Chapter Three: Host, Stop Falling for Him! He's the Villain!

In the hospital’s private parking lot, a black Maybach had just come to a stop when the man in the back seat hurriedly pushed open the door without waiting for Assistant Liu to do so.
He was tall and imposing, with sharp, cold features—the primary antagonist of the original series, Chen Ye Qiao.
The adopted son personally raised by the Qiao family patriarch, though officially registered under Mr. and Mrs. Qiao’s name, he was seen as the sole heir by the old man, wielding more power within the family than Qiao senior himself. This made him a thorn in Qiao senior’s side.
No more than ten meters from where he stepped out, a red Ferrari suddenly lost control, speeding recklessly and crashing into the rear of the Maybach behind him. The screeching brakes startled the nearby nurses into exclamations.
From the car stumbled a heavily made-up woman in red, each step she took seemingly choreographed to evoke sympathy.
“Assistant Liu, handle this,” Chen Ye Qiao said without changing his tone, though his eyes grew colder — such clumsy “accidents” were nothing new to him.
“—Yes!” Assistant Liu responded promptly, then approached the nurse.
“No need to bother you. Just give me the VIP elevator card,” he said.
Though puzzled, the nurse handed over the card.
Assistant Liu passed the card to Chen Ye Qiao and quickly moved toward the woman.
He knew full well this was ninety percent likely another setup from President Qiao’s side — an open attempt to manufacture a chance encounter and execute a honey trap. No need to expose the mastermind; dealing with the bait was enough.
Meanwhile, Wen Yan Qing stood downstairs at the inpatient building, fretting over the long line.
The queue for the regular elevator stretched like a dragon. She lost patience after just a couple of minutes and tapped her toes on the floor.
Out of the corner of her eye, she noticed another elevator nearby, marked conspicuously with “VIP” above the door, and no one waiting in front of it.
She immediately skipped over and stood close to the elevator doors, plotting to shamelessly beg the next person who swiped their card to take her along.
Soon, steady footsteps approached, accompanied by a clean, woody scent.
The aroma was fresh and gentle, like vegetation moistened by rain in a forest, instantly catching Wen Yan Qing’s attention.
She instinctively turned her head and, the next moment, her eyes widened as she forgot to breathe.
It was him! Chen Ye Qiao! The only reason she endured watching that entire dreadful series to the end—even when his character turned completely dark later on, his handsome face alone made it impossible to truly hate him—the second male lead! The heroine was practically her dream girl.
In the series, he was the adopted son doted on by the Qiao patriarch but regarded by his adoptive father and the male lead as an obstacle to seizing power, schemed against openly and covertly, eventually falling to his death.
Yet in person, he was even more astonishing than any scene in the show—it felt like meeting the actor face-to-face.
He wore a sharply tailored black suit, broad-shouldered and narrow-waisted, upright like a pine tree. Every line seemed meticulously sculpted, exuding both strength and nobility.
Sunlight fell on his face, highlighting his sharp profile:
A prominent nose bridge, a pair of deep, peach blossom eyes as if hiding a cold pool beneath, the slightly upturned outer corners radiating a detached sharpness.
His striking looks were almost aggressive, yet magnetic, impossible to look away from.
“So handsome…” Wen Yan Qing inadvertently whispered, her gaze glued to him, forgetting even to blink.
Chen Ye Qiao clearly sensed the intense gaze, his brows knitting ever so slightly as he slowly turned to notice the girl beside him.
When his eyes met the obviously infatuated ones staring at him, his frown deepened imperceptibly.
The girl was dressed plainly—a simple pair of jeans and a clean white shirt, unadorned, yet radiating an astonishing beauty.
Not a deliberately crafted beauty, but a natural purity, so striking that it seemed to separate her invisibly from the surroundings, incongruous yet eye-catching.
But the awe quickly shattered under the unabashed fangirl look in the girl’s eyes, tightening Chen Ye Qiao’s frown further.
A chill stirred in his heart as he speculated silently — this girl was probably another bait released by some scheming big boss trying to curry favor, wasn’t she?
“What did you just say?” he asked, his voice emotionless, only faintly scrutinizing.
Wen Yan Qing’s internal system sent frantic warnings:
[Wake up! Stop obsessing! You’re facing the ultimate villain! No matter how handsome he is, you can’t fangirl like this! The women around him never last more than two episodes! If you don’t want to die, get out of the elevator now!]
The system’s roar was like a bucket of cold water, snapping Wen Yan Qing out of her thoughts. The infatuation vanished instantly, replaced by a gentle, compliant smile as she swiftly switched to the carefully prepared “sweet little innocent” mode.
Wen Yan Qing leaned against the elevator door, eyes sparkling as she spoke:
“Hi, handsome, could you please take me? Just to the fifth floor, it won’t take long, I promise!”
She even stretched out her ankle toward him, revealing a faint reddish mark:
“See, I accidentally hurt my foot and can’t climb stairs. I need to deliver soup to my hospitalized grandmother. If I’m late, the soup will get cold. Please~”
She ended with a pleading look.
Chen Ye Qiao’s gaze swept from her reddened ankle to her expectant expression. Hearing words like “grandmother” and “deliver soup,” he relaxed slightly.

He quietly assessed her from head to toe. Holding a thermos, she looked like a college student. Married with a grandmother? She didn’t appear to be coy or flirtatious.
He concluded she probably had no ulterior motive and was overthinking.
With a faint nod, he replied, “Okay.”
Then, hands in pockets, he stepped aside to maintain some distance as they entered the elevator. He pressed the buttons for the fifth floor and the top floor.
The elevator doors slowly closed. Wen Yan Qing blinked, stealing glances at him, her mind racing with excitement:
(Wow, he’s so kind-hearted! Handsome and kind—no wonder he’s my husband! Who knew his side profile up close was even more breathtaking! Isn’t this basically meeting my idol in real life? Too bad he’s gay, sob…)
The system screamed sharply:
“No! He’s the villain, Wen Yan Qing! No matter how handsome, you can’t fangirl! The women around him don’t last two episodes! If you don’t want to die, get off the elevator now!”
At that moment, Chen Ye Qiao was drawn to the heroine’s profile and said, “She looks so young yet already married with a grandmother?”
Chen Ye Qiao had never been in such close proximity to a woman in a confined space. Due to childhood trauma, he was hypersensitive to the opposite sex; today’s visit was for psychological treatment.
Wen Yan Qing knew the story but the series never explained his background fully — only that he avoided women and any woman approaching him was dealt with harshly. He despised female proximity regardless of intent.
Her conclusion was clear: Chen Ye Qiao was gay.
To prevent the system from overthinking, Wen Yan Qing responded quickly:
“Don’t worry, I just like the actor’s face, not the character. I’m just fangirling, not an idiot. Let’s loudly say the word, okay?”
“Gay!!!” the system responded with enthusiasm.
The system then joked, “Host, your brother is gay! Your electronic husband is gay!”
Wen Yan Qing smirked inwardly but turned to meet Chen Ye Qiao’s intense gaze.
At that moment, Chen Ye Qiao admired this female character’s success like a work of art. Standing alone here, she looked like a masterpiece — surely the heroine’s most dedicated creation.
Their eyes met. Both instinctively paused; the elevator’s air seemed to freeze for a few seconds, time slowing.
“Ding dong—”
The elevator’s arrival chime at the fifth floor suddenly snapped them back to reality.
Nervousness made people clumsy. Wen Yan Qing brushed her hair back, Chen Ye Qiao dusted off his sleeve.
Wen Yan Qing grabbed the thermos to step out, but the elevator doors wouldn’t budge.
She pressed the open door button — no response.
Chen Ye Qiao approached and pressed the buttons repeatedly, but the doors remained shut.
“Probably a malfunction,” Chen Ye Qiao said, voice slightly deeper.
“Doesn’t matter. Let’s go to the top floor first. Then you can try going down. If that fails, I’ll give you my card and you can walk down from the sixth.”
No sooner had he finished speaking than the elevator lurched violently and began rapidly ascending!
“It’s rushing to the top! System alert!” Wen Yan Qing’s face turned pale. She quickly set down the thermos and staggered to a corner, curling up and covering her head:
“Lie down! Protect your head! The elevator’s rushing up!”
Chen Ye Qiao watched her movements, glanced at the rapidly flashing floor numbers, and instantly understood — it was no malfunction, but sabotage!
The car crash was just a delaying tactic; this was their real plan. He cursed inwardly for being careless.
Before he could squat and protect his head, the elevator jerked to a sudden stop on the twelfth floor. The impact threw them off the ground and slammed them back down hard!
Wen Yan Qing’s stainless steel thermos bounced up to the ceiling and clanged back down, hitting Chen Ye Qiao squarely on the head.
“—Ugh!”
He grunted, clutching his head as he tried to get up.
Before Wen Yan Qing could react, the elevator began plummeting wildly!
“I can’t die! System, save me!” She closed her eyes in terror, screaming silently.
“Even dying with my idol is not allowed! Please don’t let me die—!!!”
“I was just pretending to be tough earlier (I’d rather die, I want to die), but please don’t let me die.”
Only the system’s fearful screams responded — its cries for help were even louder than hers.
“………”
At that moment, she was even more convinced the system was useless.
“Bang—!”
The elevator violently stalled between the second and third floors, the noise immediately alerting the hospital.

Chen Ye Qiao tumbled heavily into a corner. Wen Yan Qing, clutching her head, collided against him. Luckily, with Chen Ye Qiao as a cushion, she seemed mostly unharmed.
The system, overwhelmed by the weightlessness, began to vomit:
“My abilities end here. I’m out of energy. I’m retreating.”
Its voice was muffled; Wen Yan Qing couldn’t make out what it said.
Shortly after, firefighters’ calls came from outside:
“Don’t be afraid, people inside! The elevator’s emergency brakes activated. We’ll get you out soon!”
Hearing this, Wen Yan Qing slowly relaxed her tense body, though her bones ached as if shattered.
“Wow, the heroine’s body is incredibly tough… surviving a top-speed elevator crash.”
She grimaced and moved, then glanced over, gasping sharply—
Chen Ye Qiao had a gash on his forehead, blood streaming down his cheek, his face pale to a frightening degree.
“I always thought the heroine was the unlucky one, turns out you’re the unluckiest… blah blah,” she muttered.
Outside, metal scraped as the elevator doors pried open a crack. Medical staff and firefighters peered in.
Seeing the condition inside, they quickened rescue efforts. Nearby, the hospital director’s face flushed bright red. He nervously twisted his hands, muttering, “It’s over, it’s over.”
Ignoring her pain, Wen Yan Qing crawled to Chen Ye Qiao’s side to check his pulse — faint, nearly imperceptible, his heartbeat light as if ready to stop.
“Save him first,” she bit her lip and laid him flat. Checking wounds, she found only the head injury bleeding; no other external injuries.
“Bring bandages! I’ll stop the bleeding!” she called out.
A nurse hurriedly threw her bandages and tape. Wen Yan Qing quickly balled them up and pressed them on the wound, wrapping tightly with tape.
She then opened his mouth to check his airway, about to lean over, when Assistant Liu’s urgent shout came from outside:
“Don’t—!”
Before he could finish, seeing no rash appeared on Chen Ye Qiao (clearly no allergies), he swallowed his words, afraid to disturb the girl inside. He watched intensely.
Wen Yan Qing swiftly loosened Chen Ye Qiao’s clothes, placed her hands on his chest, and began chest compressions. After thirty presses, she wiped sweat and silently thought,
“Sorry, even though you’re handsome, this will be your first kiss with me, so it’s not a loss for you. Please don’t let your fans find out and send me hate comments!!!”
She took a deep breath and bent over to give rescue breaths. After three cycles of compressions and breaths, Chen Ye Qiao coughed weakly twice, shaking his head.
“Pulse stable, bleeding stopped,” she reported loudly to the doctors outside.
After all this, Wen Yan Qing sighed with relief, exhausted, and collapsed to the floor.
At that moment, the doors fully opened. Firefighters quickly entered, carefully lifting Chen Ye Qiao out and helping Wen Yan Qing up.
Another firefighter picked up the thermos from the floor and handed it to her. The “chicken soup” inside sloshed evenly, showing no sign of being a dark concoction.
Assistant Liu rushed over, grinning broadly upon seeing Chen Ye Qiao was not allergic.
Wen Yan Qing eyed him, thinking,
“Sure enough, the two happiest things for a worker aren’t winning the lottery but the boss almost dying. Seeing the boss badly injured makes him so happy.”
“Miss, what’s your name? How old are you?” Assistant Liu was overly enthusiastic, holding her hand tightly.
Wen Yan Qing gave him a “you’re weird” look. He realized his mistake and quickly handed over a business card:
“I’ll keep in touch! If you need anything, be sure to call me! Remember to call me!”
He then hurried after the stretcher toward the emergency room, his steps betraying his joy.
Since meeting the young master, he knew the young master had a phobia of contact with the opposite sex, which was life-threatening each time. This was the first time the young master had no allergic reaction upon contact with a woman.
Perhaps this girl could help in his treatment—just the thought pleased him.
Nearby, a doctor approached: “Are you feeling unwell? Come with me to the second floor for a check-up.”
“I’ll deliver this meal to my grandmother first, then come down to find you, okay?” Wen Yan Qing held up the thermos.
The doctor checked her briefly. Seeing no obvious injuries but noticing her unsteady gait, he raised his hand to signal nurses to carry her on a stretcher. This was an incident inside the hospital; if someone died, it would be a big problem.
Wen Yan Qing argued fiercely that she was fine and would get checked after delivering the meal. But no one paid attention.
Seeing her plan collapsing, she grabbed the doctor’s hand and grit her teeth:
“My grandmother is in bed 99, fifth floor, Wang Xiulian. I absolutely must deliver this soup to bed 99, no matter what! If grandmother doesn’t get it, I won’t forgive you even as a ghost.”
The doctor was startled by her determination and quickly signaled a nurse to take the meal upstairs. The hospital staff were deeply moved by her filial devotion and speechless.
Wen Yan Qing watched as the nurse took the food and finally closed her eyes, fainting into sleep…
