Chapter 22: Your Husband, Boundless in Strength

Since Lu Yu had invoked his identity as the client, Jiang Mengnan could only obediently comply.
When she threw back the covers, her face was bright red.
Lu Yu let out a laugh. “Why is your face so red? Aren’t you hot?”
Jiang Mengnan lowered her head, not daring to look at him again.
She lifted the bowl and gulped down the hangover remedy in no time.
“There. Are you satisfied now, Mr. Client?” Jiang Mengnan licked the corner of her mouth and asked sullenly.
Seeing how dispirited she looked, Lu Yu could not resist teasing her. “I’m the one who was kissed without permission. Why are you the one who’s unhappy?”
Sure enough, the moment he said that, Jiang Mengnan perked up.
She shot him an indignant glare. “That was an accident. I didn’t do it on purpose, all right? Besides, that was my first kiss, and I gave it to someone like you for no reason at all…”
At that point, Jiang Mengnan abruptly cut herself off.
Realizing she had said too much, she concluded vaguely, “Anyway, I need some time to process this. Leave me alone for a while.”
With that, Jiang Mengnan pulled the covers over herself again, issuing him an indirect dismissal.
Lu Yu, however, showed no intention of leaving.
His attention was fixed entirely on the words “first kiss.”
Although he had already guessed that Jiang Mengnan’s tendency to blush so easily probably meant she had never been in love, hearing with his own ears that her first kiss had been given to him still came as a shock.
And perhaps there was a trace of secret delight as well?
Lu Yu raised a hand, wanting to comfort her.
But when he recalled the lonely look on Jiang Mengnan’s face the previous night, another sigh stirred in his heart.
Three years from now, there would be no ties between them at all.
Would keeping his distance be better for her?
After a long silence, Lu Yu withdrew his well-meant hand. “You barely ate breakfast either. I’ll have Butler Liu bring something in later.”
With that, Lu Yu rose and left, an unnatural expression crossing his face.
When she heard the soft click of the door closing, Jiang Mengnan lifted a corner of the covers and peeked outside.
Only after confirming that there was no one else in the room did she sit up and pat her chest, breathing heavily.
It had been unbearably stuffy beneath the covers.
And with the effects of her hangover not yet completely gone, Jiang Mengnan rubbed her throbbing head before collapsing back onto the bed.
The little energy she had painstakingly gathered had all been drained by what had just happened.
Lying on her side with nothing to do, Jiang Mengnan picked up her phone and checked on Zhang Jingyan.
“Jingyan, are you all right?”
When she had reached the bar the previous day, Zhang Jingyan had been surrounded by a group of handsome young men, laughing recklessly with a faint flush of drunkenness on her face.

She had no idea who had taken Zhang Jingyan home yesterday.
At that very moment, Zhang Jingyan, lying in an unfamiliar room, was wondering the same thing herself—how had she ended up here?
She forced her eyes open, slowly propped herself up, and looked around.
The only thing she could be certain of was that she was lying in an opulent room.
It was so enormous that she could not see its end at a glance.
Was she in a hotel?
When had she become so extravagant as to stay in such a luxurious suite?
Or had she been with another man…
At the thought, Zhang Jingyan lowered her head and looked at herself.
She was wearing an unfamiliar black nightdress, with a plunging neckline.
Pressing a hand to her forehead, Zhang Jingyan sensed that something was terribly wrong.
She tried to get out of bed, but her entire body felt as though it had been dismantled. She could barely move.
Suddenly, a man’s voice came from nearby. “You’re awake?”
The voice was familiar.
It was Lu Tianyu.
A faint sense of relief spread through Zhang Jingyan’s heart.
No longer struggling to sit up, she lay back down, pulled the covers over herself, and ignored Lu Tianyu completely.
Seeing how listless she was and how unwilling she seemed to speak to him, Lu Tianyu sighed. He came to the bedside and, shamelessly, lifted the covers and lay down beside her.
Zhang Jingyan turned over, presenting her back to him.
Lu Tianyu shifted closer and wrapped his arms around her from behind. “Are you still feeling unwell?”
Unwell—physically and emotionally exhausted to the point of misery.
But Zhang Jingyan was already used to it and could not be bothered to say anything more.
When she remained silent, Lu Tianyu’s hand began to wander. “Wife?”
“Was Mr. Lu not satisfied last night?” Zhang Jingyan pressed down on his hand and asked coldly.
Resting his head beside her neck, Lu Tianyu chuckled.
His warm breath brushed against her collarbone, and the faint shiver it provoked was impossible to miss.
Zhang Jingyan pressed her lips tightly together, afraid that an involuntary sigh might escape.
With her eyes closed and her senses drifting, she heard Lu Tianyu murmur beside her ear, “I barely had time to take care of you last night. How could I have had time for romance?”
Zhang Jingyan opened her eyes in surprise, and her hands unconsciously loosened their grip.
Nothing had happened last night?

While Zhang Jingyan was still stunned, Lu Tianyu moved over her and reclaimed the dominant position.
Under the influence of alcohol, Zhang Jingyan had no strength to resist.
All she could do was turn her face away to show her displeasure.
Lu Tianyu lowered his eyes and slowly leaned closer. “I know you’re angry, and you were drunk to the point of passing out. Don’t worry—I won’t take advantage of you.”
Hearing him speak with such lofty righteousness, Zhang Jingyan could not help but sneer.
Her provocative smile drew Lu Tianyu even closer.
His sensual lips reached the space behind her ear, and his captivating low voice continued, “But now it seems my darling has sobered up. In that case, I…”
“What are you planning to do?” Zhang Jingyan deliberately ignored his alluring, breath-laced voice and fixed him with a wary stare.
Her imposing attitude lasted only two seconds.
Lu Tianyu’s face was so close that she could not stop herself from glancing at him.
And once she did, she could no longer tear her gaze away from his narrow double-lidded eyes, his strong, straight nose, or those lips that seemed capable of saying anything.
Lu Tianyu placed a gentle kiss on her forehead. “I want to explain everything to you.”
Zhang Jingyan stubbornly replied, “What is there to explain?”
Tenderly brushing the loose strands of hair beside her face, Lu Tianyu spoke softly. “That night, I was here preparing our new home. I wanted to surprise you, but something unexpected happened at the company. On my way back, I ran into Rachel, which is why the paparazzi captured that scene.”
Lu Tianyu spoke calmly and convincingly, his expression completely open.
As Zhang Jingyan studied him, her defenses gradually began to fall.
Lu Tianyu advanced by retreating. “How about I show you around our new home?”
Hearing the sincerity in his voice, Zhang Jingyan softened a little.
Seizing the opportunity, Lu Tianyu lifted her into his arms. “Let’s start with the bedroom. The bedding and toiletries are all from brands you like. Do you approve?”
Carrying her around, Lu Tianyu made Zhang Jingyan feel a little self-conscious. She lightly patted his chest. “I can walk by myself.”
Lu Tianyu shook his head. “You drank so much yesterday. How could you have the strength to walk? Your husband is stronger than an ox.”
Hearing his playful remark, Zhang Jingyan could not help shaking her head and laughing.
Lu Tianyu turned around and carried her back to the bed.
“Not showing me the rest?” Zhang Jingyan asked in confusion.
She was actually rather eager to see what their new home looked like.
She had not expected that the little tour just now had merely been a pretext.
Lu Tianyu gave her a devilish smile, his eyes filled with possessiveness. “We can look later. First, I have to prove something.”
