Chapter Fifty: Through Fire and Water, Factory Lord!
Inside the room.
“Factory Supervisor!”
“Hey, stop calling me that.” Chief Steward Li waved his hand and turned to sit beside the bed. “You really don’t want to see the Cui family wiped out, do you?”
“Heh, you flatter me. Attempting to assassinate a court official in broad daylight... that’s a grave offense, you know...” Li Wenxuan wore a sly smile. The target hadn’t died, but the goal was achieved, and on top of that, he had won a wife as beautiful as this one.
In two words—awesome!
“Today, the court has already publicly discussed the matter.”
Li Wenxuan asked excitedly, “And the verdict?”
Chief Steward Li spoke without much emotion, “His Majesty issued an edict reprimanding Li Hu.”
After saying this, he felt a bit awkward under Li Wenxuan’s expectant gaze, resembling a secluded lady longing for news. He frowned and added, “That’s all.”
“What? That’s it?” Li Wenxuan felt cheated. He had risked half his life, only to get this?
“I know you’re anxious, but don’t rush things.”
At those familiar words, Li Wenxuan’s eyes lit up. “So there’s more to come?”
“Of course!” Chief Steward Li squinted and smiled, “But what happens next, you’ll have to wait patiently. And from now on, remember one thing.”
“Please, Factory Supervisor, speak!”
“On the registration rolls, Li Wenxuan is officially dead. The man alive now is Li Biao, a hundred-household officer under the Eastern Depot’s enforcement division.”
His tone heavy, Chief Steward Li explained, “Only by doing this can we deal a more severe blow to the Cui family.”
“I remembered that from the start,” Li Wenxuan said cheerfully. “When the register was made, it was under the name Li Biao.”
“But don’t be disheartened,” Chief Steward Li reassured him. “When you achieve fame and success one day, you can still reclaim your original name.”
Li Wenxuan was a little puzzled. Why was the deputy factory supervisor so insistent on this alias?
Chief Steward Li comforted him again, “Though a true man doesn’t change his name or surname lightly, there’s an old saying: a man must be adaptable, and revenge may wait ten years.”
“When the time comes that you can stand against many forces, restoring your real name will be a triumphant declaration of your return.”
Li Wenxuan looked at Chief Steward Li in surprise; he hadn’t thought that far.
In this world, he had never felt a deep sense of belonging. As for what name he used, as long as it wasn’t some nobody’s, it really didn’t matter.
Still, since Chief Steward Li had set the tone so seriously...
Li Wenxuan declared indignantly, “Factory Supervisor is right. Although I am full of grievances, I can only endure this for now. When I achieve success and fame, I will restore my original name.”
“Good! That’s the spirit of a man!” Chief Steward Li clapped his hands, finally feeling his efforts had paid off.
“Besides, the court now knows your situation. They see that you baited the Cui family yourself, giving His Majesty a strong reason to weaken them. So, the court plans to reward you with a residence—”
“A reward like this? A house?” Li Wenxuan almost jumped up, ready to get to work.
To face any danger for the factory supervisor!
“Please, give me all the overtime tasks!”
Chief Steward Li chuckled, “As long as you serve the Eastern Depot loyally, rewards are the least of your worries!”
Unfortunately, despite his generosity, he could not hide the pain in his heart.
All this money... was his own!
He had even tried to find an excuse to adopt Li Wenxuan as his own son.
Now, a runaway princess appeared out of nowhere.
No matter how brave Chief Steward Li was, he dared not mention this matter again.
Wasn’t the money just thrown away?
“I’ve already spent quite a bit on renovations here...” Li Wenxuan recalled asking Crazy Donkey to install a kitchen, bathroom, and toilet outside...
He didn’t even know if those were finished.
And now, they were moving away just like that?
That was too kind to the landlord.
Although the landlord had a very pure daughter.
But compared to his fiancée’s beauty, purity meant nothing. Nothing at all.
“Well...” Chief Steward Li considered.
“How about the Eastern Depot buys this place?”
“Wouldn’t that be abusing our power?” Li Wenxuan asked.
“Why be so straightforward?” Chief Steward Li choked on his saliva. “But since you brought it up, of course we won’t do that... We’ll buy this land at the city’s market price, then build a new residence connected to this one. How does that sound?”
Li Wenxuan nodded, “Sounds good, but I’ll have to ask my wife first.”
“You...” Chief Steward Li was speechless. Asking the princess’s opinion? They might as well just move into the palace.
“Fine, according to my husband’s wishes, let’s buy this place and rebuild the residence! We shouldn’t waste this little spot.”
The princess was so happy she almost jumped for joy.
Meanwhile, the emperor was boiling with anger.
The factory supervisor didn’t care as much.
At most, he just paid some money, but what the emperor had to deal with... well, better not say.
“Alright, since that’s settled, let’s go back. You focus on recovering...” The Martial Emperor glanced at Li Wenxuan with a complex expression. “I’ve discussed with your wife, and we’ve decided to hire your landlord’s family to take care of you.”
“Old Jiang’s family are kind people, that’s good enough... but I think we should bring in a few outsiders as well.”
The Martial Emperor’s eyes brightened, feeling more reassured.
Since Sirou is blind, and Li Wenxuan might not be able to get up anytime soon, if Sirou were just an ordinary blind musician, the landlord’s family could quietly collude and meddle where Li Wenxuan could not see.
But adding a few outsiders would change the dynamic.
They certainly wouldn’t dare act recklessly.
“That sounds good. I’ll have the authorities send someone later.”
“Factory Supervisor, Crazy Donkey is reliable; let’s have him come over,” Li Wenxuan already had a suitable candidate in mind.
The Martial Emperor shot a puzzled glance at Chief Steward Li.
Chief Steward Li quickly smiled and said, “Don’t worry, it’s definitely him.”
“Thank you, Factory Supervisor, Deputy Factory Supervisor!”
When Li Wenxuan said this, Princess Sirou’s face showed a meaningful expression.
“Alright, now rest and recover!” The Martial Emperor looked at Li Wenxuan with a complicated expression, deciding not to look at his daughter again, fearing he might lose composure.
As he stepped out of the room, he heard his daughter’s joyful laughter inside.
He paused, a confused look on his face, then smiled like a fond uncle.
Having been emperor for decades, he had strong control over the court and didn’t need his daughter to marry off to secure officials—especially this daughter, who caused him the most pain.
If she could live happily like this, it was the best outcome.
“Keep an eye on that Li kid. If he dares to fool around outside...” The Martial Emperor’s eyes flashed with a cold killing intent, making the winter chill pale in comparison.
Chief Steward Li solemnly replied, “Your Majesty, rest assured, I will watch him like a hawk, but...”
“But what?” The Martial Emperor’s mood lifted after hearing his daughter’s genuine happiness. He turned with a smile toward Chief Steward Li.
Chief Steward Li relaxed and smiled, “If he remains the enforcement hundred-household officer under Lou Wanxi, it might not be suitable.”
The emperor narrowed his eyes. “I originally intended to let him train at that post, but now it seems inappropriate.”
His gaze fixed on Chief Steward Li. “Any ideas?”
“I don’t dare claim to have ideas, Your Majesty, only humble opinions to ease your burden.”
The Martial Emperor chuckled lightly. “Don’t be like those civil officials who beat around the bush. Speak plainly!”
