Chapter 15: Could This Kid Be a Lawyer?

After overhearing the conversation between the two men, Fu Qiang and his wife finally understood what had happened.

Mo Xinmei said, “Jiang Hai, don’t be afraid. I’ve already called the police. The officers will be here soon.”

Hearing Mo Xinmei’s reassurance, Lin Wanqiu couldn’t help but feel a little worried, especially since Chen Jianghai had been the first to make a move.

Chi Fei spat out a mouthful of blood and sneered, “Alright then, you dare hit me? Let’s see if you’re still so arrogant when we get to the station.”

Chen Jianghai ignored Chi Fei’s provocation completely and turned to Fu Qiang and Mo Xinmei. “Fu Ge, I need your help to take Wanqiu to the hospital for a checkup.”

Before either of them could respond, Lin Wanqiu spoke up, “I’m fine. There’s no need to go to the hospital.”

“It’s better to get checked out,” Chen Jianghai said sternly, leaving no room for argument.

He then pulled a wad of cash from his pocket and handed it to Lin Wanqiu. “Make sure you see a doctor and buy the best medicine.”

Lin Wanqiu tried to decline, but Chen Jianghai stopped her firmly. “Listen to me, or I won’t be at ease.”

He gave a slight nod to Fu Qiang and Mo Xinmei. “Thank you for your help.”

“No problem. We’ll take Wanqiu to the hospital right away,” Fu Qiang said quickly.

Knowing the police would arrive any moment, Chen Jianghai wanted to get Lin Wanqiu out of there first.

“Wait, none of you are going anywhere!” Chi Fei tried to block the three of them as they moved to leave.

Chen Jianghai planted himself firmly in front of Chi Fei like an immovable mountain.

“If you try to stop me again, don’t blame me for being ruthless. No one will be able to pull me away,” he said, clenching his fists with a fierce look.

Chi Fei immediately backed down.

Lin Wanqiu quickly reminded, “Jiang Hai, don’t start fighting anymore.”

“I understand,” Chen Jianghai replied.

He turned to her with a smile and whispered in her ear, “When you get to the hospital, call Aiguo and let him know.”

“Call Aiguo?” Lin Wanqiu blinked, a little puzzled.

“Yes. His uncle works at our local police station,” Chen Jianghai explained.

“Oh, I see now!” Lin Wanqiu nodded repeatedly.

Not long after Lin Wanqiu and the others left, the police officers arrived.

“Who called the police?” an older officer asked, followed by a younger one.

Chen Jianghai stepped forward. “I did.”

The older officer frowned slightly. “The caller was a woman.”

“That was my neighbor. My wife got hurt, so I asked her to take her to the hospital,” Chen Jianghai answered.

The officer raised an eyebrow. “Someone got hurt? How serious?”

“Officer, don’t listen to his nonsense. Nothing happened!” Chi Fei quickly interjected.

“He just stumbled and fell. It’s nothing serious. I’m the one who’s really hurt—you can see, I’m bleeding,” Chi Fei said.

“Tell me what happened. You go first,” the older officer said, pointing to Chen Jianghai.

Chen Jianghai recounted the entire incident without exaggeration.

After hearing the story, the officer glanced at Chi Fei. “Is what he said true?”

“Pretty much,” Chi Fei nodded.

“You’re both suspected of fighting. Come with me to the station,” the officer commanded.

Chi Fei immediately protested, “He started it. Just arrest him. Why do I have to go too?”

“According to his account, you hit his wife first, and he only responded afterward. You bear some responsibility,” the officer replied matter-of-factly.

Chi Fei argued, “I never hit his wife. She lost her balance on her own. It’s got nothing to do with me.”

“You didn’t say that before,” the younger officer added.

“I was concussed from being hit by him. My mind was confused,” Chi Fei hurriedly claimed.

“Enough talk. Come with us to the station to think it over,” the older officer said expressionlessly.

Seeing this, Chi Fei had no choice but to comply.

Meanwhile, at the hospital, Lin Wanqiu found a phone and called Fang Aiguo.

When Fang Aiguo heard that Chen Jianghai had been in a fight and might be taken to the station, he jumped up angrily. “Damn it! How dare they mess with Hai Ge? Sister-in-law, don’t worry. Leave this to me—I’m going straight to my uncle.”

“Aiguo, thank you so much!” Lin Wanqiu said.

“No problem. Just go home and wait calmly.”

“By the way, sister-in-law, make sure the doctor issues a certificate stating the injuries are serious. I’ll need it,” Fang Aiguo reminded her.

“What for?” Lin Wanqiu asked, confused.

“Never mind, just do it,” he replied.

“Okay, got it!” she said.

After hanging up, Lin Wanqiu thought it over and left the hospital to go to the police station.

At the police station, after waiting a long time, the older officer finally came over to record statements.

Since Chi Fei was the injured party, they took his statement first.

He exaggerated and twisted the story, painting Chen Jianghai as a violent, ruthless villain.

When he finished, the officer approached Chen Jianghai with a notebook.

With a sharp slap, he dropped the notebook on the table, looking at Chen Jianghai. “You hit him pretty hard. The guy’s badly hurt.”

“Officer, you must be fair and not side with criminals,” Chen Jianghai said calmly.

“Oh? What crime has he committed?” the older officer asked with a smirk.

Chen Jianghai raised a finger and listed each point clearly.

“First, he’s a loan shark. National law clearly prohibits private lending. This is illegal.

“Second, he’s involved in extortion. Without any substantial written evidence, he barged into a citizen’s home, breaking the law.

“Third, I only fought back because he attacked first and hurt my wife. This is self-defense. My wife is at the hospital for an injury assessment, and it may be classified as a level-two injury.

“Fourth, if my wife’s injuries are confirmed, I will file a counter-complaint to hold him legally responsible.”

The older officer was momentarily stunned.

Well, quoting legal provisions so precisely—could this kid be a lawyer?

He scratched his head, wondering how to handle this case.

Just then, the door suddenly opened, and a middle-aged man with a crew cut and a sturdy build walked in.

The older officer immediately stood up and respectfully said, “Chief Huang!”

“Old Ma, busy?” the newcomer greeted.

The man was Huang Lixian, the police chief and Fang Aiguo’s uncle.

“Chief Huang, we’re handling a fight case,” Old Ma said, pointing at Chen Jianghai.

Seeing Huang Lixian, Chen Jianghai nodded slightly and smiled.

“What’s the situation?” Huang asked.

Old Ma quickly summarized the incident.

“Hm. Old Ma, the city is cracking down hard on loan sharks. We can’t let the common people suffer. We must neither wrong an innocent nor let a criminal go free,” Huang Lixian said firmly.

Hearing that, Old Ma immediately understood the chief’s emphasis.

“Yes, Chief. Don’t worry, I understand,” Old Ma replied.

“Alright, that’s settled.”

With that, Huang Lixian turned and left.

“Come on, tell me everything you just said again,” Old Ma said, sitting down and opening his notebook, pen in hand.

“Okay,” Chen Jianghai complied smoothly.

After recording the statement, Old Ma waved his hand. “Done. You’re free to go.”

“Thank you, officer,” Chen Jianghai said with a smile as he stood.

In the next room, Chi Fei jumped up as soon as he saw Chen Jianghai leave.

“Hey! Hey! Officers, why did you let him go? What about me?”

“Quiet. You want to go? First clear things up,” Old Ma said flatly, pointing at him.

“What do you want me to explain? I’m the victim!” Chi Fei said with a sour face.

“Hmph. Your situation is serious. Confess and you might get leniency. Resist and you’ll face harsher consequences. Think carefully,” Old Ma said, then closed the door.

“Chen Jianghai, this isn’t over!” Chi Fei gritted his teeth and snarled.

Outside the station, night had fully fallen, and street lamps glowed one by one.

Chen Jianghai looked up and saw a familiar figure standing not far away.

Bathed in the dim light, the figure stood alone—so lonely, so helpless, so fragile.

Her face was full of hesitation and unease, and she seemed to be murmuring something quietly.
