"So you know about those monsters?"
"They are Cursed Spirits."
"Fine, Cursed Spirits, enough—I don't care what they’re called." Keigi Gennai paced back and forth restlessly, cradling his uninjured left arm. "Is this why you were so determined to become a monk? Have you been able to see them since you were a child?"
"No, it only started during my last two years of university."
"No wonder. You never showed any interest in Buddhism before, yet suddenly, one day, you told me you wanted to become a monk."
Keigi Gennai took a deep breath, stopped, and turned to face his son. "Why didn't you tell me?"
Hiroshi Gennai sighed helplessly. "You wouldn't have believed me even if I had."
Keigi Gennai wanted to retort, but upon reflection, he realized that if not for his experience last night, he truly wouldn't have believed in ghosts... or Cursed Spirits. It was simply too unscientific.
Feeling appropriately silenced, Keigi Gennai grumbled, "Fine, you know your old man well. So, a Cursed Spirit appeared just now, didn't it?"
Keigi paused, then continued on his own, "Otherwise, you wouldn't have called out 'Dad,' and Mr. Fyodor wouldn't have vomited blood."
Not to mention one of you lunging at me, and the other waving a hand in front of my face.
Hiroshi Gennai opened his mouth to speak, but before he could utter a sound, Keigi seemed to read his thoughts and interjected, "Don't deny it. I may not be able to see them, but I'm not stupid, and I'm not blind."
Hiroshi Gennai: "..."
Yes, he had indeed intended to keep it a secret.
Like father, like son; they understood each other perfectly.
Mr. Fyodor.
So the young man's name was Fyodor? A very Russian name. Furthermore, his father addressed him as "Mr.," yet the youth was so young he didn't even look like an adult. To be addressed with such respect by his father, he must have achieved something significant in some field. Combined with the "vomiting blood" his father mentioned as evidence of the Cursed Spirit's existence...
—His father had known about Cursed Spirits long before this.
[Page 2/3]
And it was inextricably linked to the young man.
With sufficient information connected, Hiroshi Gennai quickly deduced the truth.
"Dad, when did you learn about Cursed Spirits? Have you already been in danger? Why didn't you tell me? Were you trying to send me away just now?" Hiroshi seized the critical point and countered.
Keigi Gennai choked. "Children shouldn't concern themselves with adult matters."
After a brief spat, the father and son returned to the crux of the issue.
Hiroshi Gennai glanced surreptitiously at the cosplayer. The pale-skinned youth leaned lazily against his chair, letting out a yawn. Moisture welled in his eyes, and the edges of his irises shimmered with a faint, iridescent pink, like a diffused arc of light. His thick, curled eyelashes drooped listlessly. Seeming to notice his gaze, the youth looked up.
Violet eyes stared directly at Hiroshi Gennai.
In a trance, Hiroshi felt as if he had been seen through. Those eyes seemed capable of peering into the human heart and exposing all hypocrisy.
At this moment, Keigi Gennai had finished his grumbling; he sat down, breathless, and took a deep gulp of water.
*Clack—*
As Keigi sat, his chair pushed back a few centimeters, the legs scraping against the floor with a harsh, grating sound.
Snapped out of it, Hiroshi Gennai withdrew his gaze, breaking into a cold sweat. He had felt completely controlled by the youth just moments ago. He knew the other party was dangerous and that he should have pretended nothing happened, but his eyes felt ensnared, and his mind had turned into mush.
*
Suspicion, vigilance, anxiety, worry, irritation...
These were the emotions the cosplayer sensed from Hiroshi Gennai.
Beyond his touch-of-death ability, the cosplayer had just discovered that he could enter the mental worlds of others and observe their thoughts.
This was a very useful ability—
He truly did like Fyodor D.; the other party felt like another version of himself in this world, even his abilities were so compatible.
As Hiroshi Gennai withdrew his gaze, the cosplayer's thoughts returned to the present.
In Hiroshi's mental world, he had seen a wall covered in red and black text that read "DANGER!" Crossing that wall, the cosplayer learned how Hiroshi viewed him.
How truly wronged he was.
The cosplayer thought.
He hadn't even done anything yet; on the contrary, he had saved Hiroshi's father. Yet, Hiroshi was so afraid of him and so vigilant. It was simply too much.
"Mr. Gennai, I would like to trouble you with something..." the cosplayer said to Keigi Gennai with a smile.

"Graduation is almost here. Which high school are you planning on attending, Suguru?"
"With Suguru's grades, you could easily get into Teiko, Rakuzan, or Shiratorizawa! Those are all top-tier elite schools."
"If I had Suguru's grades, I'd go to Totsuki!"
"Not everyone loves food as much as you do. Totsuki is great, but it’s a culinary academy. Even if their graduates go to high-end restaurants and are in high demand, at the end of the day, they're just cooks. It doesn't suit Suguru at all."
Suguru Geto had a pair of captivating phoenix eyes; when he looked at others, it always gave the illusion of deep affection. His eyebrows were slender and curved like a crescent moon. He had a gentle personality. Despite his handsome appearance, tall stature, and excellent grades—standing out far above most people—he remained devoid of any arrogance, always low-key and humble. If classmates asked for his help, he would do what he could within his ability.
Whether it was teachers or students, almost everyone liked Suguru Geto.
With such an image, Suguru gave the impression of someone destined for a career as a lawyer, teacher, or doctor. It was hard to imagine him rolling up his sleeves to stir-fry in a kitchen.
"Are you discriminating against chefs?"
"No escalating the argument!"
Several students, both boys and girls, surrounded Suguru’s desk. Suguru sat in his seat, listening helplessly as his classmates chattered and debated.
The schools everyone mentioned were prestigious, and with Suguru's grades, they were all within reach. The only problem was that Suguru himself had no interest in them.
Those schools were indeed top-tier or long-established institutions with deviation scores as high as 70, possessing elite faculty and facilities, heavily supported by the state. But none of them were what Suguru sought.
Suguru had already decided on his destination: Tokyo Jujutsu High School.
An obscure school that most people had never even heard of.
"What about you, Suguru?"
The topic finally returned to the protagonist. Suguru came back to his senses and said, with a gentle tone, "I haven't decided yet."
He couldn't tell the truth. If he did, his classmates would only think he had lost his mind or was planning to go to some diploma mill. It might even reach the teachers' ears, which would be troublesome.
He had finally persuaded his parents, and though they had agreed, they remained conflicted. They still hoped he would walk the path of an ordinary person, rather than that dangerous road with no visible future.
If a teacher contacted his parents to dissuade him, they might go back on their word. So, as the crucial moment approached, he couldn't afford any slip-ups.
He would handle the confidentiality well.

"No problem! Leave the identity matters to me. I'll get it sorted for you as soon as possible. You'll definitely make it in time for this year's freshman enrollment," Keigi Gennai said, patting his chest confidently.
