Chapter 28: The Seven-Kill Demon-Sealing Spikes—The Life-Snatching Ghost Fox
The sun had not yet set, and darkness had not yet fallen. Yet, one by one, the lights began to illuminate the city. This city, which should have been resting, was instead embarking on its vibrant and colorful nightlife in another way.
Beneath the dazzling neon lights, a crowd of men and women indulged in a drunken revelry. Several luxury cars were parked outside a bustling nightclub. A group of men and women stepped out of the vehicles, dressed in the latest fashion, each striking a unique style. They embraced one another, shouting and laughing as they entered the nightclub.
At the forefront of the group were a handsome man and a beautiful woman.
“Meng… An… Ren!”
As the group entered the nightclub, a figure high up in the building opposite the club let out a voice filled with uncontrollable rage, as if wanting to devour them alive.
“All the expenses tonight are on Young Master Meng!!!”
After the group settled into a private room, a small attendant, receiving a signal from Young Master Meng, exclaimed excitedly. Meng Anren, meanwhile, sat calmly on the sofa, arms wrapped around the woman in his embrace.
The woman in Meng Anren’s arms was none other than Fan Shishi, the eldest daughter of the Fan family!
In this city, two great families stood supreme: the Meng family and the Fan family. Rumor had it that these two clans had upheld their legacies for centuries, with each generation forging alliances through marriage between one young couple from each family. This tradition was an unbreakable habit of the two houses.
For generations, many within both families shared blood ties, yet they always managed to choose a pair of young people beyond the fifth degree of kinship to marry.
In this generation, the chosen two were none other than Fan Shishi of the Fan family and Meng Shao’an, the young master of the Meng family.
These two were famous within the city’s second-generation elite circles—known as the golden couple—and their relationship was deeply affectionate.
Upon hearing that Young Master Meng was footing the bill tonight, the group of revelers instantly grew excited.
Fan Shishi pulled a seemingly pure and beautiful young woman aside, whispering softly. While speaking, Fan Shishi discreetly dropped a fast-acting pill into a glass of wine and handed it to the girl.
The girl, unsuspecting, took the wine and drank it.
As the girl swallowed the drink, a strange smile crept onto Fan Shishi’s face.
Watching the girl’s expression slowly grow dazed, Fan Shishi beckoned her out of the private room and arranged for a room to be prepared for her.
Once the girl was settled, Fan Shishi returned to the private room, handing the key to Meng Shao’an.
“I’ve arranged it for you—Room 702 on the seventh floor. Hurry, she’s still a virgin!”
“You always make me feel at ease,” Meng Shao’an said with a faint smile as he looked at the key in his hand, his expression softening at the thought of what was to come.
“Have fun!” Fan Shishi patted Meng Shao’an’s shoulder, showing no trace of guilt for giving her own friend to her boyfriend, as if this were not the first time she had done such a thing.
“Don’t worry, I’ll get my benefits, and you’ll get yours too,” Meng Shao’an said, kissing Fan Shishi’s cheek. He stood up from the sofa, straightened his clothes amid the noisy crowd in the room, and headed towards the door.
Just as Meng Shao’an was about to open the door to the private room, for some reason, he suddenly stopped and swiftly dodged to the side.
A tremendous force burst through the door, shattering it completely. A dark mist, thick as smoke, surged in from outside, accompanied by a voice filled with fury and hatred: “Meng Anren! I want your life!!!”
As the black mist advanced towards Meng Shao’an, he was taken aback. Among the wild crowd, a middle-aged man who had been quietly resting suddenly drew a peachwood sword from nowhere. Golden light shimmered along the blade. As the black mist approached, the man brandished the sword, standing between it and Meng Shao’an to block its path.
Within the black mist, a beast’s claw rested on the peachwood sword, instantly igniting a cloud of white smoke that scattered the dark fog.
“What kind of demon dares attack the Meng family?” the middle-aged man growled fiercely as he stood firmly before Meng Shao’an. “Meng Shao’an, leave now. I will deal with this demon!”
“Stinking Taoist, step aside! Today, I only want to kill him. Don’t force me to unleash a massacre!” The voice from within the black mist was hoarse yet ethereal, filled with rage and resentment.
“Master Lu, this is in your hands now,” Meng Shao’an said calmly, patting the Taoist’s shoulder. Despite the screams and panic from the ordinary people inside the room, both Meng Shao’an and Fan Shishi seemed as if they had long been accustomed to such occurrences. Meng Shao’an beckoned Fan Shishi with a calm gesture and slipped away from the side.
“Trying to escape?” Two red lights flickered within the black mist as it lunged towards Meng Shao’an again, only to be blocked once more by a golden glow.
Master Lu snorted coldly, standing firm before the black mist.
“Demon, as long as I, the humble Taoist, stand here today, you shall harm no one!” he declared.
The black mist hovered uncertainly in midair, glaring at the old Taoist and then at the retreating Meng Shao’an. Filled with fury, it hissed, “If you insist on blocking me today, don’t blame me for showing no mercy!”
As the voice fell, a massive black fox wreathed in flames emerged from within the mist. Six iron nails were driven through its body, each wrapped in chains.
“Seven Killing Demon-Sealing Nails? So you’re not a simple demon!” Master Lu’s face changed drastically as he saw the fox with only six nails left, one having disappeared.
“If you block me, you will die here today!” the black fox demon roared and lunged.
Though the Taoist possessed some spiritual power, he was no match for the fox demon. In just two rounds, the peachwood sword in his hand was shattered by a swipe of the fox’s paw, and he was grievously wounded.
As the fox’s next claw grew larger in his vision, the Taoist’s mind raced through countless memories, resigning himself to death.
Just then, a chain glowing with blue light suddenly shot from the side, wrapping around the fox’s paw and halting its advance before the Taoist.
“Almost too late!” Master Lu looked towards the sound and saw a man in a suit and tie calmly approaching from afar. A silk ribbon embroidered with the words “Demon Suppression” was tied around his left arm.
“You must be the ghost fox that fled from the graveyard yesterday?” Chu Tian held the soul-binding chain firmly, silently studying the fox demon.
