Chapter 47: Being immune to his poison doesn’t make things that easy to handle

The three little ones of the Su family were not as thoughtful as the adults; all they knew was that there was still some leftover rice in the pot. The three of them, bowls in hand, gathered around the rice pot with eager eyes. "Grandpa, Grandma, Dad, Mom, there’s still some rice left! Can we have just a little? Just a tiny bit!"
Rice! They hadn’t tasted rice for such a long, long time! Though the dishes they had every day were delicious, they still longed for rice and noodles.
The adults exchanged glances. Finally, Old Madam Su spoke up, "Let’s divide the leftover rice. Although that person came in an unusual way, judging by how he carries himself, he seems to have some discipline."
Su Er, who had been cursing earlier, seized the opportunity when his mother gave permission and rushed to the pot. "I’ll serve it! Mom’s right, that person is quite proper. When he left, he personally said rice and noodles would cover the meal costs! Since we’re sharing the meal, we can’t let him eat for free! Oh, finally some rice to eat! Just smelling it, I could eat two big bowls even without the dishes!"
Seeing this, Su Da also grabbed a bowl in each hand and went to the pot. "Eat! Let’s serve Dad and Mom first, then divide the rest!"
There wasn’t much rice left in the pot. Su Xiu’er, fearing trouble for the family, had not dared to cook too much rice, estimating just enough for one man.
With so many people sharing, what they got was mostly just the leftover crusts stuck to the pot.
Su Xiu’er said, "Should I cook some more? This rice and noodles were meant for us to eat together."
"Let’s skip this meal, cook more next time. Otherwise, by the time we finish, the sun will be setting," Old Man Su glanced at the small jars peeking out of the rice sack, thought for a moment, then opened them one by one. "Hey! Oil, salt, soy sauce, vinegar! Well, well, looks like he’s planning to stay with us long-term? Didn’t like our seasonings, so he brought his own!"
Everyone’s eyes lit up again.
"Seasonings! Good stuff! Finally, some taste to the food!"
Due to limited resources, the household had long run out of oil and salt. Their daily dishes were plain, mostly relying on the meat’s aroma to add flavor.
Su Er was satisfied. "That guy named Broken Blade is quite capable. He managed to bring rice, noodles, oil, and salt. You think he bought them in Windstorm City?"
Su Da, having been to Windstorm City and knowing more about the exile lands, said, "You can’t buy this stuff anywhere but in Windstorm City."
The family exchanged looks and then quietly ate their rice.
Anyone who could come and go freely in Windstorm City was not just capable — such a person could only be described in four words: not to be offended.
Old Madam Su, half-scolding and half-feigning anger, admonished her little granddaughter while eating, "How can you be so bold? You dared to touch someone’s sword and even hit him! You can’t do that next time. If he got angry, Grandpa and Grandma wouldn’t be able to protect you, dear!"
Sweet Treasure lifted her little face, blinking her eyes innocently, looking both naïve and adorable.
Old Madam Su was left speechless, all her anger gone.

Meanwhile, after leaving the Su family, Broken Blade first went to Wanjia Village before returning to the ruined temple.
The mad old man was raging again, a tangled nest of hair trembling atop his head. "What were you thinking? Huh? Quitting just like that! Fine, you want to return the silver, but you even gave away the last bottle of my precious wound medicine! Do you know how much the herbs I use cost? Eighteen different ingredients! You spend like a spendthrift! And you say this task is difficult? It’s a piece of cake! You won’t even take the free silver, I’m done with you!"
When the old man paused to catch his breath, Broken Blade spoke coldly, "I drank the wine, but I won’t pay."
"So you’re using my stuff to settle the debt?! Do you think I run a silver shop? I don’t care, give me back the herbs!"
"No, I’ll help you with the task."
"Then take the task back!"
"No way."
"Why? You were tailing the target for days, then suddenly quit without telling me why? We’ve known each other for years, and I can’t get a straight answer from you? Don’t tell me it’s because of the Su family’s delicious food! I don’t buy that!"
Broken Blade fell silent for a moment.
Just as the mad old man was about to lose his temper again, Fang Dao said, "That kid, she understands my sword."
The mad old man squatted down in front of the man, picking at his ear with his pinky. "What did you say?"
"She understood it—the Moon-Drinking Chant."
"…"
The old man’s expression gradually softened, the mischievous look vanished. He stared silently at the man for a long moment before standing up and patting his butt. "That kid’s at most six months old, right? A demon in the making? She tricked me out of a Heavenly Mountain Snow Lotus... My wound medicine, eighteen herbs — if I don’t get them all back, we’re done! Hmph!"
"Mm."
As the old man was about to leave, he suddenly turned back. "Is the Su family’s cooking really that good?"
The man closed his eyes and resumed pretending to nap. "More meat."
"Ahem, you rest a bit, I’ll go out and see if I can catch a big fat fish. Life’s tough!"
"Look for the Magpie Tower, the fattest there."
"…"
Damn it, I was just about to go there!
The kitchen at Magpie Tower was the only one in Windstorm City that suited his taste.
Leaving the ruined temple, the mad old man listened cautiously at the door, then brightened and happily rushed toward Mount Tubei.
Page 3/3
He wanted to see if the little demon child had three heads and six arms! And to check out the Su family kitchen.
Heh heh!
Fifty taels of silver and a Heavenly Mountain Snow Lotus, all because the Su family lost a child.
He wasn’t as easy to fool as Broken Blade! Not so easy to deal with!
What’s owed to him must be paid back!
No money? Then bleed and cut flesh for me!
The sun gradually slanted westward, but the Su family’s courtyard remained lively.
The residents of Mount Tubei had just started their vegetable gardens, hurriedly sowing seeds. At this time, they wished the day had twelve hours so they could guard the seedlings and not miss a moment of growth.
With nothing pressing to do in the afternoon, the Su family stayed home, wandering toward the garden to chat with the planters, listening to village gossip, and learning more about the surroundings of Mount Tubei.
Old Madam Su stayed in the family yard with her two daughters-in-law and daughter, bringing some firewood out of the kitchen to dry in the sun.
The three boys played and joked at the entrance of the main room, wielding little wooden sticks and humming as they mimicked the fierce uncle who could split firewood with a single strike of energy.
The afternoon sun was strong. Sweet Treasure was placed in a basket near the door of the main room. Aside from eating on schedule, she required little supervision, so everyone felt at ease.
No one knew how bored Sweet Treasure was.
She wasn’t really just a few months old anymore, but the circumstances forced her to lie in the basket or bamboo cradle every day. It was terribly dull.
Bored Sweet Treasure, hearing her brothers’ playful noise, could only play by herself.
Plucking a flower from her space, she threw it away.
Picking a fruit, she tossed it aside.
Pulling some ginseng roots, she threw them away.
The mad old man, perched atop the Su family’s roof, sneaked a hole through the thatch and mud and peered down. His eyes met those of the little baby in the basket directly below.
"..."
At that moment, the baby still clutched a petal in her hand.
