Pi Zhibang bowed and handed over the lighter, his face brimming with a forced smile, humbly explaining to the foreigner, "Sir, everything was perfectly arranged yesterday. There were a total of eleven gunmen—six from the big circle backing the armed robbers, and the remaining five were the contacts."
"The uniformed team cleaned up the scene and found over a hundred shell casings and even a grenade. Who would have thought Lin was such a marksman now? He’s completely different from before."
Henry, the foreigner, furrowed his brows, straightened his posture, and looked him squarely in the eye, enunciating the name clearly, "Lin Tiansheng—how was he before?"
Pi Zhibang put away the lighter and sneered, "Not to offend, but he was a useless thug who collected protection money for corrupt cops. If it weren’t for his hometown ties with Lü Le, he’d never have been promoted to the position of Chinese detective in Wan Chai. Many were dissatisfied with his promotion back then—I won’t go into details."
"Looks like he’s been training in the reservoir these past few years."
Henry found it hard to believe. "What kind of training can you get guarding a reservoir? Swimming, boating, or just goofing off?"
Pi Zhibang slapped his thigh. "Who knows? Maybe he’s been secretly practicing shooting, waiting to make a big splash! It’s not impossible, sir. But since he handled Dadong, we can’t just send him back to the reservoir. As long as he stays in the Major Crimes Unit for even a day, don’t worry—we’ll have a chance to deal with him."
"Your men are watching, so it’s hard to be too obvious, right?"
Henry nodded slowly, took a deep puff of his cigar to ease his frustration, and said, "Alright, you have one month to settle this. I don’t care if he’s been fishing, rowing, or shooting at the reservoir."
"In any case, I don’t want to see him again! For big cases, your team will get the first call."
Pi Zhibang stood at attention, saluted sharply, and stomped his foot with loyal enthusiasm, "Yes, sir!"
Henry waved his hand dismissively. Pi Zhibang took three steps back, then turned and jogged away, bending slightly as he gently closed the door behind him. A smile played at the corner of his mouth as he muttered softly, "Big cases are good, big cases are good."
Without cases, how could Lin Tiansheng rise through the ranks? Without rising, how could he lead them to take down those elite officers?
Just then, as he turned, he suddenly caught sight of Senior Inspector Huang Ye from the Organized Crime and Triad Bureau staring at him expressionlessly, his dead eyes fixed on him.
"Pick, walking silently, playing ghost?" Pi Zhibang glared back fiercely, unwilling to back down.
After arriving by car at Elizabeth Hospital, the finest in West Kowloon, Lin Tiansheng and Zhang Jinrong each carried a fruit basket.
Madron didn’t notice, but Zhang Jinrong deliberately handed the fruit basket brought back to the station to Lin Tiansheng.
Having just finished his hospital meal, Gao Zicong saw the comrades arrive with a joyful expression. Propping himself up, he sat upright and laughed, "Sir Lin, Sir Zhang, Old Ma."
"Just finished a case. Still tidying up the loose ends, right?"
"No need to specially come see me."
Madron complained, "No more loose ends to tidy. Sir Pi handed it over to Chen Sheng’s team."

Gao Zicong was puzzled and disgruntled, "That’s too much, damn it—I’m still lying in the hospital!"
Zhang Jinrong locked the ward door, drew the curtain, then looked back at Gao Zicong’s right leg, freshly operated on, wrapped in gauze and suspended mid-air.
"I’ve got something good for you."
Drinking juice, Gao Zicong’s eyes flickered with curiosity, "What is it?"
Lin Tiansheng handed him the fruit basket, raised an eyebrow, and teased, "Open it and see."
Gao Zicong hesitated, then removed the fruit on top, peeled back a layer of newspaper, revealing five bundles of money wrapped in paper.
"Fifty thousand?"
Gao Zicong tore open the newspaper and saw a thick stack of Hong Kong dollars. Counting quickly, he corrected himself, "One hundred thousand!"
Each bundle contained twenty thousand Hong Kong dollars, all in hundred-dollar bills.
He had never seen so much money in his life.
The junior officers exchanged glances, none expecting the injured Gao Zicong to be the first to lay eyes on the cash. But with this hundred thousand, it was clear everyone would soon be paid.
"Yes."
"This money... was earned off Snake Boss B. The brothers worked hard, so it’s split evenly," Lin Tiansheng didn’t reveal everything and only handed over one hundred thousand—not the full three hundred and fifty thousand—intending to test if Gao Zicong would accept it.
At the time, he didn’t suggest wiping out Gao Zicong’s share for two reasons. First, it was to show the brothers that loyalty comes first, never letting the injured suffer.
Second, hundreds of thousands are easy to come by, but a person’s life is priceless. You can’t buy a cop’s loyalty with just tens of thousands.
Try having triad members buy it, and it wouldn’t come cheap at all.
Third, Gao Zicong’s family wasn’t wealthy, so he was sure the man wouldn’t refuse.
But one must always be cautious. If Gao Zicong pretended to be virtuous and tried to distance himself, ten thousand wouldn’t be enough to spark an internal investigation.
Even if it did get reported, they could all stick to the same story—that it was a gift pooled together for Gao Zicong, with Huang Qixian covering for them. It would barely hold up.
Gao Zicong’s expression flickered as he glanced around at everyone present, immediately understanding everyone had a share. Since it was specially reserved for him, he had no grounds to refuse.
"Thank you, Brother Sheng."
Collecting himself, gratitude shone in Gao Zicong’s eyes.

If his leg was truly ruined, this money would be his lifeline in the next life.
Madron breathed a sigh of relief, picked up a fruit knife, and began peeling an apple, remarking, "If it weren’t for worrying about your leg being broken and you being unable to walk—next life you’d be stuck in a wheelchair."
"You don’t have to risk anything, Big Brother. Since you’re fine, keep the money. Buy property, buy cars—there are plenty of ways to use it."
Gao Zicong understood immediately, "Big Brother, I..."
"No need to say more. We’re brothers, it’s all in the heart."
"Getting you all out of the reservoir was my idea. I’m responsible for smoothing the road for you. Actually, there’s more than a hundred thousand. The rest will be delivered by Ah Rong tomorrow."
"Remember two things," Lin Tiansheng’s tone shifted, and everyone leaned in to listen.
"First, spend cash carefully. Don’t use the bank. In the short term, avoid buying big-ticket items. It’s best to make a trip to Macau and stash the money in underground banks."
"Second, don’t let women spend the money."
Zhang Jinrong pulled out several business cards and handed them to four men. "If you want to deposit money, call these numbers. They’re all trusted contacts."
He Li, young and newly married, took a card and asked, "Why can’t women spend it?"
Zhang Jinrong snapped back bluntly, "Women can’t be trusted."
Lin Tiansheng agreed but knew it was hard to convince hot-headed young men, so he explained, "Women tend to spend lavishly, which can draw unwanted attention."
"If the word gets out and lives are at risk, it’s not worth it."
"Take a few thousand out, buy some clothes or a necklace for them. But the cash should be for yourselves. That’s how women become dependent on you."
"Got it?"
Madron nodded approvingly, "We’ll follow Big Brother’s advice."
The young men found it reasonable, shrugged their shoulders, and all agreed wholeheartedly.
