Chapter 54 Take a Look at the Good Son You Have Raised
Ji Tianxing covered his face in despair.
At this moment, he had clearly realized that Ji Yun was completely beyond saving.
Ji Yun remained utterly oblivious to the fact that it was his own foolish behavior on the Void Divine Battle Arena that had nearly brought a catastrophic disaster upon the Ji family.
He didn't even feel that his actions could have brought such ruin to the family.
Although the ultimate outcome ended in victory, and all his "popularity" and "image" had been successfully recovered, he failed to reflect upon or recognize his mistakes in the slightest.
Watching Ji Yun's hopeless demeanor, Ji Tianxing angrily smashed his smartphone onto the ground.
"Look at this yourself! Look at it! Open your eyes and take a good, hard look!"
Hearing the commotion coming from the ancestral hall, Li Guizhen hurried over immediately and pushed the ancestral hall door wide open.
Seeing Li Guizhen barging in, Ji Tianxing was instantly consumed with irritation. "What are you doing in here?!"
"Why shouldn't I be allowed in?! I am Xiaoyun's mother! What are you yelling and shouting about? What if you scare Xiaoyun?!"
"I want to see what you're trying to make Xiaoyun look at! What on earth could make you this angry?!"
With that, Li Guizhen snatched the phone out of Ji Yun's hand.
The phone screen had been shattered by Ji Tianxing in his fit of rage, but fortunately, the inner display was intact, so it didn't affect viewing.
"Look at you! Getting so angry that you broke the phone!" Li Guizhen glared at Ji Tianxing, but the next second, her expression shifted to one of utter astonishment as she looked at him.
"W-What is this all about?!" Li Guizhen asked in shock. "Nangong Zhongjian is going to resign?! Why would he do that?!"
"What else could it be?!" Ji Tianxing said angrily. "Because of Ji Yun's moronic performance on the void arena today! He got played like a monkey by that little Japanese bastard!"
"What do you mean played like a monkey?! Didn't our Xiaoyun win?!" Li Guizhen retorted indignantly. "We won! We brought glory to our country!"
"You actually think—" Ji Tianxing swallowed back the words that were right on the tip of his tongue, and roared, "Before the true form of Yinglong appeared, did you think Ji Yun stood a chance of winning?! Huh?!"
"This..." Li Guizhen faltered, her lips twitching as she mumbled, "This... well..."
"Exactly! Even we thought he was bound to lose! What would the top brass of the Dragon Kingdom think?!" Ji Tianxing immediately fired back. "Would they hold Nangong Zhongjian, the one in charge of this matter, accountable for this?! Would they?!"
"Would they vent their anger on Nangong Zhongjian because of this? Would they implicate our Ji family as well?!"
"Did you or did you not receive a notice this afternoon that the relevant authorities are opening an investigation into our Ji family?! Did you?!"
Li Guizhen was left utterly speechless by Ji Tianxing's machine-gun-like volley of questions, completely unable to defend herself.
Taking a deep breath, Ji Tianxing said, "Take a look at the fine son you've raised! Look at him properly!"
"A mere few words from some little Japanese bastard were enough to throw him into a blind rage and completely ruin his composure!"
Then, Ji Tianxing glared directly at Ji Yun and shouted, "How many times have I told you! Is your capacity really no larger than the tip of a needle?!"
"A few casual remarks from someone else are enough to provoke you! Where is your poise?! Where is your depth?!"
"Just look at how you acted back then! There wasn't an ounce of the demeanor expected of a nation's major general! You looked completely like a lunatic who had escaped from an asylum!"
"How many times must I tell you to broaden your perspective! Broaden your mind! Why won't you ever listen?!"
"Enough! Stop yelling at my son!" Hearing Ji Tianxing's harsh words, Li Guizhen's maternal instincts flared up with heartache. She hurriedly pulled her son into her arms, looking at him with immense distress as she said, "There, there, Xiaoyun, stop kneeling, get up quickly!"
"You've been kneeling for six hours! If your father doesn't care about you, your mother does!"
At this moment, Ji Yun was finally overcome with a lingering sense of terror and a belated wave of panic.
Looking back at the Divine Battle, when he had been infuriated by Damu Gaoliang and launched into a chaotic, mad frenzy of attacks, anyone would have naturally concluded he was a good-for-nothing wastrel with zero capability.
If that had been the case, everything he had painstakingly built up regarding his public image would have been completely destroyed.
Had it not been for the sudden appearance of Yinglong's true form, which completely turned the tide and won the divine battle, he probably would have been doomed beyond redemption by now, and the Ji family along with him.
Ji Yun promptly knelt straight again, looked at Ji Tianxing, and confessed his fault, "Dad, I-I know I was wrong. Please don't be angry anymore."
Seeing that the look of repentance on Ji Yun's face did not seem feigned, Ji Tianxing's anger finally subsided a little.
Li Guizhen immediately chimed in, "Alright! Our son already knows he was wrong! Why won't you let him get up already?!"
However, Ji Yun shook his head and said, "Mom, please don't spoil me too much. Dad is right; I did something wrong, and being punished with kneeling is only right."
Hearing these words, Li Guizhen was overwhelmed by maternal love, tears streaming down her face from heartache. "My good son, why are you so sensible! And then look at that Ji Ling; he's dead set on destroying this family!"
"We came from the exact same womb, so why is the gap between you two so huge?!"
Ji Tianxing shot a fierce glare at Li Guizhen.
If Ji Ling hadn't intervened today, allowing Yinglong's true form to appear on the arena and turn the situation around, the Ji family would have been completely finished.
It was Ji Ling who had saved the Ji family.
Yet here was Li Guizhen, still running Ji Ling down.
Still, Ji Tianxing could not explain the truth to Li Guizhen; after all, he himself bore some responsibility for Li Guizhen turning out this way and holding such thoughts about Ji Ling.
"Alright, Mom, you go outside first," Ji Yun urged, gently pushing Li Guizhen toward the door. "Dad probably has other things to discuss with me."
Weeping and wiping her tears, Li Guizhen left the ancestral hall. This time, exercising extra caution, Ji Tianxing immediately bolted the door of the ancestral hall from the inside before turning his gaze back to Ji Yun.
"Do you really know you were wrong?" Ji Tianxing asked in a cold, stern voice.
Ji Yun nodded and said, "I know I was wrong, Dad! Truly!"
"I was just too easily provoked. It was entirely my fault!"
Seeing the sincere attitude with which Ji Yun admitted his fault, Ji Tianxing's heart finally softened somewhat. He sighed, waved a hand, and said, "Get up."
Only then did Ji Yun slowly stand up and help Ji Tianxing over to sit in the grand master's chair.
With a heavy sigh, Ji Tianxing finally spoke at a measured pace, "Alright, nothing more needs to be said. This was simply a matter you needed to recognize and understand."
Ji Yun nodded. At this moment, he was exceptionally humble. Arrogant and brooding though he might be, it did not mean he was a fool.
He had been too detached from the bigger picture and blinded by rage, which was why he had failed to grasp the gravity of the stakes involved.
