Chapter 17: Eighty Thousand with One Punch! (Please keep reading!)
Wang Fei had drunk quite a bit tonight, but he wasn’t drunk. Soon, he realized he had mistaken someone for another. At first glance, the man before him resembled that old Korean man quite closely. But they were definitely not the same person. Upon closer inspection, there were many differences. The biggest distinction was that Jiang Tao had a thick head of black hair, while the old Korean man was bald. Another was that Jiang Tao stood about 1.82 meters tall, whereas the old Korean man was only about 1.75 meters.
“Hey, buddy, do we know each other? You’re staring at me so intently it makes me uncomfortable,” Jiang Tao said, pulling up his pants and stepping back a couple of steps, his face wary as he initiated contact.
“Oh, no, we don’t know each other. Funny enough, you just look a bit like someone I know,” Wang Fei replied, also pulling up his pants. His eyes stayed fixed on Jiang Tao’s face, and the more he looked, the more he felt this face deserved a good punch.
Jiang Tao’s features weren’t the type that would instantly be deemed handsome, but he carried the rebellious aura of a rogue. To put it plainly, he had that charming, bad-boy look. Such a face, combined with some artistic talents, was quite popular with women. Wang Fei’s girlfriend had been taken by a Korean artist, after all.
Feigning displeasure, Jiang Tao said, “Hey, man, I’m a person myself, so what do you mean by ‘a bit like a person’?”
Wang Fei ignored that and asked, “I hear you speak with a native accent, so why did you just speak Korean?”
“No reason. I just said it casually, joking around. See you!” Jiang Tao finished speaking, lifted his leg to step past Wang Fei, and tried to leave.
“Wait!” Wang Fei called out to Jiang Tao’s retreating back.
“Something you want?” Jiang Tao hesitated for two seconds before turning to face Wang Fei. Though his expression remained calm, he was mentally cheering himself on: “Come on, buddy, be direct! Let’s not waste time, just get to the point!”
Looking at Jiang Tao’s face, Wang Fei suddenly said seriously, “Can I punch you?”
“Are you crazy?” Jiang Tao snorted angrily and turned to walk away.
“One punch, I’ll pay you ten thousand yuan!” Wang Fei shouted at Jiang Tao’s back but received no response; Jiang Tao left without looking back.
The system said eighty thousand yuan, but you’re only offering ten thousand? Trying to skim off some commission, huh!
There was no way Wang Fei would fly all the way to South Korea just to vent on the man who stole his girlfriend. That would only make him look worse, like he couldn’t let go.
Yet, just letting it go left him unsettled, his thoughts tangled. At this moment, whether due to the alcohol or something else, he really wanted to punch Jiang Tao just to put this matter to rest.
Of course, he knew he was deceiving himself. But sometimes, people need to fool themselves—to find even a ridiculous, flimsy excuse to reconcile with themselves.
Though Wang Fei had drunk a lot, he still had his wits about him. If he rashly punched Jiang Tao, Jiang Tao could accuse him of provoking trouble. Such a result would severely damage his reputation, especially as he was about to enter the family business.
Recently, a celebrity’s drunken misbehavior caused a huge backlash: fans lost, many appearances canceled, and hefty breach-of-contract penalties to pay, with estimated losses exceeding ten million yuan.
If Wang Fei impulsively beat up Jiang Tao, his losses wouldn’t be less than that celebrity’s.
“Hey, buddy, let me punch you. Name your price!” Wang Fei hurriedly caught up with Jiang Tao and asked again.
This punch had to happen.
“Hey, man, did I offend you so you’d want to hit me? Am I that punchable?” Jiang Tao stopped again, willing to haggle, knowing he held the advantage. The system said eighty thousand yuan at most, probably Wang Fei’s upper limit.
“Twenty thousand,” Wang Fei replied without explanation.
Should he tell Jiang Tao his girlfriend cheated on him? And that this guy looked like the one who did it? Was he not concerned about his pride?
Wang Fei thought simply: Jiang Tao’s clothes weren’t branded, so he must not have much money. He figured he could just throw money at him until he agreed.
Jiang Tao glared angrily and said, “Three thousand. Let me get punched, okay?”
“Forty thousand.”
“Are you nuts?” Jiang Tao turned away again.
“Eighty thousand, final offer! Think it over!”
Wang Fei seemed to lose patience and gave his last price. If Jiang Tao didn’t accept, he wouldn’t push further. He knew this money was a bit humiliating. If it were him, he wouldn’t agree even for 800,000.
To Wang Fei, pride was far more important than money.
Upon hearing the final offer, Jiang Tao paused again. He knew this was probably the other’s bottom line. If he dragged it out, the money would slip away for good. The intelligence system valued this intel at eighty thousand; there must be a reason for that.
Greed often leads to overreach.
In just a moment, earning eighty thousand was enough to satisfy him.
Jiang Tao turned to Wang Fei and seriously confirmed, “You’re serious about this?”
“Yes, I’m serious. If you don’t believe me, I can transfer the money first.”
Wang Fei’s expression was calm. Eighty thousand yuan was just a few days of his pocket money. Buying peace of mind for that price was a good deal.
“Don’t slap my face—I make a living with it,” Jiang Tao agreed quickly, without any embarrassment, as if he’d never refused Wang Fei before. Earning money isn’t shameful.
“Fine! I won’t slap your face!” Wang Fei laughed at Jiang Tao’s remark and suddenly found this rustic man somewhat amusing. He himself thought slapping someone’s face was too humiliating. This man only resembled the Korean who cheated on him, not the actual person. Letting off some steam and gaining clarity was enough; no need for humiliation.
“Let’s settle the payment first.”
“Sure!”
Wang Fei cheerfully transferred eighty thousand yuan to Jiang Tao’s online account.
“Now, can I punch you?”
“Go ahead, but again, no slapping my face.”
“Got it!”
Wang Fei shouted and with a loud thud, punched Jiang Tao on the left side of his chest.
After the punch, Jiang Tao barely reacted. In contrast, Wang Fei clutched his hand, wincing in pain.
“Is that all?” Jiang Tao twitched his eye, feeling this eighty thousand yuan humiliation fee was earned way too easily. Wang Fei’s strength wasn’t even as much as his girlfriend Xu Li’s!
He almost wanted to give Wang Fei two free punches.
