Before publishing the book, my heart was restless with anxiety.

After years spent writing short stories, this is the first novel I’ve penned since returning to my beginnings.

I worried I might not write it well—something I’d never experienced before.

I used to believe myself a genius...

Our chief operating officer, who drifts through Melbourne, told me: “You have to believe in yourself; all you must do is be yourself.”

I think she’s right. I may have an attractive face, but it’s my talent that conquers the world.

Though, I have yet to truly succeed.

Once the book was released, its performance soared, and the feedback from friends was encouraging enough to ease my mind just a little.

Counting from the first short “tofu cubes” I published in middle school, it’s been nearly twenty years.

I never imagined I could persist at something for so long—my hemorrhoids never lasted this long.

I am a lazy, conflicted, narcissistic Libra in the terminal stage of procrastination, yet when it comes to writing, I am bold, resolute, unwavering, and utterly committed.

Perhaps poverty is the real driving force.

The old friends who love me have always been there. When my work was short, they cherished the brevity; when it grew longer, they adapted to its length.

Smooth and seamless, like silk.

Back then, 2Yun, who wore a white shirt and sang “The Lasso Song” for everyone during her school days, has recently given birth to twins—a truly joyous occasion.

And to our new friends, welcome to the whimsical world woven by Old Willow.

I fervently hope you will come to like me, and cherish every character I’ve created.

If you find it hard to like them, perhaps you might force yourself just a bit?

Who lives life as flawlessly as New Year’s wishes promise?

We cannot decide the length of our lives, but we can determine the length, breadth, depth, and scope of a book...
