Chapter 10: Meng Kui and Liu Xiyao

Meng Kui saw Ao Xin stop and turn to look at him, and immediately struck a full 360-degree pose to show off his muscles.
“Alright, get in the truck.”
Seeing his approval, Meng Kui was overjoyed. He abandoned his own belongings, luggage, and everything else—what good were supplies if he could stick close to such a powerful figure?
Fearful that Ao Xin might abandon him if he delayed even a moment, Meng Kui didn’t dare take the front passenger seat. Instead, relying on his physical ability, he climbed into the rear cargo area.
Meng Kui’s success sparked hope in the others. This big shot wasn’t entirely heartless.
The greasy middle-aged man spoke up again: “I—”
But he was immediately cut off. “Get lost!”
Even if Ao Xin intended to recruit more people, he certainly wouldn’t do so openly here. Having one like Meng Kui in the early stages was more than enough, and besides, his loyalty still needed to be tested.
“Sir!” The woman in the qipao, seeing him about to leave, quickly spoke up again.
“I can work for you too! Though I don’t have strength, I’m good at cleaning, housework, cooking!”
She realized that since this young man hadn’t taken her along just because of her beauty, she had to prove her other value.
She even added, “Sir! In this apocalypse, beautiful women are resources. I believe with my looks, you could sell me and gain quite a bit from it!”
“And besides, I’m still a virgin!”
She knew men cared about this. Even though she toyed with men effortlessly, she had never truly let any of them touch her because this was one of her greatest assets.
Damn!
Ao Xin was stunned.
Who sells themselves like this?
This woman was truly ruthless.
But it was often such people who accomplish great things.
He fixed his gaze on her deeply. “Get on.”
The woman was overjoyed. Without Ao Xin’s consent, she didn’t dare take the front seat and instead clumsily climbed into the rear cargo area.
Ao Xin watched this scene and nodded inwardly. This woman might not just be a pretty face.
Others behind also wanted to join like these two, but Ao Xin’s overwhelming presence rippled out again, and everyone collapsed to the ground in shock.
A seasoned survivor recognized the aura: “It’s Conqueror’s Haki! The big shot has awakened Conqueror’s Haki!”
“Oh my God! How is that possible? The apocalypse just began! He’s too strong!”
His own Conqueror’s Haki was not yet advanced, and since in this apocalypse it could be trained consciously, it must be cultivated step-by-step from a low level to a high one.

Returning to the truck, Ao Xin started the engine and continued forward.
At the same time, he kept an eye on the surroundings. The big truck was running low on fuel and would need to stop at a gas station.
Considering it was only the first day of the apocalypse, there should still be plenty of fuel at gas stations.
After traveling for another two hours, he finally found a roadside rest area.
However, it had already been overrun by zombies.
Passersby had planned to stop here to refuel and gather food but, seeing the hordes of zombies occupying the area, had to abandon the idea.
Ao Xin had no such worries.
As soon as the truck stopped, a group of zombies swarmed around.
They couldn’t get into the cab, so they attempted to climb onto the cargo area to attack Meng Kui and the woman.
The two cowered in fear inside the cargo hold, avoiding showing their heads, praying that Ao Xin would swiftly dispatch the zombies.
Ao Xin opened the door, shifted into his human-beast hybrid form, and with a baseball bat in hand, casually smashed several zombies attempting to climb aboard.
At that moment, the convoy that had been following him arrived at the rest area.
They had planned to wait for Ao Xin to clear the zombies before replenishing supplies, but their arrival attracted the zombies’ attention, and the creatures lunged at them.
Helpless, the convoy was forced to retreat.
“Get down!”
Ao Xin ordered the two in the cargo area to come down, then took a crowbar from the cab and handed it to Meng Kui. “Kill that zombie.”
Meng Kui took the crowbar—sturdy and well-balanced, a fine weapon for zombie-slaying in this apocalypse.
After dispatching all the zombies one by one with the crowbar, only one remained for Meng Kui to fight.
Meanwhile, Ao Xin began refueling the truck.
He also grabbed the fire axe and fire shovel from the gas station, tossing them into the cab—good weapons as well.
Meng Kui, a combat coach, displayed impressive strength, speed, and combat reflexes.
Before escaping the city, he had already slain two zombies, so he was experienced in dealing with these creatures.
If not for the fear of the zombie virus, he could have launched even fiercer attacks.
Once Ao Xin finished refueling, Meng Kui successfully killed the last zombie.
“Not bad,” Ao Xin nodded in approval, then said, “Go inside and find some fuel cans. We need to carry extra fuel back.”
The two immediately went searching.
But soon, they came running back in a sorry state—several zombies lurked behind the rest area, chasing them frantically.
After dispatching those zombies, Ao Xin poured the fuel into cans and loaded them into the rear cargo hold.

Only then did he ask the woman in the qipao, “What’s your name?”
Though she looked delicate and weak, since boarding his truck she had performed admirably.
When zombies climbed onto the truck, she didn’t scream or panic.
This raised her rating in Ao Xin’s mind.
“I’m Liu Xiyao,” she replied quickly when he finally asked.
“Sit in the front passenger seat. No more climbing into the cargo hold.”
Ao Xin’s words delighted Liu Xiyao.
This meant the young man recognized her?
“Yes, Master!”
Her address surprised Ao Xin again.
She didn’t even ask his name but directly called him ‘Master.’
One had to be willing to humble themselves to survive better in this apocalypse.
After Meng Kui climbed back into the cargo hold, Ao Xin also returned to the cab.
He started the big truck and drove toward home.
On the way, he received another call from his sister, Ao Chen:
“Brother! Where are you? Dad is trapped in the hospital office. I heard there are the most zombies there! Dad has no food or water. I’m so scared something might happen to him!”
Ao Chen’s voice was tearful, and their mother’s voice sounded nearby:
“Xiao Xin, how’s your school? Protect yourself. Mom and Dad will find a way to rescue you.”
Ao Xin quickly said:
“Mom, don’t worry! I’ve gained the power of the Devil Fruit. I’m really strong now! Just wait a bit longer—I’m almost home. Once I get back, I’ll rescue Dad!”
Hearing about the Devil Fruit power, Ao Chen’s sorrow turned to excitement:
“Really? Brother? What kind of fruit did you get? Zoan, Paramecia, or Logia? I hope it’s a Logia!”
Influenced by Ao Xin, Ao Chen was a big fan of One Piece and knew a lot about various Devil Fruits.
Ao Xin smiled: “It’s Teacher Kai’s Azure Dragon Fruit, a Mythical Zoan! Even stronger than Logia!”
“Wow!” Ao Chen immediately recalled a video someone had uploaded on the Divine Space Communication Channel:
“Brother, is that the Azure Dragon in the video you? So cool!”
“Can you destroy the heavens and earth like Teacher Kai now?”
Ao Xin chuckled: “Both Devil Fruit powers and Haki consume stamina. Where would I have the strength for that now?”
