Chapter 28: History Follows the Exact Same Course
Following the media reports of George’s high-profile declaration, there was an immediate uproar across all sectors.
Some believed that FY Technology had become overly arrogant. Global recruitment for mobile industry research talent? And at top-tier salaries? While it was true that FY Technology was currently very profitable, that was only the present. Who could say what the future held? It was well known that scientific research was an incredibly expensive endeavor. Many predicted that FY Technology would eventually disappear into the annals of history due to a broken capital chain.
The tech industry, the mobile sector, and several renowned experts and professors shared similar views. They all felt that FY Technology was simply getting too big for its boots. Some executives from prominent mobile phone manufacturers even publicly mocked FY Technology and George directly.
"Research? Do you even have enough capital to keep a laboratory running?"
"Are you aware that the annual investment for global labs at major mobile phone brands runs into the hundreds of millions, if not billions of dollars?"
"A new brand that got lucky with three hit phones now delusions itself into thinking it can build its own laboratory and develop its own products? Truly ignorant!"
In contrast, many domestic netizens held a positive attitude. In their hearts, FY Technology was a Chinese mobile brand. If it wanted to invest heavily in research, that was a great thing! Who knew? Perhaps one day in the future, a Chinese mobile phone could become one of the top brands in the world.
"Little Pink": "This is a good thing! I don't understand why people are trashing this. Isn't doing research better than just using money to speculate on real estate?"
"Your Vermicelli": "Starting today, I am a die-hard fan of FY Technology!"
"Rational Observer": "Truth be told, research is not as simple as you think! It seems FY Technology has great ambition. I just want to know, will they really have enough capital to sustain it? Not to mention anything else, just researching chips to reach an international top-tier level would likely cost tens or hundreds of billions, and even then, success isn't guaranteed. Still, I support FY Technology!"
"Everything Has Spirit, Except Mosquitoes": "I really don't understand you people. When domestic companies don't do research, you say they only care about quick cash. Now that someone is openly pursuing research, you criticize them and mock them? Why don't you guys just fly to the moon?"
"Readers Who Love to Comment and Tip Are Either Handsome or Beautiful": "Actually, it's fine! I'm quite looking forward to FY's prospects. After all, they seem a bit different from other brands!"
"Passerby": "I'm more curious about how many people will be attracted by FY Technology's global recruitment."
Regarding the comments and mockery from various circles, neither FY Technology nor George showed any intention of responding. Huang Feiyang, who had just returned to his villa in the Imperial Capital, simply smiled and dismissed the matter upon hearing the news. Why bother caring so much about the opinions of others?
...
Returning to the villa that evening, both Chen Xiruo and Yang Yiyi were exceptionally surprised to see that Huang Feiyang had returned early.
"Huang Feiyang!"
"Brother Feiyang!"
The two beauties immediately ran toward him. Huang Feiyang had initially expected to embrace them both, but the two beauties stopped in their tracks as they reached him. They cast warning glances at each other. Clearly, they had reached some sort of agreement between themselves.
"Huang Feiyang, didn't you say you were going to stay in the United States for a month?" Chen Xiruo asked curiously, blinking her eyes.
"That's right!" Yang Yiyi echoed, looking equally curious.
"It was too boring over there, so I came back early," Huang Feiyang replied casually with a shrug.
In reality, there were reasons for his early return. On one hand, his short-selling layout was complete, and staying in the U.S. any longer served no purpose. Furthermore, he was worried that cashing out might attract unnecessary trouble. On the other hand, Huang Feiyang was concerned that history might deviate. Remaining in the U.S., on Wall Street, he felt no sense of security. Thus, after much thought, he decided to return early. As the saying goes, a gentleman does not stand under a dangerous wall.
Hearing his explanation, Chen Xiruo and Yang Yiyi rolled their eyes. Too boring? That excuse was a bit too flimsy. However, neither of them intended to dig deeper, choosing instead to tacitly change the subject.
The rest of the time was spent mostly with the two beauties talking while Huang Feiyang listened quietly. They spoke about their university campus lives and some matters regarding their families. They chatted until late into the night, had a midnight snack, and then headed off to rest.
The next day, Huang Feiyang had no intention of going to school with Chen Xiruo and the others. In his own words: "I've already taken the month off, it would be a waste not to use it, right?"
Though he said that, Huang Feiyang had no intention of idling. He began self-studying the four-year university curriculum. Beyond that, he also planned to teach himself hacking techniques and antique appraisal. This was his schedule for the near future. The affairs of his three companies were already on the right track; he had drawn the general direction and made development plans, so there was no need for him to intervene too much now.
Huang Feiyang’s interest in self-studying hacking was a sudden whim. Could he become the ultimate guardian of his future business empire? Besides, his rebirth felt like he had been equipped with cheats. Not only was his memory photographic, but his learning and comprehension abilities were terrifyingly strong. He couldn't let such talent go to waste, could he?
As for learning antique appraisal, it was because Huang Feiyang was preparing to start collecting antiques and calligraphy. Antiques would become a hot market in the coming years, and he wanted a slice of the pie. Although he could hire experts to help with authentication, learning it himself was just another useful skill to have.
When it was night in the Imperial Capital of China, it was coincidentally morning in New York. The trajectory of history unfolded exactly as it had in his previous life! The event that shocked the world had occurred. Watching the news on the internet and television, Chen Xiruo and Yang Yiyi had eyes wide with shock. Huang Feiyang, however, remained calm from beginning to end. He had known the historical trajectory all along; what was there to be so surprised about?
At this moment, Huang Feiyang's thoughts had already drifted to the clouds. He was wondering how much he would make from his short-selling orders. At the same time, world leaders were stunned. This incident immediately triggered emergency meetings within the high-level circles of various countries. They all had to consider and assess one pressing issue: what negative impact would this event have on the global economy, as well as the economy and trade of their own nations?
