Chapter 32: Assisting with the Investigation
Zhao Yixin certainly did not hold back with Yang Qi. She ordered a mountain of food and actually finished every last bite. Fortunately, it was only breakfast. The Yang Qi of old could never have afforded to treat someone with an appetite like hers.
Beep—beep—
Just as the two of them were nearly finished eating, Yang Qi’s phone suddenly rang.
“What is this?” Yang Qi frowned when he saw the caller’s name. He was not familiar with the number, and it was the first time it had called him. Yet the owner of the number was Luo Bing.
She was the female police officer who had arrived when Shen Yuxuan encountered the robbers. Several days had already passed since that incident, and Yang Qi had assumed the matter was over. He had not expected Luo Bing to call him now.
“Yang Qi, are you free today? We need you to come to the station and assist with the investigation.” Luo Bing’s voice came through the phone.
“No problem. I’ll come over shortly.” Yang Qi nodded.
After hanging up, Yang Qi frowned slightly, wondering why Luo Bing had called. According to Shen Yuxuan, the robbers had been lured there because someone at Liu’s Jewelry had leaked information about their trip. Even if the culprits were caught, however, the police would not be able to obtain any evidence against Liu’s Jewelry.
Otherwise, Shen Yuxuan would never have let the matter go so easily. Of the two bodyguards accompanying her, one had died and the other had been injured. Even Xu Jiajia had suffered wounds. If Yang Qi had not happened to be there, Shen Yuxuan herself might not have escaped unscathed.
“Hey, I’m talking to you. Don’t tell me you’re planning to skip the bill.” Zhao Yixin glared at Yang Qi angrily.
“Of course not. Something came up.” Yang Qi shook his head and quickly called the waiter over to pay.
“What happened? Is it serious?” Zhao Yixin asked.
She had noticed that Yang Qi had fallen silent after answering the phone, so it was probably not something trivial.
“Nothing major. It’s about what happened a few days ago. I just need to go deal with it.” Yang Qi spoke calmly. Although he had become involved in the robbery by chance, he was also a victim, so there was no reason for him to worry about cooperating with the investigation.
“Since you have something to do, I’ll go back on my own. I only returned to Qingzhou last night, so I might as well go home and catch up on some sleep.” Zhao Yixin stood up.

“It’s only a small matter, and I have to drive anyway. I’ll take you home.” Yang Qi smiled.
After driving Zhao Yixin back to her villa, Yang Qi continued alone to the municipal police headquarters. As soon as he arrived, he called Luo Bing. A few minutes later, she came out to meet him and led him to her office.
“Captain Luo, may I ask why you wanted to see me?” Yang Qi asked directly.
This was his first time in a police station. Unless one worked within the system, he doubted anyone actually wanted to come to a place like this.
“There are still some unresolved details concerning the robbery. We asked you to come in so that you could provide us with some information.” Luo Bing glanced at Yang Qi and spoke slowly.
When she had first seen the six badly wounded robbers, she had been surprised by Yang Qi’s skill, but she had not thought much of it. After all, dealing with six people bare-handed was not impossible. Some special-forces soldiers and highly trained bodyguards could do the same.
But after the six robbers regained consciousness and gave their statements, she learned that Yang Qi had taken each of them down with a single move—one strike had been enough to seriously injure a grown man, even one carrying a weapon. His skill was far greater than she had initially imagined.
“Our investigation found that the six robbers received their information roughly an hour before the incident. They knew that your vehicle was carrying jade worth tens of millions. As for the person who supplied that information, we have not yet identified them.” Luo Bing’s voice grew solemn.
“I don’t know anything about that either.” Yang Qi gave a bitter smile.
Although he was almost certain that the informant had been someone from Liu’s Jewelry, there was no evidence. Anyone willing to do such a thing would certainly have prepared carefully. Otherwise, the police would not have been unable to uncover anything.
“We know that. We asked you to come here because, in addition to robbing you, the six men had another assignment. The person who gave them the information was also the one who gave them that order.” Luo Bing looked at Yang Qi and spoke slowly.
“That assignment had something to do with me?” Yang Qi asked, startled.
Luo Bing nodded. “Their orders were to cripple you. That is why we want to know whether you have offended anyone.”
“Cripple me?” Yang Qi stared at her in surprise.
He had always believed that the robbery had been aimed at Shen Yuxuan. He had never expected the robbers to have received an additional order concerning him. It was completely beyond his expectations.
“I’m just an ordinary university student. Before that trip to appraise stones, I was practically penniless. Who could I possibly have offended?” Yang Qi said with a bitter laugh.
He had a fairly good idea why Liu’s Jewelry had wanted the robbers to cripple him. They had probably learned that Shen Yuxuan intended to recruit him. If he were disabled, Shen’s Jewelry would have no stone-appraisal consultant, leaving it in an even more dangerous position.
“We asked you to come here not only because of this, but also to warn you that whether the people behind it were targeting you or Shen Yuxuan, they are unlikely to let the matter end so easily.” Luo Bing was not surprised by Yang Qi’s answer. In truth, they also suspected that Shen Yuxuan had been the main target. But investigations required evidence, and no possibility could be dismissed.
“Thank you for the warning, Captain Luo. I’ll be careful.” Yang Qi nodded.
Apart from initially mistaking him for one of the robbers, Luo Bing seemed to be a good police officer.

“I’m not particularly worried about your safety. Gun control is strict in this country, and there are not many people capable of threatening you. The robbers, on the other hand, were seriously injured, and they still have not recovered.” Luo Bing shook her head.
Given Yang Qi’s skill, she knew that in the modern world, it would be difficult to threaten him without a large-scale attack or the use of firearms.
“They were robbers. If I hadn’t used sufficient force at the time, the ones in trouble might have been Shen Yuxuan and me.” Yang Qi’s voice turned solemn.
“I understand. But try to use less force in the future. This is a society governed by law, after all. You were not held responsible this time, but personal violence is not something we encourage.” Luo Bing pondered her words.
“I understand.” Yang Qi nodded.
Clearly, Luo Bing was warning him that possessing overwhelming personal power could itself become a threat to society if left unchecked.
“Good. I’m glad you understand.” Luo Bing nodded slightly.
A special-forces elite living freely among ordinary society could pose a considerable threat. After all, people with that kind of personal power were normally subject to strict controls.
“If there’s nothing else, I’ll be leaving.” Yang Qi rose.
“Wait,” Luo Bing said suddenly.
“What is it?” Yang Qi turned to her.
“Let me ask you something personal. With your level of skill, how many robbers like those could you handle?” Luo Bing looked at him expectantly.
“I could take on ten.” Yang Qi smiled faintly, then rose and walked out of the office.
“Ten?” Luo Bing smiled.
From his expression, she could tell that Yang Qi had not been exaggerating. If anything, he had been modest.
“Internal martial arts… the Yang family?” Luo Bing murmured.
She casually nudged the decorative silver ball on her desk. It spun in place, revealing a shallow indentation left by a fingertip.
The mark was small, but it matched the size of Luo Bing’s finger perfectly. Clearly, she—not anyone else—had left it there.
