Chapter 85: What Haven’t I Seen in This World?
After Zhou Shu’s repeated journeys and today’s press conference, his grandfather finally understood what was going on with him.
“Xiaoshu, have you become a Demon Queller?”
Faced with his grandfather’s question, Zhou Shu didn’t hide anything; he nodded in admission.
“Yes, Grandpa.”
Seeing Zhou Shu admit it, his grandfather hadn’t spoken yet, but his grandmother gasped in surprise and immediately began to worry about his safety.
They had watched the press conference as well. Demon Quellers fought monsters head-on; while many monsters had been slain, there were plenty of scenes showing Demon Quellers injured, too.
The reason they didn’t broadcast images of Demon Quellers walking away unscathed was to make people understand that safety was hard-won, to foster respect for those fighting on the front lines, and to encourage people to revere the “non-human” Demon Quellers.
Others might feel respect, but for family, seeing these images was enough to frighten them out of their wits.
Zhou Shu hurried to reassure his grandmother, choosing his words carefully: “Grandma, I’m a long-range sniper. My combat position is hundreds, sometimes even over a thousand meters away from the battlefield. There are soldiers protecting me, too. You saw that this time I came back with four soldiers as my escort. It’s very safe; you don’t need to worry.”
It took considerable explanation before his grandmother was finally put at ease.
But then she said something that left him stunned.
“I’m still not entirely reassured. Why don’t you take Huahua with you? Back in our village, whenever we had trouble with yellow weasels, wolves, or wild boars, it was always Huahua who drove them off. She’s a very powerful Cat Immortal.”
Cat Immortal?
What kind of term was that?
The key thing was, Huahua seemed to understand and nodded approvingly at his grandmother’s words.
Wait a minute—did that mean… his grandparents knew what Huahua really was?
He asked them about it directly and received a definite answer.
They simply followed the principle of “don’t flaunt your wealth.” They hadn’t told anyone outside the family; only the four of them knew.
Well, now with Zhou Shu, it made five.
They’d thought Zhou Shu already knew, but he hadn’t.
Zhou Shu: “…”
Fine, Zhou Shu no longer knew what to say. In the end, the joke was on him.
And judging from the way his grandparents spoke, whether something was a demon or an immortal depended entirely on how that “creature” treated humans.
As for that so-called “Ascension Society,” just from the name they’d given themselves, you could tell they weren’t anything good.
In the end, Zhou Shu only took the little orange cat, Number 47, with him when he left; Huahua stayed home to guard the house.
He told his grandparents that this mission wasn’t a solo operation but a coordinated assault, with many powerful Demon Quellers participating. His role was still to provide long-range support from several hundred meters away.

“All right,” Zhou Shu’s grandfather made the final decision. “We’re not going to stop you from being a Demon Queller. Protecting the country is an honorable calling. Now that you have military merit and a noble title, you should set an example.”
“We just want you to take care of yourself while you’re protecting others. Remember, your grandparents are still at home waiting for you,” his grandmother added.
“And your father and mother aren’t exactly easy to keep track of either—they’ve gone cave exploring with the scientific team, and we haven’t heard a word from them…”
Listening to his grandparents’ gentle admonishments, Zhou Shu felt a deep sense of calm. Huahua squatted nearby, while he stroked the little cat, Number 47, whom he was about to take with him.
When his grandparents were done, Zhou Shu boarded the car and set off again.
This time he decided that, if for nothing else, just for the sake of his grandparents’ peaceful lives, he had to eradicate the monster organizations in the country, starting with the largest one—the Ascension Society.
Instead of returning to the Demon Suppression Bureau, he went straight to a high-rise next to Alpha Corporation, where he had Number 47 sniff out the scents on the rooftop and accurately identified Bai Huayue’s scent.
“Meow~”
Little Hunt translated: [The scents on the rooftop are pretty mixed up, but three stand out: one is the target, one is you, and the last one I don’t recognize.]
Reading this, Zhou Shu realized the unknown scent must belong to the person he’d shot in the head.
They’d said in the early morning meeting that this person was a Bronze-level leader of the Evolution Organization. Maybe he could have Number 47 sniff out that person’s lair, wipe them out in one go, and even take the fight all the way to the Evolution Organization, eradicating evil monsters from the earth.
Of course, creatures like Huahua and Number 47 could stay—they could coexist peacefully with humans.
Because they didn’t eat people.
He also needed to improve his own strength, as well as the technological level of humanity as a whole; otherwise, they might really be unable to deal with those monsters.
If monsters managed to blend into human society and humans couldn’t bring themselves to take drastic measures, it would be an unsolvable problem.
So there were only two paths: one, ruthlessly eliminate the monsters with the least possible cost; two, make everyone a “superhuman,” so that monsters would be no more than ordinary beasts.
With that decided, he got back in the car and returned to the Demon Suppression Bureau.
To carry out his plans, he needed the Bureau’s cooperation. Now that he was part of the organization, there was no need to charge ahead recklessly on his own.
His grandparents were right.
That day, the Demon Suppression Bureau had ample rest. Most personnel were in the office. Zhou Shu returned and found a group of reporters had arrived.
Well then, were they planning to turn him into a celebrity idol?
He put that aside for now and went to see the Director, reporting that Number 47 could track Bai Huayue and Fast-Mairen by their scent markers.
“This cat…” The Director looked at Number 47. “This isn’t Huahua, is it? The size seems a bit off.”
“No, this one’s called Number 47. She’s Huahua’s offspring and has a natural talent for scent tracking,” Zhou Shu explained, placing Number 47 on the table.
Number 47 wasn’t the least bit shy; she crouched elegantly on the table and nodded politely at the Director.

The Director was genial and nodded back at Number 47.
As the head of the Demon Suppression Bureau, he was a man of wide experience. He’d seen many Beast Whisperers and mutant beasts, so Number 47’s behavior was merely within expectations.
But the name was a bit odd.
Beast Whisperers tended to have close bonds with their animal partners, so the names they chose were usually mighty or endearing. He’d never encountered anyone who used numbers as names.
So he asked, “Such a cute little cat—why the number? Is there a special meaning behind it?”
“No special meaning, it’s just for keeping track,” Zhou Shu replied a bit awkwardly. “There are too many of them—without numbers, I can’t remember them all.”
“Oh, you can’t… remember…” The Director’s words trailed off, and he stared at Zhou Shu in shock.
“So Number 47 means there are another forty-six ‘superpowered cats’ like her?!”
“Yes.”
The Director: “…”
He had seen a lot in his time, but this—this was something new. From the conversation, it was clear Zhou Shu could communicate with Huahua, which was already a Beast Whisperer’s skill, and Huahua truly obeyed him.
Wang Kailun had reported that when they collected samples, it was Zhou Shu who’d calmed Huahua.
And if Number 47 was Huahua’s offspring, the other forty-six must be similar.
So the relationship was: Zhou Shu managed Huahua, Huahua managed forty-seven super cats…
This was truly unprecedented!
“By the way,” Zhou Shu suddenly remembered something. “According to Huahua, Number 11 is in Dongyuan City and might have produced some super cats as well. We could search for them; it might help with our tracking efforts.”
The Director was completely lost for words.
Wang Kailun had told him that the technical department’s career plan for Zhou Shu was the “Hunter Route,” meaning Zhou Shu would be a sharpshooter, with Huahua as an excellent helper for luring or defending against monsters.
But now it seemed Zhou Shu’s career was not “Hunter Route” at all—he could bulldoze his way through anything!
