We can talk about dinner another time,” Youchu said quickly, dialing Pei Jiayin’s number. But after two rings, the call was cut off.

Youchu gripped her phone anxiously. Was Pei Jiayin angry?

Mu Chuan sensed something was wrong and calmly said, “I’ll get a taxi first. Don’t worry about whatever happened just yet.”

As he began walking toward the street, a voice called out from a distance.

“Youchu!”

She looked up, and Pei Jiayin’s face appeared before her.

He had parked his car beside the street where Baoli Company was located. Leaning against it with arms crossed, he wore a gray scarf softly draped over his shoulders, covering his sharp jawline. Rarely seen with rimless glasses, a breeze ruffled his coarse short hair, revealing a broad forehead and thick, sword-like eyebrows.

Mu Chuan noticed the sudden visible nervousness in Youchu. She looked like a startled little rabbit, full of regret for some mistake.

Whether facing an old rival or a sudden work crisis, she usually remained composed, but never like this.

“Pei Jiayin? What are you doing here?” Youchu asked.

Pei Jiayin glanced coldly at Mu Chuan beside her.
