Chapter 8: All the Good Cabbages Are Being Rooted Up by Pigs
At 7:30 PM, Huang Feiyang changed into a white casual outfit and headed downstairs. After a moment of thought, he made his way to the garage. His supercar had been delivered just yesterday, and as for his driver’s license, he had obtained it the moment he turned eighteen.
"It’s certainly nice to have wealthy parents," Huang Feiyang muttered to himself while appraising the Ferrari before him, a look of reflection crossing his face. A score of 300? It was clear that his parents had merely been saying that in jest; they had likely ordered this supercar for him long ago.
Before long, the roar of an engine echoed through the air as Huang Feiyang drove off in his new ride. Close behind, two Mercedes-Benz sedans followed at a steady pace. Without a doubt, his four bodyguards occupied those vehicles.
"It’s good to be young!" Old Lin remarked, watching the three cars disappear from the villa entrance. Yet, he understood that Huang Feiyang wouldn't be able to enjoy such carefree days for much longer. The boss and his wife were already preparing to put the young master through professional training to become their successor. After all, he was the only heir to the third generation of the Huang family. Once he graduated from university, he would begin the gradual process of inheriting the family fortune.
In front of the Yang City International Hotel, beneath the night sky, a large group of fashionably dressed young men and women gathered to chat. A cluster of people surrounded a cold, beautiful young woman—none other than Chen Xiruo. Dressed in a long, pristine white gown, she was peering around as if waiting for someone important. Her female classmates looked on with curiosity, while the boys were filled with envy. Could the person Chen Xiruo was waiting for be that guy, Huang Feiyang? A collective question crossed the minds of many of the students present.
"Wow!"
"What a handsome sports car!"
"So cool! It’s great to be rich!"
"Whose ride is that? Hiss!"
Suddenly, a chorus of exclamations erupted. Many turned their eyes toward the supercar slowly pulling up, their expressions filled with envy. A supercar? In this era, most people had only seen such things in films or on the news; for many, this was their first time seeing one in reality.
When the red Ferrari came to a stop and the handsome young man stepped out, the entire senior class of Grade 12, Class 8 was left breathless. Huang Feiyang? It was really him? Although they knew he was a wealthy second-generation heir, they hadn't imagined he would be this affluent—driving a supercar around at such a young age.
"Xiruo, you look beautiful!" Huang Feiyang’s eyes brightened as he walked up to Chen Xiruo, who was wearing a long, white evening gown.
"Smooth talker!" Chen Xiruo retorted with a roll of her eyes, though a flash of hidden delight flickered in her gaze. "And, aren't you being a bit too high-profile?" she added, glancing toward the nearby Ferrari.
"Ahem! It’s alright, I suppose!" Huang Feiyang replied with a sheepish, guilty laugh. In his past life, although he could barely afford a supercar, he had never been willing to spend the money. In this life, receiving such an expensive gift so easily—especially seeing the reactions of his classmates and passersby—inevitably inflated his vanity just a little. The feeling was even more exhilarating than the hundreds of millions of Hong Kong dollars he had earned in the financial markets of his previous life.
Several girls who had initially intended to strike up a conversation with Huang Feiyang stopped in their tracks upon seeing the dazzling Chen Xiruo at his side, feeling a sense of inferiority in her presence.
After some idle chatter, the group headed into the hotel. Soon, the party officially began. The homeroom teacher and various subject teachers took turns giving speeches, and many students were moved to tears as they shared their farewells. Graduation season is a season of parting; for many, this meeting might be the last, as gathering again would be nearly impossible.
Since the class had reserved the entire floor, the party was quite informal. Students chatted in small groups, enjoying the food. It wasn't until he heard the hushed comments of some girls nearby that Huang Feiyang realized Chen Xiruo had organized the event herself, even covering all the expenses.
"Xiruo! Isn't this a bit too extravagant?" Huang Feiyang teased.
"This amount of money doesn't mean much to either of us, does it?" Chen Xiruo replied with a serene smile, taking a sip of the fruit juice in her glass. "How much did you estimate your score on the college entrance exam?" she asked, her gaze sharpening as she locked eyes with him. "And which school do you plan to apply to?"
"If it's not a perfect score, it’s probably close," Huang Feiyang said hesitantly, rubbing his nose.
Chen Xiruo felt a headache coming on, but considering his incredible capabilities, she supposed it wasn't impossible. Having a photographic memory was no different from using a cheat code. Besides, through their recent interactions, she knew he might have truly mastered all the knowledge from his three years of high school.
"Then which school are you going to?" she asked after a moment of silence. "And what major?"
"Wherever you apply, I apply! Whatever major you choose, I choose!" Huang Feiyang answered without a second's hesitation, a brilliant smile on his face.
Chen Xiruo’s lips curved into a charming arc, a ripple of emotion flashing through her eyes. It was strange—why wasn't she the girl next door in this lifetime? At that moment, a vision of another lovely, pitiable "girl next door" drifted into Huang Feiyang's mind. *Bah!* He chided himself silently. *What a scumbag I am, thinking of other girls at a time like this!*
"It's a deal, then!" Chen Xiruo said with a sweet smile, extending her fair right hand and holding out her pinky finger.
"Deal." Huang Feiyang nodded, hooking his pinky with hers.
Watching this, many of those around them seemed to hear the sound of their own hearts breaking. They couldn't help but curse inwardly: *A perfectly good cabbage has been trampled by a pig! How hateful!*
