Chapter 14: The Scoundrel of the Nan Family
As Qin Peicen was preparing to leave, she caught sight of the scene and cried out in shock, rushing over to steady Nan Zhen’er, who was about to collapse.
“Nan Xing, how dare you strike my daughter? You’ve really gone against the heavens!”
Her precious little one wronged, Qin Peicen’s eyes filled with fury. She swung her handbag hard, aiming for Nan Xing’s face. The bag had hard embellishments, showing no mercy.
In the next moment, her wrist was effortlessly caught by the young girl.
“What’s this? You want to feel my slap too?” Nan Xing cracked her knuckles with force. Qin Peicen’s face twisted in pain as she cried out, dropping the Louis Vuitton bag to the floor.
“Nan Xing, I’m done playing today. From now on, this family will have either you or me, but not both!”
Seeing her mother losing ground, Nan Zhen’er’s eyes were bloodshot. She clutched her swollen face and charged forward, grappling with Nan Xing.
Even two against one, they were no match for Nan Xing.
With agile grace, Nan Xing swiftly brought them both down to the ground in a tangled heap.
Afterward, she brushed the dust off her hands, placed them on her slender hips, and remarked, “I’ve seen bound feet before, but never bound brains. Today, I’ve truly opened my eyes—two at once.”
“Just say it already—your foolishness is so creative, it’s almost impressive,” she added.
Nan Zhen’er’s face was already bruised and blotchy. She raised her head shamefully, tears glistening in her eyes. “Nan Xing, you’re truly despicable. Coveting my things is one thing, but daring to attack me and my mother? You should just go back to the countryside. You’re such a hillbilly, disgusting!”
“You little tramp—just like your dead mother! Always causing trouble, a disgrace to the Nan family!”
Qin Peicen picked herself up from the ground, flicking a piece of grass from her mouth. “Why don’t you just go die? If you were gone, maybe the marriage with the Li family would fall to Zhen’er. If it weren’t for you…”
“I’m not here, and yet everything’s in chaos?”
Nan Weiguo appeared on the steps without anyone noticing, his gaze sweeping over the three of them with anger etched across his face.
Immediately, everyone quieted down.
Nan Xing tugged at her lips, recalling she had important business to attend to, and started to leave.
“Wait,” Nan Weiguo said, noticing Nan Zhen’er’s tear-streaked, red eyes. He frowned with concern.
Then his sharp gaze landed on Nan Xing. “What exactly happened? Nan Xing, explain yourself!”
Judging by his accusatory tone, it sounded as if it were her fault.
So having a stepmother means having a stepfather too.
But such a father is better off without.
A trace of mockery flickered in Nan Xing’s eyes as she retorted, “If you were bitten by a dog, what would you do?”
One sentence that hit the nail on the head.
“Dad, it’s not like that at all. Nan Xing tried to steal my perfume, but I caught her. Then she refused to admit it and even attacked me!”
“Waaah, Daddy, my knee is scraped and it hurts so much…”
Nan Weiguo swallowed his anger and didn’t even ask further. Instead, he smiled and comforted her, “It’s just a bottle of perfume, no big deal. If Nan Xing likes it, just give it to her. I’ll buy you an even bigger and better one later.”
Then he turned to Nan Xing. “No matter what happens, Zhen’er is your sister. Aunt Qin treats you like her own daughter. How can you treat them like that? Xing’er, be obedient and apologize to Aunt Qin and your sister. Then I’ll forgive you.”
Nan Xing almost laughed at that, replying confidently, “A child’s failure to learn is the father’s fault. Since you insist it’s my fault, then you should apologize on my behalf. I, Nan Xing, would be forever grateful.”
