Chapter 56: Fourth Uncle, Can You Give Me a Chance?
As far as Nan Xing knew, Pei Tingfan led a busy yet strictly routine life, essentially maintaining a predictable trajectory between his corporate headquarters and the ancestral estate every single day.
Running into Pei Tingfan frequently was by no means an easy task.
If she could successfully secure an internship at the Pei Corporation this time around, it would provide Nan Xing with the precise opportunity she needed to get close to him.
Pei Tingfan narrowed his sharp, slender eyes, his gaze brimming with shrewd scrutiny as he fixedly assessed Nan Xing. "And what other reason is there?"
As his words trailed off, Nan Xing met his deep, profound gaze with absolute composure. "The rest, naturally, is because of Fourth Uncle."
"Because of me?"
Pei Tingfan’s expression remained utterly undisturbed as he raised a hand to take a sip of coffee.
Nan Xing’s remark seemed entirely within his expectations.
With bold and unhesitating candor, Nan Xing replied, "Is there anyone in the outside world who has not heard of the Pei Corporation? And who could possibly be ignorant of Pei Tingfan, the formidable overlord of Beixin?"
"At such a young age, Fourth Uncle single-handedly forged a commercial empire and secured absolute control over the economic lifeline of the entire city of Beixin. To have the privilege of working alongside Fourth Uncle would be my utmost honor."
Nan Xing was not offering empty flattery; she was simply stating the facts.
Ever since Pei Tingfan established the Pei Corporation, no one had ever been able to shake its paramount, peerless position.
In the span of just a few short years, the corporation had swallowed up dozens of large and small enterprises across Beixin, rising to become the undisputed industry leader and standing alone at the pinnacle of success.
Countless people looked up to Pei Tingfan’s reputation and status, fiercely fighting tooth and nail just for a chance to cooperate with the Pei Corporation.
Yet whether a partnership would happen or not was something only Pei Tingfan alone could decide.
Furthermore, Pei Tingfan was not only remarkably young, but he also possessed a face that provoked the jealousy of both gods and men.
Blessed with both supreme lineage and an illustrious background, his striking physique and handsome features served merely as the finishing touch, rendering him the ultimate object of desire for millions of young women.
Even sharing a meal with him was a luxury people desperately yearned for.
Nan Xing was no exception. If she could gaze upon that breathtakingly handsome face every single day, why on earth would she pass up the opportunity?
Hearing her words, Pei Tingfan leaned forward slightly and said with a teasing note in his voice, "Wanting to work at the Pei Corporation requires more than just a glib tongue. What was your major in university?"
Naturally, Nan Xing understood that a giant enterprise like the Pei Corporation would never harbor idle loafers.
"Fourth Uncle, my major was administrative management. I consider my theoretical foundation quite solid; I simply lack practical internship experience."
Nan Xing blinked, adding playfully, "Could Fourth Uncle perhaps grant me a chance?"
"The secretary's office will be recruiting new members soon. Rest well for a couple of days, and we'll discuss it after I return from my business trip."
Pei Tingfan’s voice was clear and gentle. As his gaze drifted down to Nan Xing’s crimson lips, his Adam's apple bobbed slightly.
With Pei Tingfan dropping that hint, Nan Xing securing a position at the Pei Corporation was virtually guaranteed, and the heavy stone that had been weighing on her heart finally plummeted safely into place.
"Then get some early rest tonight, Fourth Uncle. I'm going off to bed."
Seeing that Pei Tingfan had not yet finished his work, Nan Xing bade him goodnight and discreetly withdrew from the study.
That night at Cuiyin Bay, Nan Xing slept quite soundly.
At the crack of dawn the next morning, Nan Xing woke up early and was summoned downstairs by Pei Tingfan to have breakfast.
She had initially assumed he had ordered takeout from outside, never expecting that he had prepared it himself.
For someone as lofty and untouchable as Pei Tingfan, being able to taste a meal personally cooked by him was likely a privilege in its own right.
Two bowls of steaming white porridge rested on the marble dining table, accompanied by exquisite little porcelain dishes containing pickled radish strips, long beans, and other savory side dishes.
As Nan Xing descended the stairs, Pei Tingfan was using a pair of scissors to snip deep-fried dough sticks into bite-sized pieces and neatly arranging them on a plate.
Sunlight poured in through the floor-to-ceiling windows, casting a warm glow across the man's broad shoulders and back. Clad in a light-colored loungewear set, Pei Tingfan looked remarkably warm and gentle.
Hearing the sound of footsteps, Pei Tingfan swiftly finished tending to the dough sticks.
"Come eat."
Noticing Nan Xing's arrival, Pei Tingfan pulled out a chair and cast a sideways glance at the sleepy-eyed young woman.
Nan Xing was dressed in a floral cotton-linen dress today, her hair casually braided into two loose pigtails. Having just woken up, she hadn't yet applied any makeup, stripping away her usual formidable and proud aura.
With a bare, natural face, she exuded a softer, more playful charm.
"It smells amazing, Fourth Uncle." Catching the delicate fragrance of the white porridge, Nan Xing seated herself across from Pei Tingfan, who promptly placed a freshly fried sunny-side-up egg into her bowl.
Dropping her gaze, Nan Xing noticed the fried egg was shaped like a heart.
She couldn't help but admire Pei Tingfan's culinary skills.
"Your cooking is truly wonderful, Fourth Uncle." Nan Xing took a sip of the porridge, which had sweet chunks of sweet potato mixed in, lending it a melting, velvety sweetness.
In her previous perception, Pei Tingfan belonged to the category of people who had never lifted a finger to do physical labor in their lives.
Yet at this moment, her entire perception of him had been thoroughly upended.
At the dining table, Pei Tingfan ate in quiet elegance.
Nan Xing, on the other hand, intermittently replied to a few messages on WeChat.
Because of her recent remarks, the chat group titled "The CEO's Wife's Lounge" had grown lively once again.
Qiao Xin even went out of her way to send a private message to Nan Xing detailing her new job.
Nan Xing didn't say much, simply urging her to seize the opportunity and get along harmoniously with everyone.
[Xingxing, how is your job hunt going?]
Subconsciously, Nan Xing glanced at Pei Tingfan across the table. The man was currently picking up a piece of dough stick with his chopsticks, his movements graceful and reserved.
Nan Xing: [Well, my target is the Pei Corporation.]
[The Pei Corporation?]
As soon as Nan Xing sent the message, the dormitory chat group erupted once again.
Liu Xiaobei: [Xingxing, you're not joking, are you? Do you have any idea how difficult it is to get into the Pei Corporation? That's the undisputed number-one corporate giant in Beixin City.]
[Not to sound discouraging, but neither of us has graduated into society yet, and we have zero internship experience. Applying to the Pei Corporation gives you literally zero chance of winning.]
Qiao Xin: [Nothing is absolute. I think Xingxing shows admirable courage; what if their boss just happens to like someone like her?]
Nan Xing: [You're the only one who truly understands me. Sending hearts~~]
Liu Xiaobei: [I suddenly remembered something. Isn't Nan Zhen'er on very close terms with the young master of the Pei family? The boss of the Pei Corporation is none other than Pei Tingfan, Young Master Pei's fourth uncle!]
Nan Xing blinked her peach-blossom eyes, a flicker of excitement hidden deep within her gaze: [So what?]
Liu Xiaobei: [??]
Nan Xing: [?]
Liu Xiaobei: [That's Pei Sichen's fourth uncle we're talking about! The formidable overlord of Beixin. Word has it that he has an eccentric personality, acts with ruthless precision, and shows absolutely no mercy.]
[Xingxing, didn't you just offend Nan Zhen'er? Aren't you afraid she'll badmouth you to that Pei family young master, who will then complain directly to Pei Tingfan?]
[When things blow up later, even if you manage to land an internship at the Pei Corporation initially, a single word from Pei Tingfan will probably have you packing your bags and getting chased out...]
Nan Xing sent a pouting sticker emoji: [I'm not easily frightened, you know. Besides, I trust the CEO's character; he certainly wouldn't make things difficult for a lowly intern like me.]
Once Nan Xing's message was sent, the other members of the group suddenly fell silent.
Why did Nan Xing's words just now sound as though her relationship with this CEO was anything but ordinary?
Nan Xing: [Please stay tuned and watch. I will definitely enter the Pei Corporation and successfully stay there.]
