Chapter 37: Ao Yin vs. Tyrannosaurus Rex

“Xiao Chen, we’re heading west.”
Ao Xin turned with Ao Chen toward the western part of the city. Meng Kui had gone west to hunt zombies earlier, and she had no idea whether he would run into Feng Kun’s faction.
In the early days of Bian City, besides Feng Kun’s faction in the west, there was Zhang Heng’s faction entrenched in the chemical plant to the south, Yang Shaofei’s faction relying on the Bell Tower Fortress for defense in the city center, and Xu Wenhao’s faction, which had made its base inside the iron tower in the north.
In their previous life, these four men had been known as the Four Emperors of Bian City!
Among them, Feng Kun and Xu Wenhao were Devil Fruit users.
The other two, despite being ordinary humans, had cultivated Haki and managed to hold their own against Feng Kun and Xu Wenhao for quite some time.
Of course, none of them became the ultimate victor in the end.
They were swallowed up by a powerful figure from the Divine Capital. That same figure went on to unify every faction in Yu Province and allied with the strong forces of Ji Province to prevent the Desert Emperor, Li Hui, from expanding southeastward.
That was why Li Hui later fought his way north and west all the way into Central Asia.
In the western part of the city, Meng Kui knocked down a Meat Corpse. He then struck its neck more than a dozen times with the long blade in his hand before finally severing its head.
It was not that the Meat Corpse was especially powerful. Meng Kui was simply exhausted and could no longer maintain his human-beast form. At the same time, the blade had been badly nicked and rolled from the prolonged fighting.
Looking at the chips and warped edge, Meng Kui sighed. No wonder the boss preferred blunt weapons. Blades and swords really were too fragile.
“From now on, I’m using heavy weapons too!”
Panting, Meng Kui muttered inwardly, The Divine Gift Space has Kaido’s spiked club. I wonder if the boss will exchange for it. But that isn’t the only option available. Even if the boss exchanges for it, I should still be able to get one, right? If not, I’ll exchange for Yamato’s weapon.
He was a rugged man by nature, and his Ox-Devil form specialized in strength, so he had little regard for blades and swords.
What kind of damage could something so light possibly do?
Then he suddenly remembered that the Divine Gift Space also contained Alvida’s spiked club.
Kaido’s and Yamato’s clubs were both weapons of the Supreme Grade, worth a million points. Alvida’s, however, was different. It was merely of the Fine Grade and cost ten thousand points.
Ten thousand points—if he worked hard, he could still afford that!
After looking around, Meng Kui saw that all the zombies closest to him had already been killed. The remaining ones were some distance away, so he decided to exchange for a piece of Water-Water Meat and rest for a while.
The streets were lined with deserted convenience stores and shops.
He planned to enter one of the convenience stores, brace the door with tables and chairs, and rest for a while.
“Hm?”
He suddenly stopped.
A large group of people was advancing toward him in a grand procession.
There were more than a hundred of them. Although they were all ordinary people, they appeared to have worked in physically demanding jobs before the apocalypse, and every one of them was in excellent condition.

They wielded a variety of weapons, taking turns attacking the zombies around them. Together, they seemed to form something resembling a military formation!
Even when they encountered a Meat Corpse, they were capable of keeping it at bay. As for the man at their head, he was extremely powerful. With his subordinates restraining the zombie, he easily cut off its head.
There was no denying it—their leader was a remarkable talent!
“These people are no amateurs.”
Meng Kui stroked his chin thoughtfully as the group drew closer.
He did not think much of it. He simply stepped back a few paces, intending to let them pass.
Instead, they stopped in front of him.
“Do you need something?”
Meng Kui was astonished. He was no longer the ordinary man he had once been, and he certainly was not afraid of anyone looking for trouble. While tearing into the Water-Water Meat in his hand, he asked coldly,
“You’re the Mythical Zoan user, aren’t you?”
A stern-faced man stepped forward.
“Join me. I have more food than we can ever finish and more women than we can ever use! Follow me, and you’ll be second only to me!”
The man was arrogant, a long blade resting across his shoulder.
He was Feng Kun.
If this Mythical Zoan user became his subordinate, Feng Kun would be even more confident that he could become the ruler of Bian City.
Perhaps, in time, he could even expand his faction throughout all of Yu Province!
“You?”
Meng Kui sneered. “What are you supposed to be?”
Feng Kun flew into a rage. Not only had this man refused to submit, he had actually dared to insult him!
Ever since the apocalypse began and he acquired overwhelming strength, no one had defied him so openly for a very long time.
“Looks like you’ve got a death wish.”
Feng Kun grinned, revealing a row of pale, vicious teeth. He drew the long blade from his shoulder and tossed the sheath to one of his followers behind him.
“You think being a Mythical Zoan makes you invincible?”
He brought the blade down.
Meng Kui met it with his own long knife, and the impact forced both men back a step.
“What strength!”
Meng Kui was startled. Feng Kun was equally surprised.
Meng Kui had believed that, apart from the boss, no one in this world could possibly surpass him in strength.

As for Feng Kun, he had always considered himself no weaker than a Meat Corpse in terms of strength. No human should have been his equal, yet this man had actually fought him to a standstill?
“So you have a strength-based Devil Fruit too.”
Feng Kun rolled his neck. His body rapidly expanded as gray-green scales spread across him, while his muscles grew thicker and more powerful.
A roar echoed into the distance.
Feng Kun laughed wildly. “I ate the Dragon-Dragon Fruit, Ancient Zoan, Tyrannosaurus Rex form! How many rounds do you think your Mythical Zoan can last against a tyrannosaur?”
He transformed into his human-beast form.
Meng Kui was startled. He was already exhausted. Although the Water-Water Meat had restored some of his strength, it would not last long.
“Come on! Let me see just how powerful this legendary Mythical Zoan really is!”
Feng Kun brought his long blade down again. This time, empowered by the strength of the tyrannosaur, the blow was even more ferocious.
With his enemy pressing him so relentlessly, how could Meng Kui endure it?
With a roar, he transformed into the human-beast form of the Ox-Devil. His already battered blade rose to meet Feng Kun’s attack.
“A cow?”
Feng Kun taunted him. “A mere herbivore dares challenge a mighty tyrannosaur?”
“I’m no vegetarian!”
Meng Kui sneered as Netherworld energy coiled around the edge of his blade.
“If you swear loyalty to my boss, I may still spare your life!”
“Your boss? Hahahahahaha! So you’re nothing more than someone else’s dog!”
Feng Kun swung his blade down while trading insults with Meng Kui.
“Being my boss’s dog would be an honor! You idiot—you don’t know how to appreciate kindness!”
The two were evenly matched in strength, but Meng Kui’s Netherworld energy gave Feng Kun a sense of dread. Although Meng Kui’s blade was already badly worn, Feng Kun still did not dare let it strike him.
Moreover, Meng Kui had once been a combat instructor. Although he had never trained in armed combat before, his command of battle was far beyond Feng Kun’s.
Before long, he spotted an opening in Feng Kun’s defense.
“Netherworld Slash!”
With a thunderous shout, Netherworld power extended from the blade, forming a tremendous black arc of light.
This was Meng Kui’s first rudimentary application of Netherworld power.
Netherworld Slash was not sword aura, and it lacked true sharpness. Yet beneath the Netherworld, all things decayed. Even the defenses of a tyrannosaur would be severed in two by this strike!
