Chapter 22: It Seems You Have Had Your Fill of Comfort
"So, you remember now?"
"F-Fourth Uncle," Nan Xing stammered, unable to find her voice.
Seeing the look in Li Beitian’s eyes, which was quite different from his usual expression, she couldn't help but feel a surge of doubt. Could Fourth Uncle be angry about what just happened?
Settling on this thought, Nan Xing stepped closer to him and tugged gently on his sleeve, aggrieved. "Fourth Uncle, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to earlier; that drink was tampered with. Zhang Biao did something to it. It’s a good thing you showed up when you did."
Zhang Biao? Him again.
Li Beitian finally understood where the problem lay. Seeing the young girl’s aggrieved expression and her reddened eyes, he couldn't bear to say anything more. He softened his tone and warned, "No more drinking from now on. Do you understand?"
"Yes, I understand, Fourth Uncle."
It was the first time she had seen Li Beitian look so stern, so Nan Xing nodded obediently, agreeing with uncharacteristic readiness.
Li Beitian’s lips curled in satisfaction. He walked to the window and made a phone call, his demeanor shifting instantly. "I want to see the Zhang family wiped out of Beixin within the hour."
"Understood, Fourth Master."
The person on the other end was brief and concise, showing absolute obedience to Li Beitian’s command. Standing respectfully to the side, Nan Xing listened to his domineering, non-negotiable tone, and his image in her heart grew taller in an instant.
Hanging up, Li Beitian turned around, took off his coat, and draped it over Nan Xing’s shoulders. "Let's go. I’ll take you back."
Nan Xing’s lips parted, but she didn’t refuse, pulling the coat tighter around herself. Li Beitian must have been smoking; his clothes carried the faint scent of tobacco. Yet, it wasn't unpleasant at all—it was fresh and sharp, blended with a subtle hint of sandalwood, like frost clinging to branches after a snowfall.
As the two left the presidential suite, Bo Qijin was nowhere to be seen, leaving behind only a pile of cigarette ash and the thick, lingering scent of tobacco in the hallway. Li Beitian frowned, ignored him, and followed Nan Xing into the elevator.
Her phone chimed.
Nan Xing glanced down and saw that someone had sent her two friend requests.
[Little Seven, it’s Sixth Brother. I’m in Beixin today; please accept this request.]
[Qi-Qi, see this and accept it. Sixth Brother brought you a gift.]
Nan Xing’s lips curved upward, a glimmer of schadenfreude hidden in her eyes as she accepted the friend request.
[Qi-Qi, why did it take you so long to accept?]
[A day without seeing you feels like three autumns. Have you missed your Sixth Brother?]
[Sixth Brother is the best, right? The moment I arrived in Beixin, I sent you a message. Where are you, Qi-Qi? Sixth Brother will take you out for a feast.]
Almost as soon as she accepted, the messages came in like a bombardment.
Nan Xing glanced at the cold, indifferent man beside her and let her slender fingers dance across the screen: *Sixth Brother is so kind, still remembering this little sister of yours.*
[Since I’ve finally made it to Beixin, I couldn’t possibly forget my favorite little sister. For you, I even abandoned my best friend; he’s called me three times today, and I haven’t picked up once.]
Nan Xing: "..."
If she hadn't seen it with her own eyes, she might have actually believed him.
[Little Seven, here is my address. Come visit when you have time.]
He sent a location pin, showing the address as the No. 9 Mansion in Zhonghai.
*Oh?* Nan Xing stared at the words "No. 9 Mansion" and paused for a moment.
[Little Seven, I can't talk right now, I have another call coming in. Come visit Sixth Brother when you have time.]
[Okay, go ahead and be busy, Sixth Brother.]
Just as Nan Xing sent the message, Li Beitian’s phone rang.
The two exchanged a glance, and Li Beitian pressed the answer button.
"Whoa, finally willing to pick up? I guess you've had your fill of fun! Tell me, Old Li, you’ve really gone off the rails this time. You actually stood me up for some irrelevant, ugly woman..."
