Chapter 31: Nan Xing Is My Father, And He Is Your Forefather Too
“Uncle Han, it’s been a few days—hope all is well.”
Nan Xing tossed a slice of tangerine into her mouth, her smile radiant.
Startled, Han Zhenglong quickly shut the door. “I say, little ancestor, are you trying to drive me to my doom?”
Nan Xing replied, “How could I dare?”
“Is there anything you wouldn’t dare?” Han Zhenglong sat opposite her on the sofa, shooting her a playful glare. “You’re about to graduate—can’t you behave a little? If it weren’t for your godfather, I might have lost my patience by now...”
“Uncle Han, please don’t mention this to my godfather. He works tirelessly for the country every day; he doesn’t have time to fret over trivial matters like me.”
Nan Xing’s clear, peach-blossom eyes sparkled as she took a moment to reply to a WeChat message from Qiao Xin.
Qiao Xin and several other roommates had already returned to the dorm and were a bit worried about Nan Xing. They wanted to know how she was doing and whether the dean had made things difficult for her.
Seeing Nan Xing’s casual demeanor, Han Zhenglong picked up his trusty thermos, took a sip of water, and cleared his throat. “This has even made it onto the campus forum—still just a small matter?”
“Tell me, what exactly happened?”
Nan Xing didn’t hold back and recounted the entire story in detail.
After listening, Han Zhenglong frowned. “Such moral decay? This truly tarnishes our school’s reputation!”
---
“It’s no surprise—they’re bullying me because I just arrived and have no backing.”
Han Zhenglong removed his glasses to clean the lenses, his tone indulgent. “Alright, I understand. You focus on your internship for now; leave the rest to me.”
Reassured by his words, Nan Xing left the dean’s office with a light step.
It felt almost like she had just come for a visit.
When Nan Xing returned to the dorm, Qiao Xin and the others immediately gathered around her. “Nan Xing, nothing serious happened, right? What did the dean say?”
“This has caused such a stir; the entire school knows about it. The principal didn’t mention expelling you, did he?”
“Yeah, Xingxing, what’s the real story? How did you offend Nan Zhen’er and Xi Meng? I heard that Nan Zhen’er is not someone to mess with—she’s the eldest daughter of the Nan family.”
“By the way, I heard from a wealthy senior that Nan Zhen’er might have some connection with the young master of the Li family. Looks like two powerful families might be planning a marriage alliance.”
“Is that so?” Nan Xing smiled faintly, secretly scoffing in her heart.
What was the Nan family nowadays? Just a camel that’s grown thin but still bigger than a horse.
She could only say that those Nan family members were good at putting on a show.
Seeing everyone so concerned, Nan Xing calmly said, “When you stand upright, there’s nothing to fear from crooked shadows. Everyone can rest assured.”
---
With that, Nan Xing went to her desk and casually opened her laptop, beginning to browse through the major job recruitment sites.
Nan Xing was studying Public Administration, a field with broad career prospects. Yet, since she hadn’t graduated yet, finding a suitable internship wasn’t so easy.
Han Zhenglong had recommended several large companies to her—all places where he had old acquaintances. Interning there would have made her life quite comfortable.
But Nan Xing had her own preferences.
As she scrolled, a recruitment notice from the Li Corporation popped up.
Unfortunately, the position was for short-video operations, which didn’t align with her major.
Nan Xing lowered her head, her fingers aimlessly tapping the screen, a complex emotion spreading quietly within her.
Just then, her roommate Liu Xiaobei let out a sharp scream. “Look! Someone with the nickname ‘Nan Xing is my father and even your ancestor’ posted on the forum, defending Xing! There’s even complete surveillance footage!”
